I'm Italian. In the late 70's Raffaella Carrà, very famous Italian showgirl, did lots of videos like this for her great success. This video bring back so many memories of my childhood. Same outfits, same hair, same special effects. So cool and psychadelic! Music is different of course. Carrà's songs were more simple and fun (some almost stupid). But the same energy and style! I love it.
I genuinely have never seen an artist release music for nearly 30 years and continually bring me joy, excitement, and genuine enjoyment. Róisín is truly incredible. Please never stop.
The mark of a good singer for me is when you hear the voice you know instantly who it is. Roisin is one such singer. Her unique vocals, without having to be overpowering, are a joy to the ear. She's given us some great tunes for over 25 years now and it's a shame she hasn't reached the full recognition she truly deserves. Her days with Moloko in the early 90's showed her potential & I would always say investigate those years if you don't know them. Her love of dance music can never be denied of course & this very Daft Punk sounding video version of 'Narcissus' is yet another blinder to add to her ever increasing catalogue. Grace Jones, similarly, made some fantastic music in her early career but was never totally appreciated as such until, I would say, she sang outside Buckingham Palace for the Queens Golden Jubilee. Hula hooping, no less, in her 70's through her entire version of 'Slave to the Rhythm'. Roisin will have her defining moment one day I'm sure. She's one of a kind & long may she reign!
Congrats Joshua, being from Italy I wondered if the coreography and Roisin's look were paying homage to legendary italian showgirl and show host Raffaella Carrà
I'd be honored if some Roisin Murphy fans would come by & take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of 80s/90s standards on my YT channel in tribute to the genius songwriting of the era. Raw acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
I remember listening to this in my car driving to work when it was released before Thanksgiving and turning the music all the way up as loud as it would go and singing a harmony part to go with it. Love this song!
That rhythm, that hair, that cape!!! It's like reviving one of your concerts all over again, in one song. Absolutely in love with those studio 54 vibes 🖤🖤🖤 WOW
You MUST listen to the album in context. ITS FANTASTIC. This song is glorious .. ... youll be shouting along to the Prose part because its kinda the highlight of an incredibly well put together album. THIS IS A SLAM DUNK WINNER of an album & a glorious track from it. I SIMPLY CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS BEAUTY ENOUGH.
Have been watching Raffaella 'Rumore' live performances on a loop for years now and to see Roisin go for it and tap into such a powerhouse era and woman of music, ooft, all the feels ❤️
Good question! I do like very much her interpretation of Narcissus's tale, but I do not like Narcissus, nor Disco. I am very bothered choosing thumb up or down.
The Rosebud verse is to me one of the most elusive set of lyrics written. I sometimes cry when I hear it its so deep and well written. I think Joni Mitchell would be proud of it. The story of narcissus is a great one, truly the saddest story ever told. It's also so old there are several different tellings of it based on slight variations in copies of long lost original texts. Roisin seems to be mixing them around slightly for artistic purpose. to me the meaning refracts like a kaleidoscope so many possible interpretations. Roisin the name means "little rose", Rosebud was the last line used in Citizen Kane to signify the last time he was innocent, or the John Waterhouse painting "Gather ye Rosebuds while ye may", based on an even older poem from the 1600s. The poem and the painting are about Persephone not narcissus, however the flowers she was picking were narcissi, named after narcissus.
I follow her since 20 years, I believe I saw the concert of Pinkpop 2004 20/30 times :) I´m litterally fall in love of her the first day I´m listenning this special voice :) A big artist. Love every concept her and love art fashion she is wearing in concert, especially Murphy 's hats and mask faces. It´s 5h00 of the night, I think i put again the live she did at Forest National Brussels before sleeping :) . Regards from Seville
This woman has it all by the bucket load, style, talent, fabulous material too! I'm so glad she hasn't become mainstream and all madonnaesque! Loved her work since the early days of moloko, would she marry me? I'd worship her! 🙏
The rosebud part gives me the chills!

you should better read who is genius

Her taste level is like no other. Always bringing some weird, unexpected angle, very enjoyable.
probably one of the best basslines ive heard in a long time.
This sounds like it should be a 70s disco classic.

Love this modern disco she’s putting out!
was there a category called "Nu Disco" ?
The long version is even better!
Something about her voice brings back such a comforting familiarity.

Fantastic! Miles ahead. Greek mythology goes disco. Need a XXL version.
Hercules & Love Affair did it ;)
@@BlackiceLORD Can you link it please!!
Uzair J. Sherwani misunderstood.
I mean that H&LA did it before mixing dance and Greek mythology. First album artwork.
Disco is a fit with this "Narcissus"''s tale. Lyrics are just great and remind me of the oldest (so said) Homeric Hymns.
RAFFAELLA CARRÁ!!! Una genia, amé el vídeo.
Not a single song is a "filler song" they're all genius and artists now can't hold a candle to this!

I love how consistent she is with her artistry. She always brings something new to her craft. Rock on Roisin. You're one of my favorites.

I'm gonna tell my kids she was a very famous artist from the 70's.
lololol amazing. i wouldn't even flinch if someone told me this was truly an original 70's disco song
they will respond: no, daddy. she's a cougar born in the 1970's.
And 80’s.
She only became famous in the 90s when the Moloko was founded (1995). She was born in 1973.
@@wyrwijsienet
I think they're talking about this being a pastiche of Raffaella Carrà's style.
Roisin is...
The Queen Of Modern Disco.
Roisin Murphy and Robyn are the ones who will save modern music and pull it out from the awful state is in today 🙏🏽
You got it right. She will really deliver with her new album 😭❤❤

Robyn is crap compared to Roisin
