Actually, Chen is not a CBA player or a pro basketball player, he is a professional "dunker". Somehow he got a wild card to be invited for anticipating the CBA dunk contest. Chen lost a little bit of jumping ability because of his age, he could do more difficult dunk when he was young. Back to the robbed title problem, the main reason is the judges are all old coaches, except Stephon Mabury and a sponsor, the coaches are reluctant to honor an irrelevant guy who comes from nowhere. Btw, the final dunk contest champion is also the MVP of the rookie game, even though his team lost. That s part of the CBA making promising star project, which makes the whole weekend pretty weird.

It is actually very conscious to give the award to Zhang. As a Chinese, throughout our basketball history, there hasn't been a single local player that is above 6'9 demonstrated such incredulous vertical jumping ability and athletism; the last big man we praised about his athletism was Yi Jianlian, his dunks were obviously much less visually flexible and powerful than Zhang, though he got the name "Space Yi".
Talking about Chen, he is certainly a top pro dunker in the country, but we've seen a lot of Chinese pro dunkers in his size are able to accomplish dunks as same or even higher levels. Comparatively, Zhang is apparently the more unique and excited one.
BTW you should go and have a look at Zhang's other dunks or posters in game in interested, sure you'll be amazed for what an asian big man can do.
