Hamadan rugs represent the city of Hamadan as well as the villages that surround the city. With over 1500 villages surrounding the city, a lot of variations were made in the design of these rugs.
Hamadan rugs are made of 100% wool pile and a cotton foundation, however, there are older Hamadan rugs with a wool foundation.
City Hamadan rugs are made from the workshops so these rugs are more luxurious, use a lot of floral designs and different background colors like yellow, and have a higher knot density. The workshop of Yousef Zanzjani is a famous workshop in the City.
Village Hamadan rugs on the other hand are smaller-sized mostly with geometric designs, and medium knot density, and use the typical red, blue, and cream colors.
Golfarang is a famous design of Hamadan rugs but you'll also see floral, medallion, medallion-and-corner, and Herati designs.
