The video clearly states that the kata are performed by the the lineage of Gichin Funakoshi, founder of the the style called Shotokan (school of Funakoshi). So yes, some of the kata, like this one, is going to look and be performed quite differently. No two schools of Gojuryu, unless they are performing WKF standard kata, are going to perform kata exactly the same. Jundokan vs Meibukan for instance. Do you watch Gangaku kata and complain it doesn't look like Chinto? Or Hyakuhachiho and scream it isn't done like a Gojuryu Suparinpei? Why doesn't this Tensho resemble Kyokushin Tensho? Have you ever seen Tetsuhiro Hokama perform his version of Suparinpei? You can't even call it Gojuryu. ua-cam.com/video/SkSTwKqc-ZI/v-deo.html Karate is and has always been fluid. Gojuryu looks nothing like the Gung Fu that Higaonna brought back form China nor does it look like the Gojuryu that Chojun Miyagi taught his students. Shotokan looks nothing like the Shorin (Shaolin) that Funakoshi brought to Japan.
@@Tanuki-Ha Shorin is the Okinawan pronunciation of Shaolin. Shōrin-ryū (少林流) is one of the major modern Okinawan martial arts and is one of the oldest styles of karate. ... @@sanseiryu alright I see. You mean from Okinawa to Japan. Since Okinawa was also Japan at that time, I thought you meant from China to Japan. Thanks for the answer and sorry for the misunderstanding.
Excuse me but that's hogwash because Tensho = Rotating Palms , and if someone's modified it so the circular rotating movements of the palm is gone, it's no longer Tensho. Then the practice of those movements become pointless.
Shotokan de Mestre Funakoshi , não esta ligado apenas a JKA e SKIF, existem outras escolas com costumes e katas diferentes exemplo Mestre Iwamoto Keio e Mestre Makoto gima (gima-ha Shoto-ryu)
Its really not that different from what I learned in Goju ryu, maybe stylistically different with the breathing being quieter and the movements sharper to show their application but mostly the same
All other kata videos of this particular dojo are great and the katas are well executed, but this Tensho in my humble opinion is missing completely the principles of the kata. This is not Goju Ryu.
DEVE SER UCHI RYU ..... É UM KATA QUE PODEMOS VER EM ALGUMAS LINHAGENS DO GOJU RYU.. COMO O IOGKF POR EXEMPLO. DO MESTRE MORIO HIGAONNA OU NO IKGA DO MESTRE GOGEN YAMAGUCHI, QUE POR SUA VEZ FORAM DISCIPULOS DO MESTRE Chojun Miyagi
As much as this is slightly different from what we practice in Goju Ryu, It's very disrespectful of you to post such a comment. It's comments like this that divide karate further apart. Please, next time, give your thoughts consideration before you post. Arigato.
It is a Shotokan style school. The stance he is using is Shotokan version of sanchin stance which they call hangetsu or half moon. In Shotokan their version of Seisan is called Hangetsu and they use this stance.

Funakoshi didn't bring Shori (Shaolin) to Japan.

Nice version of Tensho kata
Shotokan Tensho!
かっこいいですね
Great performance
whatever techniques you put into your Tensho doesn´t matter at all, what matters is that it doesn´t turn out like dead arm patterns like here
That's very diferent than Tensho Kata from Goju Ryu.
Its really not that different from what I learned in Goju ryu, maybe stylistically different with the breathing being quieter and the movements sharper to show their application but mostly the same
Looks like a shitoryu shukokai version I saw.
Where does the Keio shotokan Tensho version come from? Which is its origin, I mean?
Shotokan tensho kata.....!!!?
yes
I am 96 years old
Sleeping...

It probably got there by a visitor of another school in the first place.
.He's doing it the shitoryu style not the gojuryu way.
I don't reckon
Please back the Black Belt!

Probably is another karate style, it’s never ever Tensho kata, He could better his sanchin dachi base!
And you could better your respect for an over 70 or 80 yo Karateka.
Apparently you didn't learn a lot from practicing Karate.
As much as this is slightly different from what we practice in Goju Ryu,
