Players taking nights off and forcing their way off teams to create super teams was the beginning of the end. The Kobe and MJ types of attitudes and mentality toward the game are gone. Delusional take, Lebron was the best player on the court every game of the regular season for 16 years+, dominating on both ends of the floors for at least 12 years. This revisionist history that he doesnt play defense is insane. You could've named actual cone on defense from stars like Steph, Jokic and Luka but you tried to make a point that doesnt exist.
Let’s blame 39 year old Lebron, who actually tries to play, when there are ´star’ players like Embiid, PG, Kawhi, harden, and Simmons who demand max contracts then sit out games and games at a time.

I know Dan loves the NBA since basketball is one of his loves, but it took him until recently to finally admit how the NBA isn't as popular as he made it out to be the last few years. The TV ratings have shown to be pretty weak for allegedly the number 2 sport in America with the amount of coverage Dan to ESPN gives. For all the issues I keep hearing about baseball, this show included, somehow gets a pass with the NBA is infuriating. Thankfully Shoei, and a good overall season for the game brought back some eyeballs to the WBC. I digress, but the NBA is boring. Half of the stars sit out for load management. In baseball you at least saw Shoei to Aaron Judge bat almost every night, and most pitchers show up every few days. The only load management you see are innings pitch, but at least they playing over wearing a suit on a bench. I can go into the weeds all day, but when your biggest stars don't play a quarter to a third of the year, that's a problem. When you need to generate interest with some made up cup where it feels like half of the teams don't care, that's a problem. Then the entire sport nowadays is people shooting threes, and way too much attention on nonsense like Broony James who gets preferential treatment. It's ridiculous.
Coming from you Dan...I'm a little concerned. Hopefully folks like yourself can suggest solutions to save the NBA from going into another slump like in my childhood in the late 70's.
Dan I’m beginning to believe that the fundamental issue with All Star weekend is that the NBA has lost it’s ability to incentivize players worth tens and hundreds of millions of dollars to care about an event outside of their responsibilities to their individual teams The only real incentives are financial, you gotta offer the winning players a million each or maybe more and if that doesn’t work then just get rid of the entire weekend and just let guys get 10 days to rest before making a playoff push
I have gradually lost interest over the past decade. I miss the rivalries/anomosity, being unreliant upon just chucking up 3’s and everyone else stands around, playing hard every night w/o load management, prioritizing both sides of the court, etc. Subjectively, I do miss the physicality.
Exactly the nba is pushing highlights, not narratives. I can find a highlight reel of any sport, eventually that loses its luster. They need emotional connection with fans.
For the 3 pt shooting contest have (by process of elimination) a national amateur contest culminating in the nations best 3 pt shooter going against the pros. Guaranteed the fans would be rooting for the amateur

His coverage of the NBA this season doesn’t reflect someone who’s this hardcore League Pass watcher like he’s trying to make it seem
We started a fantasy baseball league last year at work and had a blast with it, so we tried a fantasy basketball league this season and barely made it a month before we agreed to dissolve it out of lack of interest. Load management made setting lineups impossible, plus the games couldn’t be more boring to watch. Don’t tell me the NBA isn’t in big trouble Mr. Silver, you’re losing die hard sports fans by the dozens
This won’t fix anything. The problem is the players dont play hard. If they implemented 1 v 1, they still wouldn’t play hard. You have to eliminate guaranteed contracts.
@@Leadernotafollower-g6d I don't think guaranteed contracts are the problem per say...I just think the amount of money in the guaranteed contract is the problem...only a percentage of the contract should be guaranteed...the rest should be earned based on performance...that will fix a lot of the laziness in the NBA today.
Seton's point of all star games shouldn't matter is dumb, I'd argue MLB all star game was more interesting when home field in the world series was on the line. It meant something so it had that tune in factor unlike now
BSPN keeps talking about LeBron even if the story is nonsense. They don't focus on the new NBA stars. Also, LeBron James needs to retire, I am tired of the LeBron story.
But the WNBA shoots closer range with a smaller ball. I’m not interested in that. If you want to beat Curry, we’re not grading on a curve. NBA ball. NBA range.
