It's hard for me to answer this because I don't entirely understand what you mean :/ If you mean why not equate dh/dt to the rate water is pumped in, or in other words, why dh/dt is not the answer, it's because water is also _leaking out_ of the tank. @@william3371 he subbed in for r instead of for h. if he subbed in for h, then he could have differentiated both sides and dh/dt is already given, so he would have gotten dv/dt right away
