I hope Dark Link returns in Breath of the Wild 2. Instead of a suit, he creepily stalks you in an area, say the Lost Woods and has to be fought multiple times as your strength and abilities increase.
If the first game was inspired by Zelda 1, the sequel oughta be inspired by Zelda 2.
I’d love for him to be like Warframes Stalker. As in, he pops up at certain points in the game when you least expect it(say after you just beat a boss and Are exhausted in items and such)
What would be interesting is if Link loses a lot of his strength at the beginning of the game, but just before that Dark Link forms...meaning that he hasn't lost his. So he's basically impossible to beat until you get stronger, kinda like the SA-X from Metroid Fusion
@@SgtSega Or he's literally just made of Link's stolen power, but with Malice fueling and controlling it all?
In my opinion, BoTW 2 is almost the perfect setting for another Dark Link battle.
You lose Zelda and the Master sword supposedly in the beginning of the game, along with everything else you worked so hard for. Hyrule is put back into tragedy after just starting to regain what it once was. All the good you've done has been wiped clean in a matter of minutes.
Who wouldn't be even a slight bit mad?
Oh no I loved every second of that gauntlet. Now, I don't normally enjoy masochistic challenges, but Trial of the Sword was like a big action puzzle.
The problem with this idea is that Link is no longer required by duty to not show emotion. Now, he can vent those stresses in every fight, or by commiting arson with a fire rod.
It would be even better if the Dark Link looks like Botw Link. It would just be pretty cool design wise.
Something to note is that the setting of the Dark Link fight is nearly identical to the world where we fight Demise. The floor is water, a duel to the death between total opposites. Both are pretty similar to one another.
Could Dark Link be Demise's chosen hero, or more accurately chosen villain 🤔?
@@AmericanCatlover2.0 I wouldn't say Dark Link was chosen by Demise. I do believe however that the setting and Dark Link could be based on whatever's left of Demise in the Master Sword(assuming there's anything left of him at this point). We know that the room itself is an illusion that which created a being based on the Darkness in Link, so what if it also took the Darkness inside the Master Sword?
I know that's a bit far fetched, but it could've been where the setting was derived from: the scene of the Demon King's last battle.
@@elitegamer9310 It is possible Dark Link is merely a manifestation of the curse Demise placed upon Link's soul of the hero.
You know you've made a good fight when some people keep a save file before this fight just to fight dark Link on a whim.
The true horror with dark link is how much he is real we all sorta have a dark link inside us since everybody has negative emotions
I mean, if we go to the Atlas route, then yeah. Our dark selves is our true selves. Though, i would love to see their take on Dark Link.
Wanna know what I think? I think they should develop Dark Link into an actual character with his own motivation. He has so much potential but he's regulated to a dumb mini boss fight. He's Links dark side, his inner emotions of anger, hate etc. He can be a fantastic antagonist if you write him properly.
Personally I'd have him mess with Link, mentally. Try to convince Link that people are just using him and he's nothing but a "pawn" to everyone around him. Make him question his beliefs and say the things Link himself wouldn't say (Link is a blank slate in the games that's why I say this).
We know Dark Link shows up in various timelines so he probably is very knowledgeable. Have him tell Link the truth like. "No matter how many times you save your precious little home, it will NEVER be free." Or something along those lines. Feed doubts to Link by telling him about the whole reincarnation thing. Like, it's always constant war and suffering the Goddesses you blindly worship just sit by and watch you all suffer like it's some sick game.
I could honestly go on but y'all get the point. Dark Link could be soooooo much more.
Yep, just like with Dark Samus in Metroid Prime 2 Echoes and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption
I've had this idea for a fan-story in my head for a long time where Dark Link is not only pissed at Link, but more specifically...the Goddesses, as he was originally a creation of the Triforce of Courage to test Link, right? So he's basically pissed that he never gets to be his own person, merely a mirror for the chosen hero.
Then he seemingly gets used by Ganondorf later on and suffers another humiliating defeat.
All I can see is a Dark Link 'hyaah'ing randomly in the background as you explore BOTW2, since getting a VA for Dark Link would basically give us a VA for link, and we don't want that.
@@camburger8263 I mean...Link already has a VA, he just doesn't have actual words in his dialogue.
Except that one time in Wind Waker.
You don't have to have Link talk just because Dark Link talks.
I wished Dark link wasn't just a suit in botw and that you could actually fight it somewhere with an enigma, the gameplay system would of been so interesting, but who knows, he might come back when we except it the less..
I would’ve appreciated if thyphlo ruins were a dungeon and dark link would be the boss fight.
