Needs to be more of these through san Fransisco for the younger generation
Such a great museum. I love the cable car.
I lived in SF from 2003 to 2009 and Walking or bicycling up hill was such a nuisance. I had my monthly bus pass which let me ride those cars all the time. I loved them.
I love the cable cars 😊
My dad drives these
Would sf cable car be upgraded to an autonomous electric cable-rail-guided car with human driver/conductor/pilot/supervisor? e-cable car? It seems more economical without the steel cable?
The reason why the car NEEDS the cable is to help pull the cars up and down the hills. They wheels are made of steel, and the tracks are made of steel, therefore there's little to no friction. That means if a cable car tried to go up one of the steep hills WIHOUT a cable, there wouldn't be enough static friction to keep the car going forward, gravity would pull it down the hill with disastrous consequences.
They have the same thing in Istanbul & still working
Costing taxpayer alot to maintain them😢 also those 1800s overhead electric bus technology
Thanks @plantsplantz2116 for the negative comment on an interesting and positive story. I bet you’re a joy to be around.
I am. Honestly, keepin it real...we dont evn have a balanced budget and commercial estate are loosing value.
That’s the least of your worries. That budget is nothing compared to where our tax money is claimed to be going to and nothing to show for.
wait to you learn about how much we waste on roads and highways
It's funny cause the city government is spending taxes on other things that aren't public transit. If only taxes were used to maintain these cable cars.
