I don't see how a road bike would give you a better workout other than giving you more fine-tuned control over the resistance with the greater amount of gears. They're both fine for getting your cardio in.
Take it this way, my main concern for looking up videos like this is because I want to do food deliveries. I require a bike that I can reach a top speed of at least 25mph and if I can up to 30mph. I train legs and do workout, so I'm athletic enough, and this might even make me tougher with higher gears from a road bike. By your comment, you dont need such bike to reach a limit. Bigger gears mean, bigger workout as you require more strength to push through and in return, you get to go faster than the average
@@terminator7137 I think the video says the exact opposite of what you've said at first and then says the opposite of that at the end. Logic dictates that if the roadie is built for speed it is easier to move over the same distance. The simple fact that it is lighter weight makes that true. That means, all other things being equal, if you cover the same distance on the hybrid you will use more muscle power, not less. The roadie will get there faster no doubt, but the hybrid has to be the better workout for time spent/distance covered.
I ride alone, and take frequent stops at lights. I’d take my hybrid over my road bike almost any day! In fact the only reason I bought a road bike was to see if road riding was for me, and dedicating myself to clipless pedals, all out speed, and pure road efficiency just aint for me. I’ll surely ride the road bike, since I own it, but my hybrid proves her merit time and time again! Plus, I can upgrade her 60 ways to Sunday!
All great advice here folks. 💯 I started cycling as rehab for a busted knee. I started on hybrid. After I got familiar with cycling and the environment/terrain I picked up a used road bike. Spiralled from there. I went: Hybrid Road Gravel XC And I now I’m back to a hybrid. But I went steel this time and put swept bars on it. I love it.
All I can say is that from what I see on the streets/bike paths, 95% of road bikes and drop handles are just for show. Yes, they are built for speed, but 95% of the riders I see have their hands on the hoods nearly all the time. That puts them in a more upright position as does the hybrid. And most are in their easiest gear almost all the time because they are on flats most of the time. Riding a roadie takes skill and I'm appreciative of that skill, but if you really believe that the majority of people riding them are "working out" more than if they were on a hybrid, you don't know people or physics much.
Used a sirrus comp for about 5k miles before I went to a tarmac. The bar ends was helpful for another potion. The sweet spot was 28mm tires for group rides. With the stem turned down. The problem would be flats with head wind is where I get dropped on longer sections. Works great for climbing and has plenty of room to throw on wider tires for gravel rides. Once I moved to a tarmac. I put an 11-25 cassette on it and it's been my dedicated zwift bike for 10k miles.
yea it is always a nice experience to go through the whole upgrade system and really get an appreciation for your equipment and feel the differences between them, I always recommended it but sometimes people like to skip ahead
If I were to by a bike that was supposed to take me to a store and maybe to a beach to leave it there and maybe abuse it a bit, I would certainly not want a specialized name written on it. A wallmart bike can do that quite alright without paying some extra for the brand and worrying about your bike getting stolen.
I have both.....Road bike when i want to get out and get some good work and hybrid for leg work because they're geared different thus higher cadence to keep same speed.
Love this video! How bout a gravel bike video, please? You are so right, there’s no all-around bike. I currently have the Diverge and a Rockhopper, and I feel I need a designated road bike. I was looking at that Allez Sprint video you have, that bike looks awesome!
Allez Sprint would be an excellent choice. Your Diverge already has an endurance road bike-esque geometry and I'm sure the Rockhopper is a beast. The final piece would be an aggressive road bike geometry like an Allez Sprint or Tarmac SL6/SL7
@@willgardner8307 Honestly the only bike my Local Bike Shop had in stock , it’s Carbon Fiber Frame is buttery smooth, I have over 2500 miles on her , mostly Tarmac , I’ve switched out the Cassette to a 9-46 , and I also replaced the Crankset to a GRX 46Tooth Chainring by WolfTooth , I can climb anything I want and hit speeds of over 35Mph, threw on Aero Bars to tuck in on descents, and slapped on challenge Strada 36c tires , I’m very happy with the Sirrus x 5.0 , I guess I lucked out 🤘🏼🚴🏽 , you can see all my upgrades on my UA-cam video , Happy Trails Brother 🤘🏼🚴🏽🤘🏼🚴🏽
What about a gravel VS Hybrid. I like my Specialized Sirrus X 4.0 but thinking of a mid grade gravel because I ride it a lot for performance but not racing and on a gravel surface at trails often.
I want a bike that's gonna be able to ride long distances like maybe 100km in a day. I want something that is easy to ride for those distances. What do you recommend
yes because the geometry is meant for a more comfort fit, where as a road bike is not meant for cruising speeds lol, kind of a like a real fast tuned race car is not meant for city driving
we have yet to see a Fuze in the states....I think they are building all these hybrid because they get so many people buying them, but my brother wants a Fuze here in Kansas and we can't get shit over here. He's waited over a year or something I think. Probably have to wait 2 more years, so he's retracting his deposit with the local bike shop cause they just upped the price yet again. Ridiculous
Thank you for this video. As a new cyclist content like this is helpful. Would also love videos about cliche cycling things like "why granny gears are bad", why only 105 group set and above is ok, appropriate group sets based on region (hills/flats), and recommendations for heavy cyclists (250lbs and up) - loved the NFL player build vids
@@GCPerformance18 This is a great video, do the same rules apply when comparing hybrid to a endurance Road bike like the roubiax ? Especially since roubiax geometry is slightly different than tarmac shown here?
@@GCPerformance18 yep..its crazy how they cheat the buyers and give them a half way shimano 105 set up on hybrid bikes...only the derailleurs are 105 and maybe the crank(if you noticed the giant fast road U.S. version for 2021 got the older 105 crank vs the current 105 crank that was given to Asia)..I guess Giant caters more to Asia..I guess the supply and demand is higher?? thanks so much I tried my best to not be sparatic with it, but sometimes I can ramble

Sold my vintage road bike. Bought a Specialized Sirrus. Have no regrets. Neck and back are much happier. That Tarmac looks nice though😳
yea the new sirrus is is a nice upgrade from the vintage road bikes

I think a happy medium in between both of these bikes would be the Diverge.

Flat bar hybrids can hang with a moderate group ride 15-17 with ease, also don’t forget flat bar gravel bikes!
yea this is true
Hanging with the Roadies is lots of fun , with my 9-46 cassette & 46 Tooth Chainring it’s quite entertaining trailing the Roadies 🤘🏼🚴🏽🤘🏼🚴🏽

such a ncie bike it doesnt get enough credit
