Better now in some Asian countries. There are some decent Rock/Metal bands in Japan. But in Korea and China, most people would prefer flower-boys who sing Pop and dance
Actually Japan was always known as a metal liking country in the metal scene which is why often bands even have Japan exclusive titles/ album editions. Ofcourse it's not very present in mainstream media much but it's still a lot more in comparison to other countries