I remember being SO hyped during *THAT* cutscene Twilight Princess, but then so bummed when Dark Link never made an appearance as an enemy.
I know he's ultimately just a frustrating mirror match (Unless you cheese him with Biggoron Sword), but I always loved him as a concept and wanted to see him come back as a more substantial enemy with a bigger backstory than "Test from the Triforce of Courage" or "Random Ganondorf minion in a temple".
shadow characters are honestly fascinating, but, in my experience, underutilized. think about it, this is your literal shadow come to life. not the shadow as we usually know it, but often the phycological shadow. all the darkness, all the impulses, everything that we've held in for our entire lives, every thing about ourselves that we reject, all rushing out into a dangerous antagonist, that forces us to face it. an opponent that arguably, knows us better than we know ourselves.
im actually toying with the idea of a more complex shadow in my own writings, one that becomes a character in its own right, partially, just because i want to see this idea pushed to its limits. x3 not sure if i can or not, but hey, got to try right? lol
Hey I mean this genuinely, but check out Infinity train if you want something kinda similar explored, definitely not a perfect one on one, but I think you'd really like it
In the second season, the main character is a reflection of the main character of the first season but is completely different and tries to escape being just a reflection!
@@Snow-sx5ev I've heard good things about infinity train, I'll have to check it out sometime. :3 thanks.
its been a while since i ran across a really good one, but a rather recent one is from that Celeste game, still need to finish that one, but from what I've seen she's really well done. x3 even hits some of the notes i mentioned above, and even the more interesting note of, what happens when you come to terms with that shadow. its really cool and rather cathartic if you are dealing with a struggle. but careful, that game doesn't go easy on ya XD
I still think dark link should've been the main boss of the temple instead of the miniboss
Mido also seemed to blame Link for the death of the Deku Tree as Link is leaving after defeating Ghoma. Being the quasi-“leader” of the Kokiri after the Deku Tree’s death (also the only one left guarding the Sacred Grove in the future that we see initially), he may have also influenced those Link grew up with into believing he was responsible for his death. I always thought that was part of why Link fled from his home in the way he did, since it seemed weird to me that he sort of abruptly runs from Saria after receiving the fairy ocarina. I dunno, could just be because he couldn’t handle his feelings in that moment either, losing his “father” and needing to leave home for good. Great video, happy Halloween! 🎃
The worst thing is that Link can never go back to forest even though Ganon is stopped in the new timeline because Navi leaves, he no longer has the deku's protection so he would become a skullkid and the kokiri still think he killed their dad and it'll be awhile until the deku seed sprouts.
I even thought link kinda killled the deku tree when i was like 8yr old even though i saw my friend beat the spider because mido talked that trash. Cuz kids are impressionable
What's the opposite of Courage? Fear. Link must conquer Fear by conquering himself. It's his proof of Courage. His test to prove himself worthy of the Triforce. That's my take on it anyway.
I do agree with this take, however, I would say the opposite of Courage is Cowardice. One who does have the Triforce of Courage can still feel or experience fear, but, it's more about conquering fear, and facing those fears head on if that makes any sense. xD
BotW Link is well known for being fearless til the end, I’d like to see Dark Link be the one thing that strikes fear in him
The legend of Zelda greatness
To defeat one's own dark self requires meditative focus, deftness of hand, and the willingness to glimpse the black corners of one's own soul and purge it of all fear and despair...
...or you can also just use a really big hammer.
I mean when you pile up all that stress which resulted in darkness its no surprise of what happens to the hero of time based on peoples theories. And it's no surprise that Link went in search for Navi who's probably the only one who could comfort him, she shares their memories after returning to the past too . She was Link's last friend despite Link being able to meet Zelda again and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the same emotional connection but it had some relief none the less because he made a familiar friend. Unlike botw, there's no real feel of romance between Link and Zelda in Ocarina, it's more like Link is just trying to save Hyrule aka being noble and doing is duty as everyone asked of him, he really was alone he just never trained for it. He only picked up a sword. Again, when you think about it he was no trained warrior, that doesn't mean he didn't want to save his friend zelda or lacked the strength or courage to do it, its just that Link forever wondered about his purpose before leaving the village and finally found it helping those in need, it was lonely at the start of Ocarina and at the end of Majora's Mask for him idk if Nintendo noticed that when making these games but thats quite the dark plot. Nintendo can make another title after Majora if they wanted
I wish they had saved dark link for the shadow temple. Facing in the darkness even the one in himself would have been great thematicly.
@@kaihedgie1747
Dude, did you really write that sentence without even noticing that you needed the word SHADOW to write that nonsense?!
