The mother tree is probably growing in compacted soil. You could try thinning the fruit on the mother tree when the fruit first starts to develop to see if the remaining fruit is larger and oval.
Thanks for your suggestions, unfortunately the mother tree does not belong to me. I agree with you that I have the feeling that mother tree has the ability to produce lots of fruits. If fewer fruits are produced by the mother tree, the fruits might be bigger.
I think air layering produces fruits faster than grafted plants. I grafted 3 loquat plants last year and none of them fruit. I got scions from 20 years old loquat plant.
Yes, kind of I have the same feeling. BTW, are you sure the mother loquat tree you got scions from can bloom and produce fruits? Generally, people would say you will probably wait 1 or 2 years to get fruits from grafted plants. Good luck with your grafts. I am going to do grafting on my loquat tree sometime this year.
