    Even with all the rain in June, our raised beds helped to achieve an incredible onion harvest!

    Great onion harvest! You are curing them exactly like I do. They should cure up nicely and last throughout the winter. Hard to believe we are taking out the veggies already!

      We're going to preserve them in many ways to make sure we've got a years worth of onions! Cheers Annette!

      The raised beds were a winner. The onions loved the well-drained beds. Cheers Tani!

    We haven't planted onions for a few years. Never figured out what we were doing wrong, but there are vegetables that we can grow.
    In the old hog exercise lot we would grow nice onions.
    Thank you Rich.

      If you plant them too deep or have to hard of soil, you won't have luck. I bet the hogs loosened up the soil and added fertilizer to help the onions! Cheers Bryce!

    Nice!!! They are beautiful!!Wish ours were big like that. We have them in a ground garden, and the rabbits ate the tops! Next year, i think we are going to put them in raised beds.

      You will love the raised beds. They really were a game changer for our heavy soil. The onions thrived! Cheers!

    Nice harvest! Did you get the storms yesterday afternoon/evening? I was looking up north thinking uh oh....

    • @TheOldSwedesFarm
      @TheOldSwedesFarm  5 місяців тому +1

      We ended with .59" of rain. I feel like the hardest storms went around us. I hope you were spared all the strong storms. Cheers Lorri!

    Fantastic harvest! Are you using cattle troughs for planters or are they metal garden beds? I’ve been looking at the different options.

    • @TheOldSwedesFarm
      @TheOldSwedesFarm  5 місяців тому +2

      These are cattle troughs. We just bought six more. We've got plans for next year already! Keep us posted on what you decide! Cheers Lisa!

    I'm jealous as my onions did squat this year!

    • @TheOldSwedesFarm
      @TheOldSwedesFarm  5 місяців тому +1

      Look at what you did and let's see what went wrong (and it might be Mother Nature). What happened with the onions? Didn't grow? Mushy? How deep did you plant them? Did the soil have organic material in it? Hard, clay soil or soft fertile soil? Give me a better picture of what you did, soil conditions and what happened. Maybe we can figure this out for next year.

      @@TheOldSwedesFarm I think it was to much shade as I planted them along my 2 foot chicken fence on the side of the garden where the new "bleep bleep" 4 plexes are and my raspberry row so they didn't get much morning sun. Then as the sun did move around the apple tree shaded out half the row and then after that the cuke and tomato fence blocked the sun and so on down the rows with the corn and at the end of the day it was the pine trees! They were in ground and even though the soil was fertile and broad forked I think the combination of the 16 inches of rain we got in less than a month and the lack of sun is what caused the damage. There are no failures in gardening...just learning lessons and I have been gardening since I was 8 years old and I am now 66 and still learning!!!!!

      @@iexpectmiracles 16 inches of rain and the shade will do that. Let's hope the rain was a one-year issue. You've got enough experience to know all that. I am guessing that next year will be a whole new ballgame! I'm blessed with no shade for the veggies (maybe that's a curse at times!). Keep me updated next year as you get the onions in the ground (and a big harvest!).
