@@TheDeeps369it used to be, if you watch women's floor routines now they have almost no dance elements in them anymore. I remember watching this routine on the live broadcast and it was just as impressive now as it was then. She was absolutely a master of her craft. Beautiful routine.
Did you notice her feet and arm movements? She has an arched point that gives her movements graceful integrity, much like ballet movements. Her arms move with dance-like precision. She, too, is powerful like Biles, but I think much more gracefully, and that makes the difference.
She's not quite as powerful as Simone Biles. I'd like to give credit where it's due. Yes, this girl has more artistry, but she's a product of her time and the judging. It's not about the grace of the individual athletes. It's about the fact that they would be judged very low for having a routine with this many artistic elements in the modern day.
To clarify, all artistic sports have moved their focus to athletic/technical elements in the name of objectivity, and for the sake of gaining respectability as sports. Because of their times, Simone Biles is an athlete first and an artist second. Podkopayeva is an artist first and an athlete second. Neither of them really had a choice in that because they were trained to give the judges what they wanted and get the highest scores.
@@2GoatsInATrenchCoatI know. I wish they'd go back to more overall artistry and artistic elements. I feel like it's all just maximum difficulty now with no technique or dance.
@@Cat-no8ts 100%! But Don think Biles has ever had extensive ballet training, if she Had, she would have been taught to turn feet out and point her toes. This IS the big difference in the Russians, Chinese, Romanians. That added finesse makes ALL the difference!!!
It was standard for soviet gymnasts. By this time, Ukraine was independent so she didn't compete for the soviet union, but her early training was done under the soviet system. As a result not only was she more graceful than most, she also personally knew many of her competitors from former USSR countries. They were split up now and competing on separate teams, but they'd all trained together just a few years earlier.
Lilia was always one of my favorites. I was ecstatic when she won the World Cup Individual All- around. She was always outshone by others, but persevered.

@2GoatsInATrenchCoat she was only 16!
That beam slammed straight into her clam . Respect for not stopping for a sniff .
Gracious, precise and focused. Just perfect!
And this is what they mean by artistry
Если вы задали такой вопрос, значит вам этого невозможно обьяснить😢, увы не поймёте что такое красота, грация , изящество...
I didn't ask that question. It was a statement not a question. Obviously language did not translate correctly for you. I agree with you.
ABSOLUTELY!
То, чего не хватает в современной гимнастике.
Нужно, всё-таки, различать гимнастику и акробатику.
Куда смотрят федерации???..
Agreed. I don’t think ballet is even part of their training anymore except for the types of leaps.
Очаровала своим выступлением, грация, сила, мастерство ❤
Это чудо из прошлого. И не за деньги. Такое бывает только от души.😢❤
И совершенно здоровая,безо всяких синдромов внимания!
She WON gold 🥇 Floor exercise and All around 1996! Lilia 🇺🇦 from Ukraine legendary!
Wow she did all that so flawlessly! Absolutely amazing and beautiful!
Her exquisite elegance, toe point, line and extension 😍, combined with power and athleticism! Lilia was a true ARTISTIC gymnast! 🥇❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Power?
Power?? She literally walked across the beam.
Gymnastics back in the day had more wow moments. Skill is insane!!
You can tell she's had extensive ballet training! Makes her performance better than others!!❤❤❤
Ella es muy bonita y talentosa 👍 me tocó ver esa transmisión en Vivo yo era una niña en aquel entonces de 12 años. Buenos recuerdos 😊
"Lily Pad" is still so lovely to watch, years later.
Humans can accomplish so much when they have direction!🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Это восхищение.
Lilia was always one of my favorites. I was ecstatic when she won the World Cup Individual All- around. She was always outshone by others, but persevered.
Isn't she something special? Incredible!
Truly amazing. So much strength, balance and skill. I can see you work at this harder than many work at a full time job. Be safe and continued blessings. Never let your pride stop the flow. ❤
She ATTACKED every element but also all of her connections were polished and poised.