Here lies hyrules bloody history of greed and hatred
Given that all the dead in the temple is the result of the hyrulian civil war that was not only still going when link was born. It was also most likely the reason for the genocide of the sheikah.
So the reason for all the dead is the dark past and the mistakes that were made.
The death even a so seemingly kind and pure nation like Hyrule can cause when things like greed and hatred (or in other words the darkness within people with power) are not kept in check.
Link also is a person with power and if he gives into greed hatred and darkness without facing all the demons of his past this video pointed out so greatly, how much death, pain and suffering do you think he could cause?!
So yes, dark link would have been perfect in the shadow temple and its theme even if you really want to boil it down to a small minded and short sighted word like death.
So next time please try to think if your statement even makes sense before you try to tell someone he is wrong and embarres yourself with such a short and not thought out statement only to prove you know something.
@@btothekfromg5973 Yes I did and it was pretty unnecessary to write a whole essay towards a single short statement
I said that because that's literally what it is. Sheik even describes it as "a house of the dead". It's located in the *Graveyard* in Kakariko Village. The inside of the temple is filled with torture and execution constructs and devices and there are even splatters of blood on the wall in some rooms, not to mention chambers filled with bones of the deceased and Stalfos litter the place. Moreso than any other temple in the game
Yes, Link is a person with power, but he's also Hylian's chosen hero. He earned that power through his _courage_ . Even in his youth he's showed nothing but unflinching courage, even going so far as to brandish his arms against Ganondorf in their first encounter, something even he considered admirable. Link has shown time and time again he's incorruptible in spite of wielding that power and that's why he's the hero people depend on.
Dark Link as he appears in Ocarina of Time does not represent some sort of hidden aspect of his psyche. He's just yet another monster infesting the Water Temple and uses Link's reflection to assume a physical form. That's it. And while yes he does appear in Kakariko Village in the manga, he's just treated as a physical challenge Link has to overcome and it's entirely about his skill. That's it. He doesn't make him question his motives or his mission, he's just a shadow monster who kicks him around for a bit until Impa tells him to get his head together.
@@kaihedgie1747
So now I think I get what the problem is...
You are not okay with the thought or theory that dark link represents more than just another enemy.
In this case I apologise for my harsch wording.
But as you see, a longer statement is much more clear.
Everything what you wrote about the temple is true and I don't deny a Single point of that. However, it doesn't contridict what I wrote about it. Both of our statements are correct.
That's why I still don't get why my opinion that dark link (even without the symbolism surrounding this mini boss) fits better into the shadow temple feels so wrong to you.
I never read the manga so I didn't even know dark link was put there.
Quite honest, I after hearing how the manga to Majoras Mask butchered the origin of Majora and the fierce deity I would never suggest something because a manga said so... So this is not why I think he should have been put there.
To your point of Link being the chosen one and therefor flawless (I know, that was not how you wrote it)
Being couragous and skilled doesn't mean someone has to be good.
If you want to see Link as that shining beacon that's cool really.
For many other people (me included) is that a little too simple and even Twilight Princess proved our Link here can be sad and remorsefull, that's why his soul couldn't rest and even as a hero chosen by the godesses he was just mortal who did things he regret and that's why the hero's shade was still around centuries later.
I don't want to convince you that you might have a wrong picture of link.
I just want to show you that this and other games in the series also make room for a more vulberable and flawed Link to see for others.
Neither of us is right or wrong. That's the beauty of this franchise. It can be interpreted from so many different angles.
Sorry again for being rude before. Short statements just tend to feel as not much thought was put into them.
Especially when the statement seemed to prove a mistake without proving a mistake.
So thank you for taking the time to Set things straight.
@@btothekfromg5973 It's fine. And yes Dark Link was in the manga, taking Bongo Bongo's place. He also could form a Dark Epona from his body
I wouldn't say butchered since the game doesn't divulge on its origin. It's just a weird mask the Happy Mask Salesman stumbled unto then got robbed of
While it does seem obvious to put Dark Link in a place called Shadow Temple, the shadow part of it has more to do with the Sheikah, the ninja clan that serves the Royal Family from the *shadows* . It's also why Impa is the Shadow Sage as both she and her clan come from Kakariko Village
The Hero's Shade's regret has nothing to do with what he supposedly did but what he _couldn't_ do; pass on his sword arts to someone else. With Ganondorf out of the way up until TP, there just wasn't anything left for Link to do in an era of peace
if link ever goes to hell for some reason it wont be walls of flames everywhere it will be waterfalls and shadow links
We _are_ our own worst enemies after all
This was my favourite fight in OoT, next to the finale. I look forward to it every time I play it!