The only reason LeBron is relevant is because the media keeps him relevant...real basketball fans know he's a fraud....if he ever played in the post like Carmelo Anthony he would be dominant....but no, he'd rather be on the three point line with that awful jump shot.
Every team is the same the league wanted to eliminate the big man and reward the shooters and all you see nothing but threes and nobody is playing in the post. If you are posting and get fouled they don’t reward the big man. If you’re posting your man and are to aggressive offensive foul.,Therefore the league is nothing but 3p shots with no physicality.
This whole segment is Giannis disrespect. Bucks games are fun to watch cuz Giannis is out there dunking on and bullying players on both ends night after night. The fact none of the people in that room even mentioned him, despite Giannis' big personality... blatant disrespect
NBA is “sometimes” not relevant-or- “most of the time” not relevant. You can’t fix a lack of competition and integrity without doing away with guaranteed contracts. The entire league’s structure needs to be revamped. You need to create an Industry where players are willing to earn their money by playing sports ball. Bring back competition and your stars will show themselves. Furthermore, you will never know the new stars when you refuse to Point the camera at anyone but the old. These days they want to fabricate a star like Zion and then follow along. Meanwhile, he’s got guaranteed money and could care less. Competition created stars in the 80’s and 90’s and the sports media did a better job of covering the league as a whole rather than the same 3 guys for 2 decades. The old guard of sports media has become lazy along with the league! It all starts, ends, and gets fixed by getting rid of guaranteed contracts and making the players earn their money! This will attract the type of character the NBA is missing.
Maybe everyone is finally recognizing that basketball is a boring game. It’s a mind numbing scoring fest, that doesn’t matter to watch until the last 2 minutes - and even then it’s insufferable watching foul after foul.
The NBA can’t be fixed. Silver is not a leader. What can he do? He can’t be fired. It all about attitude and accountability. Who cares? Just give me the money. Basketball is just a hobby for the guys who make all money. Durant is speaking up but where are the other all stars. Why show up? Take a stand and stay home.

Dan is correct when talking about the joker. The fact the other guys are floored and confused at what he’s saying show they don’t get how correct Dan is. Nobody cares about the nba right now.
Maybe if I half the season wasn't playoffs and half the teams didn't make it and it might be interesting. Now that college has nil and there's enough money to keep players for 4 years, or a young player can play for 4 years upwards of 6. All maxing out make an easy money. It's going to hurt when rookie contracts have to start out as much if not more than what they are making in the N.I.L..

It’s simple, the players obviously don’t give a shit, why should we?
The all star game is not a real game. Call it the Globetrotters where we just show up and horse around. Why keep score? Why?
So wrong about Jokic. He’s more unique than Edwards and Morant. We’ve had high flyers. Never had a big man who can pass and see the floor like Jokic
But the WNBA shoots closer range with a smaller ball. I’m not interested in that. If you want to beat Curry, we’re not grading on a curve. NBA ball. NBA range.
As much money as they give out in contracts to some of these gangsters from the hoods, the NBA must be very popular !!!???
Pro bowl = NBA all star game
To be honest, I only watch Inside the NBA and box score...
The only reason LeBron is relevant is because the media keeps him relevant...real basketball fans know he's a fraud....if he ever played in the post like Carmelo Anthony he would be dominant....but no, he'd rather be on the three point line with that awful jump shot.
Agreed. He had his time. Its time to move on
All-Star games, and the pro bowl in my humble opinion are a waste of time
As a better, they are awful right now to try and win money on. The blowouts and “injuries” make it impossible so I’ll stick with my NCAAB
Self consciousness
I agree Jokic is good but hes a lot like Tim Duncan 😂...but was Shaq exciting just because he could overpower guys and dunk on them ..not in my book.
Joker is not must see T.V.
You need to create an
Industry where players are willing to earn their money by playing sports ball.
Bring back competition and your stars will show themselves. Furthermore, you will never know the new stars when you refuse to
Point the camera at anyone but the old.
