Exactly, even redesigning characters like that to look different suggests that people who look like the redesigns are ugly. And, lots of times, they features are weirdly specific. The best part about Yoko Taro's reaction was when puritans tried to get him outraged at lewd fanart of 2B. His response was pretty much: "This is amazing, send it all to me so I can share with the world."
fun fact: Shantae has never been confirmed to be 16, her age has always been ambiguous. The claim was made by an ex-dev who had no association with the brand anymore.
Raven from DC Comics has been wearing a leotard for a *MINUTE* and these mfs never complained... The second some Japanese dudes do that, oooh no we must squash that like a bug immediately!!! 🙄 I'm pretty sure these people only lashed out against Persona 5 because it was very popular and they were desperately looking for their fifteen minutes of fame... You can't change my mind.
The fact that a bunch of Twitter idiots think that a company based in Japan should adhere to their moral standards of designing women, when the age of consent is 14, is quite frankly racist
I mean, there is a problem with over sexualisation in media, however this does not mean that you cannot make sexual characters or even a character that wears a lack of clothing. For example: You can have a completely naked character without it being sexualised. Visa versa, you can make a completely covered character that is sexualised. You do have to remember that creators are creating in a world where sexualisation in in main thread of media, and as such they will fall into cliches that dictate Sexualisation. This is a very complex discussion, and people actually go to Uni (college) to do media studies that have this sort of discussion in it. Over all, I fully believe that any artist (or any creator) should be able to work in the realm of fiction. I do believe that you should think about what your drawing, if for nothing else than to keep creativity moving in unique ways and to avoid cliche. However, I don’t attack or blame anyone who draws characters this way. I don’t even really care that people draw porn, as long as they realise what they’re drawing and what the connotations are (so they don’t, ya know, put it on 13+ websites or something).
About the Danganronpa tweet, those characters (besides Kirigiri) are indeed all sexualized - but that's.. kind of the point. In a game chalk-full of characters, where 2/3 of them all die, they need to have a lot of different personalities and character designs. Most of the characters in the games aren't like this, this person just picked out the characters, specifically the girls that do look like that. Also, the entire game makes tons of sex jokes and innuendos. Both the boys and girls do and say this stuff equally.
As for Shantae's main design, she's a dancer who needs to be able to move gracefully or precisely. Less is More, it really helps in not hindering movement.
I think my only issue with bigtiddies and showing skin is when its purposefully done to be nothing but fan service and usually the only trait of a female character. I had to stop watching Fairy Tail cause a huge deal of the fights was tearing the females clothes to a point they were almost nude, every single time. Which did not happen to the male characters. It took out a lot of seriousness and emotion from scenes because of it.
I didn't watch that show in awhile, but I'm pretty sure the clothes tearing thing happened to the guys as well... I see so many people getting mad over anime girls being ''sexualized'', but when it's the guys being sexualized, no one gives a damn. Funny.
@@plzleavemealone9660 but notice how my issue is not that their clothes tear. My issue is that girls clothes tear to a ribbon over the nips and a string on the coochie. Guys clothes tear, like it normally would in a battle, they dont end up with a borat equivalent of swimming string or bollocks covered with a leaf adam style.
Yeah, no, that was pretty much what you said. You said it took out the seriousness out of scenes, but somehow only when it's womans clothes being torn apart. And to the titty thing, at least they still have something hiding their titties, most of the guys in Fairy Tale are half naked or get cut half naked in a fight. But no, fan service is only bad when it's for man. Oh, yeah, and when the boobies are big. And also with that one sentence you kinda insulted every female character in Fairy Tale.
Idk my boy laxus stripped quite Abit during his fight...also first person to actually get naked in that show was grey. In like, the third ep correct me I'm wrong tho I don't remember when he does it I haven't seen it in a while

Sheeeeiit, you've come a long way in a short time. I remember when you only had 2k. And is that "A Hat in Time" music I hear in the bg?
I’ve been a dancer for 13 years and as someone who wears a leotard most days I have never had a leotard “slip” off. Their whole thing is that they’re like a second piece of skin😂
The only time where I guess Tig ol bittie character designs bother me is when the character it self is boring in personality, or even just design is boring. Bayonetta is so bomb because there's so much character behind her.
To me, it's painful to look at when anatomy is horribly butchered And as a girl with literally just c cups, it still hurts your back. If half of these girls were real, they wouldn't be able to move But they are cool designs, will agree there
Same. I only have a problem with them if the character is boring like you said and if all of the female characters are designed in that same way. I don't think the second one is necessarily a huge problem or anything, just really my own personal annoyance. I just like seeing variety in a character's design and showing their personality even through their body type/shape, so when all the characters look the same it's really boring to me.
@AP P I'm not like, bashing it or anything, I'm just saying it hurts to look at with the anatomy skewed so much. I don't mind female characters with curves and big boobs, but when at some point, it should cause actual damage to a character, then I have some problems. Having big boobs sucks really. It's lots of back pain, hard to find things that fit, and nearly impossible to get a good bra. Not to mention, reduction surgery is pretty expensive. Idk, there should be some kinda line I guess.
Aight as a person who’s persona got torn to threads for wearing ‘revealing clothing’ it pisses me off. I literally do not own anything with long sleeves and I only have one pair of jeans (aka not shorts) because I get hot! Like damn, guess I’m not allowed to feel hot

They've become the very thing they rebelled against: Pearl-clutching, prudish, contrarian moral busybodies. Buzzkills and killjoys. SQUARES, basically.