1:36, I wish there was more character revealed from Saria. A game, a movie, a return to the plot line.
I want a game with Dark Link as the main villain.
After I got phantom Ganons armor and majaoras mask I got an amazing idea for a Zelda villain. Maybe the link that lost to ganondorf in that the timeline he gets defeated isn't killed, but enslaved by ganondorf after he's defeated somehow making his way to the timeline in breath of the wild and being the "side" villain that you fight thoughout the game before fighting Ganon, maybe not breath of the wild but a game where Ganon and majora team up and use link to fight fire with fire against the new link
wow, super high quality video! Reseached and detailed, all makes sense... good job.
Hopefully we'll fight him next game, a lot has happened to Link, and when peace finally happened, it's ripped away once more.
It's your Dark alter ego that knows more about you than you know of yourself
This video was awesome! Imagine this: what if the hero’s shade was a resurfaced Dark Link that Link somehow faced, conquered, and tamed sometime in the years after his adventures in Termina? If that were to have happened though what really became of the real Link?
I want to see a dark Zelda. All evil and corrupted. The bride of Gannon? Would be a cool twist.
Dark link is OG
Honestly I think dark link is all that stress and pent up anger within link or the darkness within which is explained here perfectly
There's also my theory that dark link gets darker and gains his own moves in ocarina of time because he's separated from us and therefore can learn and become his own entity. Who knows how skilled he'd become had we not defeated him after he seemingly gained consciousness.
Edit: also does it say he is made by ganon in ocarina of time. Because the room seems designed as a trial and I doubt ganon designed it. Maybe anyone who enters has to face themselves to progress?
Friend - *Enters dark Link room*
Me - Conquer yourself
Friend - What?
Me - Looking down is looking up, what you see below you is what is above, only it's a reflection.
Friend - I don't get it
Me - Just go forward and remember the first thing I said
5:53 is that how it works. The number of Heart containers you have sets how many hits he takes. Good to know, I would have never noticed that
To whoever had the idea of having dark link blend in the tree shadow like that was absolutely brilliant!
“Goron’s weapons are an obvious solution to this fight”
Oh screw you
Slight detail at 9:01 : Between the child and adult timelines, the hero of time has always gone into the water temple, because there is only one Link to spawn both timelines. The child Link that warns Zelda and moves on to live the events of Majora's Mask is the same person who went through all the temples and defeated Ganon.
I hope one day Dark link will become an actual person instead of a dark version of Link
It would be nice to see a form of Dark Link in BOTW2
This was one of the best videos in a while I thourally enjoyed this. Dark link and this particular fight is one of the best in the series. I hope they incorporate this in botw2.
3:57, there is a timeline, Link goes to the temple of time and gives Ruto the sapphire.
I would love to see Dark Wolf Link I like Wolf Link and we need more dark versions of our favorite Videogame Characters like Dark Shadow Dark Sonic Dark Silver Dark Tails Dark Amy Dark Knuckles and Dark Cream Dark Spyro Reignited Trilogy Dark Spyro Version and Dark Rayman in their Videogame Series.
I really hope Nintendo listens to fans about this 1 thing, because it would be a great fanservice to have a real dark link fight again in a main zelda game, and for it to be programmed well and challenging. Just like the OOT fight.. make it match everything your character has, make it force you to improve at the game and beat yourself. Great video.
Not that I'd be upset if he's not in botw2 but Dark link is due a come back in my opinion.
I agree, especially after making the OoT Dark Link set available through a side quest instead of Amiibo in Breath of the Wild.
@@commonwealthrealm With the underwhelming ability of night speed. Given, that set mirrored OoT Dark Link.
So maybe we'll get a true BotW Dark Link in the sequel. Possibly related to all the mystery shits going on.
I was saddened when the video ended because the music playing was too beautiful to ignore
So does that mean that there can be a Dark Peter Pan?
And could there also be a Dark Goku in Dragon Ball?
Dark Link yeah, but not my boy Ravio, hell no.
4:54 Thank for using my work in your video 👍
Yet another cool video on LoZ!
I wish Dark Link was more then just a mini boss.
A actual character who can speak words.
just as villains fear karma, heroes fear their dark side. all who gain power are afraid to lose it. specifically, control over their ability to defend themselves from enemies. that very power may cause us to destroy ourselves.
I saw this on my thumbnail of my subscriptions and thought well what the heck I guess I could take a risk watching this at 11% of my battery on my phone
I like to think Link is too much of a simpleton to be influenced by his dark self...
