😮 Greetings from the coast of Mississippi and Twelve Oaks plantation. I survived Camille and Katrina. To this day, sidewalks leading to nowhere still haunts me. Our coast is the Jewel of the South ❤

I was here for Katrina lived in MS my whole life. I was in the fire department at the time. This was an absolutely awful experience and to this day I will evacuate I will never stay for another storm that is Cat 2 or above. The weeks and months that followed were some of the hardest times we've ever endured. Makes me mad that we get looked over when they talk about Katrina. We had 28 to 30 feet of water where I was. If you have to question whether to evacuate, just go. Yes it's expensive and time consuming but your life is worth more.

Nature is the great equalizer not beholding to race class secularism or political affiliation, in the storm we all are one. When there is a disaster we become our best selves as we lend aid and comfort to one another as we navigate our collective losses and appreciate our survival. The question to us all is why is it that after the misery ends so many of us can’t sustain that spirit of commonality and live in the spirit of that universal truth but instead return to the old nonsensical divided mindset that we find ourselves in today? I can’t help but wonder.

I live in Hancock county. Bay Saint Louis has largely rebuilt and has opened up many bars and whatnot for its tourism outfit. There is a new bay bridge that is very beautiful and much larger than the original. Waveland has not been able to catch up quite as much and there is still a lot of dilapidated buildings from Katrina.

But, a lot more people have moved 10+ miles inland to get away from the immediate coastline.

Thanks for posting these. I was one who didn't evacuate. Now I can show my kids what it was like.

If you’re on the water, that would be stupid to stay but if you were North of I-10, you’ll be okay. It be just the wind I would be concerned about.

Man seeing our flag out was awesome! Good on you Mississippi! It wasn't so long ago that the flag meant something to everyone.

I don't think I'd want to believe in a god who sends terrible disasters to force people into believing in it.