Put defense back in the game! Allow physicality! can't even fart in the nba anymore without the ref going off
The NBA can’t be fixed. Silver is not a leader. What can he do? He can’t be fired. It all about attitude and accountability.
Who cares? Just give me the money. Basketball is just a hobby for the guys who make all money. Durant is speaking up but where are the other all stars. Why show up? Take a stand and stay home.
I can fix the NBA
Sometimes? I dont think ive felt the desire to watch the nba since like 2017. Its just not entertaining anymore, nothing driving me to watch it.
Nba is updated there problam in the last 30 yrs ,it the wnba no marketing no moving the goalpost for better views ,nba commercials nothing ,there not marketing the future stars nothing ,nba is dieing because of football and baseball marketing which is global
WOW Dan, you over thought this far too much. Its easy, players dont care, so fans dont care. LeBron's legacy, player empowerment and a league full of best friends. Not to mention every team plays the same way. You watch 1 game, you pretty much seen every game.
Woke NBA is the main problem. Lebron and the NBA pissed off and turned off more than half the country.
The NBA is lame. No defence, boring forced shots 3 point shots, load management and whiny baby athletes.
I used to love the NBA when Kobe was playing. Was still watching a little when Curry was winning. You couldn’t pay me to watch it now
They appeal mainly to 1 demographic. Rest of us don’t really care with the exception of a few. Stopped watching in 2015 and I’m never going back considering the way they view their fans.
not a problem at all. hoping it becomes much less relevant.
The NBA is a mockery of basketball, 4 steps and no traveling called, no thanks, I'll watch college till it gets trashed
Lebron is must see tv 😂...Good one Dan.
the laker lebron shilling from him and others is still insane and they wonder why the game is in such a bad state. really lebron and nepo baby lakers are must see tv? outrageous statement tbh.
Can’t watch NBA anymore. It’s not about the game anymore. It’s about social and political crap. Same with ESPN. Pure Garbage Fire
The nba is not relevant anymore, period.
What if we turn the NBA into WWE? Scripted storylines, scripted wins and loses.
Have the absolute worst player come us out of nowhere. Imagine if Jeremy Lin would have made it to that finals that one year!
Now that kind of fan interaction but every season. No need to shorten the season. Just add some cliffhangers in between games.
Fake injuries just for a dramatic draw.
Zion and lamelo were supposed to be it...zion had it made...just wrong team and cant stay healthy//fit
He was 1 dunk contest away from superstardom. Especially going up against the little white dude.
People are finally sick and tired of lebron and silver. Worst era of NBA in a long time. Lebron will go down as the worst GOAT of all time
NBA is crap now .I stopped watching 2 years ago and I used to watch every game is the 90 and 2000
Lebron needs to retire already he his holding the young superstars back he always wants them to talk about him
Try pronouncing the best player in basketball's NAME correctly. Jesus Dan. Good thing you're otw out.
Stop being relevant when the third string center shows up to the arena in his Porche 911GT3RS, wearing weird clothes and acting like he is a star.
Stopped watching all leagues when it shifted from being about sports….
LeBron screwed up the NBA. When he retires the ratings will go back up. 😂 Sorry dan your boyfriend lebrin is a fraud 😂
Even you don’t believe that. Haters will celebrate when he retires and I’m absolutely fine with that. But to say the ratings will go up is a bit disingenuous
@ClayJunior2 we'll see and if they do dont hate😀
@@AlfonsoRamirez-k5l lol
The nba is boring with entitled, spoiled stars, woke political nonsense and a game that has gotten hollowed out. What's the point?
Dan is correct when talking about the joker. The fact the other guys are floored and confused at what he’s saying show they don’t get how correct Dan is. Nobody cares about the nba right now.
Maybe if I half the season wasn't playoffs and half the teams didn't make it and it might be interesting. Now that college has nil and there's enough money to keep players for 4 years, or a young player can play for 4 years upwards of 6. All maxing out make an easy money. It's going to hurt when rookie contracts have to start out as much if not more than what they are making in the N.I.L..
The best players do their best to align themselves to play on the same team not against each other. Also, where have all the "villains" gone? Where are the rivalries? 🥱