Dark Link: Hahaha! I am your true self! Every negative emotion you ever had made manifest! You will never get rid of m-
Link: (Sword go swoosh)
Dark Link: (Dies and comes back) ... I said, you will NEVER get rid of me!
Link: (Sword go swoosh)
Dark Link: (Dies and comes back) ... This guy doesn't listen does he...?
Happy Halloween!
Wouldn't it be neat if Dark Link was the main bad guy or at least plays a bigger role in a future zelda game. It likely won't happen but its an idea.
“don’t forget your failure in the cave”
It would be interesting to see Link fight a shadow/doppelganger version of Zelda.
You should do a video on the differences between Dark Link and Shadow Link.
And being the water temple also gave the player a lot of hatred for said damn dungeon!!
Dark Link makes think he is Link's heartless
I like to think of Dark Link in Ocarina of Time as some sort of time-wraith.
Fascinating
Smart. I clicked this because it had ten days ago. If I am in a less then a week mood a pass things displaying one week ago, or more.
So basically fighting dark link in the water temple is fighting all of the anger and pain the temple causes to you as a player
I have a theory on this aswell. If you look back all the way to the first game, you know that there are always 3 "Tri" forces. When all three are together there is a fourth. The upside down hollow in the center.
Non of the Goddesses have a notable responsibility for the dead or afterlife. Maybe a Dark Force, or a contingency plan for a "Perfect Wish" gone wrong.
I think that Dark Link is a form of Link that gave up his life to save Hyrule and Ganon made him Dark Link, or taken over by Dark Force. Maybe even sent into the Twilight Realm after losing to Ganon in Twilight Princess.
Also notice that Dark Link is always seen in Ocarina of Time tunic, even in Twilight. And they show 3 of them together in a cut scene. Also he would have some time travel function due to the master sword.
Not to ramble more... but another TP reference is that Shade could be Dark Link being punished for what he did across time. Dark Link is a far more trained swordsman than our Hero.
I'm paraphrasing here, but:
"Hard to imagine a guy like you having a dark side."
"Well let's just say you haven't seen it yet."
Imagine if Ocarina wasn't linear (this part kind of ties into the theory) and the Dark Link fight gave him all your abilities and items (my personal desire).
with totk out i hope they made a dlc involving fighting dark link
He's so scary sinc ehe's the negative side of Link
I fought the water temple before the fire temple so the part that talks about how goron weapons are the way to go didn't affect me
A person's dark side can be quite helpful and powerful, but...
Imagine dark link vs the fierce deity
Yessir
Awesome graphics with your video dude! 😀I agree with you that Dark Link is the dark counterpart of Link! 😀Just like I believe that Ganondorf is the Dark counterpart of Zelda! 😀Think about there are both are royalties, human reincarnations of higher/superior supernatural beings (The Demon King Demise with Ganondorf and The Goddess Hylia with Zelda) and they both have pieces of the triforce! 😀
At 6:27 I did the Water Temple before the Fire Temple.
i would like a story in botw 2 where ganon uses his powers to seperate dark link from links body and turn him into a boss. with dark link being links main form of anger resent hate aggression sadness. links battle state would be weaking and wont be able to be as good as he once was until he defeats dark link and reunite into one link body. to do that he would need various items from dungeons and of course the help of his ghost demon hand .
I noticed that Zelda, Star wars, avatar, and Naruto. Has a kid that faces inner self and it's always at a tree or lake. I think it's a turning point where a boy has to come a man.
I never faced dark link in my playthrough of legend of Zelda ocarina of time where he shows up
Just an FYI, you can in fact beat dark link with only your sword.
Dark link should have been the subboss in the shadow temple, unsure what that would make the water temple subboss though.
If we get a Dark Link return in BotW2 i hope he doesn't just mirror your moves, no, instead i hope they give us a fight that shows how powerful the AI can be using everything Link has at his disposal. Make it a fight we will dread but remember till the day we die.
Hopefully he's in botw 2 that would be sick
Wait a minute... how long has the little bald guy at the end of Zelda II been the dead king? I've always wondered who he was, but the Zelda wiki doesn't even acknowledge his existence.

1. It was probably the Temple itself that made Link fight his own evil to prove himself, like the King did in AoL.
2. Imagine having to fight both Dark Link & Shadow Link at once. 1 Dark Link, but mass produced Shadow Links that're weaker.
if Link ever talked, I'd erase everyone single piece of data on the internet! NO VPN protection, Complete Deletion!
I really hope Dark Link returns in BotW 2. Possibly even acting like a secondary antagonist.