“But she was consciously designed that way so that people can sexualize her.” People will usually say that to refute your claims which I respond...”yeah, so?” Honestly, if they could just say “I like this design for no particular reason, I just thought she would look cool and sexy” rather than bullshit excuses like “she breathes through her skin” I would have more respect to the designers
Puritans: "Real life women in bikinis and revealing outfits, totally okay" Puritans: "Fake and fictional women that are too sexy...oh hell no, they need rights!" Me: "Can we just have fun with what we draw? God Damn its just a drawing"
As a person who watches My Hero Academia. I see this a lot with Momo Yaoyorozu because her hero costume reveals a lot of her chest and some of her cleavage. Her power is to create objects from her body fat... She needs revealing clothes for larger objects.. And the more fat there is in an area the easier it is to create the object... See what I'm saying? Also, let the girl wear whatever the hell she wants. It's also funny that the people on Tumblr are only freaking out about Momo because she is a girl, while Kirishima, a boy character, is running around without a shirt.
GalaxyNoodle oh no! i wasn’t suggesting that you didn’t like her! i’m so sorry! i was just referencing to the people that don’t like her character design, that’s all :)
Like for fan service can be mostly anything if it’s framed as fan service So I don’t get why any girl who has a bit of skin showing is automatically fan service
In my oppinion fan service dosn't antomatically have to be sexual or even sexy. To me fan service is simply showing the fans what they want to see, an example would be having Godzilla and Gamera being in the same movie. Many film buffs (myself included) would love to see that.
Wow, I totally agree, as an cartoonist and cartoon fan I have been noticed thing like: Characters have smaller thighs, no breasts, and some wearing shirts instead of their original outfit which might show skin. This is probably just cuz they are for children, and they want to avoid any type of sexual looking stuff. I dont know I don't care it's just weird that characters designs are starting to feel the same.
I think there's a line between purpose, personality and context. I think that there's two extremes in this situation, the ones that are so Puritans they think Hijabs are revealing, and the Coomers who just see and want to see the sex appeal of a character and nothing else. A character design, if sexualized to a certain extreme, would be distracting and would totally ruin the way the public sees her. It would be like taking Phaedra, and make her a bimbo, no matter how well developed she is, people would just notice the bimbo part. I don't usually see the same problem with characters that are the exact opposite, besides female characters that look exactly like males. I have no problem with sexualized characters at all. I think the problem mostly comes with how it is used (Like for example a female soldier fighting in bikini in an overly realistic battlefield would be, unless it was intended for comedy, ridiculous) in the medium or by community. It's all about balance.
Sexualized designs are cool and I'm all for sex positivity! Few things tho... 1. Often times (mostly in anime) it is just fanservice/excuse to make money. Idk sometimes the designs are good, but other times it just feels like pandering for money, rather than artistic integrity, so the whole "sucking the fun out of it" argument doesn't really work there, considering it was done purely for uninteresting reasons. 2. Though I do feel as though people should be less prudish, and embrace sexual themes more, not everyone is comfortable with said themes. I know plenty of people who are very sex positive and are supportive of other people embracing sexuality, but they themselves aren't as comfortable with it for various reasons. We shouldn't demean people like that simply because overly sexual themes make them uncomfortable despite being okay with other people liking it. 3. What's wrong with people simply not liking the way sexualized designs look from an artistic standpoint? It's not everybody's cup of tea, and they're entitled to come up with their own version if they want to, just like how other people are entitled to changing a modest design to a more skimpy one. Edit: Before I get yelled at, I'm no puritan, I've literally drawn nsfw/pornographic things. I just think that people should be allowed to redesign something if they want to.
Jose Gonzalez Oh god. Her outfit corresponds to her quirk, she needs showing skin to create objects from her b o d y. She also has big tiddies. What is it about that that people don’t get?
My only problem with momo's outfit is that while running it an outfit lile that u gotta constantly shove ur boobs back in the thing. It couldve been a bit more efficient while being as sexy.

Or least kids they can wear the crop tops and stuff when with a group of friends or family... kids are more precious to look after, especially with everything going on. You can never predict. At least an adult is stronger and smarter and less vulnerable. Yes adults still get raped a.d killed but.... it's harder thinking of it happening to a child

I mean, there is a problem with over sexualisation in media, however this does not mean that you cannot make sexual characters or even a character that wears a lack of clothing.
For example:
You can have a completely naked character without it being sexualised.

Yes, yes you are absolutely correct.
True that's my problem too
I didn't watch that show in awhile, but I'm pretty sure the clothes tearing thing happened to the guys as well...

And as a girl with literally just c cups, it still hurts your back. If half of these girls were real, they wouldn't be able to move

Like for fan service can be mostly anything if it’s framed as fan service
So I don’t get why any girl who has a bit of skin showing is automatically fan service
In my oppinion fan service dosn't antomatically have to be sexual or even sexy.
To me fan service is simply showing the fans what they want to see, an example would be having Godzilla and Gamera being in the same movie. Many film buffs (myself included) would love to see that.
Wow, I totally agree, as an cartoonist and cartoon fan I have been noticed thing like:
Characters have smaller thighs, no breasts, and some wearing shirts instead of their original outfit which might show skin.
Oh and, I don't mind if sex appeal is absolutely common or normal in said medium. If that's the purpose, then I got no problem with it.
