I think it was another of many mistakes by the McCain campaign. Later they wanted to blame her for "going rogue." That was when she was at her best, when she ignored them.

@@sanjitsarda7555 I disagree. I think the stage was set for a democratic wave. Bush was deeply unpopular and no matter how much McCain tried to distance himself from him it didn’t work. Obama offered prosperity whereas McCain just seemed like an unrelatable politician. And while yes Palin certainly hurt him as it eroded his credibility it wasn’t the main factor in my opinion.

They each got 2 minutes per question. when President Trump interrupted Biden after the first question it should have been open disc because Biden had already gone over his time. Wallace let Biden just keep talking. during the first open discussion Wallace let Biden talk most of the time. he would tell President Trump hold on and then look at Biden and say "go ahead sir". during President Trump's answer on the second question Biden laughs loud twice and then cuts in. it was still the President's two minutes. TIME IT! I don't blame President Trump for taking over. He wouldn't have gotten his point across otherwise. listen to their substance. Joe wouldn't even answer basic questions.

That means that Biden barely got 1/3 of the debate and, even then, trump *on average* interrupted him every 30 seconds.

Trump is a winger by his nature. Had he prepared then he would have sounded unnatural. Compare his teleprompter speeches (stiff and wooden) to his off-the-cuff speeches which are much more passionate and genuine, even if what's coming out of his mouth is total BS.
I watched this to see if Biden has lost any cognitive function. Unfortunately it seems pretty clear that he was a lot sharper here in 2008 than he is in 2019. Age has had an effect. I say this as a supporter of Biden. He trips over his words now at a much higher frequency. He use to be really sharp and a top notch debater.

I'll never forget watching this live at the Georgia State University Commons. It was hosted by the Political Science Department. Those months from August 2008-November 2008 will stick with me forever.
Say what you will about Sarah Palin, how unqualified she was to be Vice President and her wacky comments during this election. But this debate was a much more productive and civil one than future debates to follow.

I've long thought that this was an EXCELLENT debate. Very civil, good questions, excellent moderator (too bad she passed on). Joe Biden, even though I am a conservative, proved he is capable of debating. but it's amazing how much younger he looks here! Can't believe it! I really want to say though, Sarah Palin's performance in this debate was truly wonderful and totally underrated. She got her point across, she was detailed, she was poignant, compelling, concise, civil, she was great. They both were very civil with each other though, and that was the best part.

So he’s older… obviously he’s not as well as he was back then, nobody is. Doesn’t make him necessarily unfit, that depends on many factors. And I think he stumbled a little bit, but not too much here.
