I will trade with you, a roll of aerochrome for some red hot pics of me. I am disturbingly red, and I don't know why. The offer is limited time only, until my doctor picks up the phone.
Can you even buy (without military grade budgets) high res infrared cameras that are this good? Or is it some sort of near IR filter on a regular camera that bleeds into IR a bit
@@dafbloggs7376 to my knowledge, high resolution IR camers are quite expensive. Even lower resolution one are too (see Flir) but only because they're used as visual temperature measuring tools ratger than to make images. Modern cameras are all natively sensitive to IR to some degree but a filter is added in the manufacturing process to stop that. On some cameras you can have the filter removed with the so called "full spectrum mod" which is likely what Jason's using here. It's the same camer he used to take the digital aerochrome photo he shows near the end. He did a whole video about the camera conversion and editing process at some point, definitely worth a watch
@@dafbloggs7376You can get full spectrum conversions of stock cameras, essentially removing the hot filter from the sensor, sometimes even replacing them with IR-only-pass filter, and optionally combined with scraping the Bayer matrix color filter from the sensor.
@@dafbloggs7376 It's a consumer mirrorless camera with a full-spectrum conversion and an IR filter. It can be done to most mirrorless cameras for a price.
The whole video being infrared is a thing of beauty! One of the nicest videos to watch. Pink trees are lovely and all, but the blue water on that 5:29 shot took my breath away.
I feel like at this point only crimes would make Kodak bring back aerochrome. Or maybe we need to ask Harman to go that route next. (Watching this video naked btw)
Shooting this video is black and white infrared so we are forced to only see the colours when you show each aerochrome shot was a brilliant stylistic choice Jason
Hell yeah! Love the use of the black and white infrared video, very unique look and adds to the surprise when you see the developed photo. One thing you could try is using the digital infrared cam to meter for Aerochrome/EIR shots. I did this one time when I brought the RB67 out for a long hike, realized it was overcast and not sunny as I'd expected, and stubbornly decided to shoot anyway rather than wait for a better day. It's a bit slower, and it's not perfectly 1-1 because digital sensors are sensitive to a slightly wider range of the near infrared spectrum than Aerochrome, but I don't know how many stops of light difference this would translate to in practice; in any case, the shots came out well exposed. You just want to make sure both cameras are using the same or fairly similar filters.
The over exposure could be from the fact that there just might have been more infrared light on the day compared to the other days you’ve shot Aerochrome
I swear every time i try something new in my photography you post about it. The day I got my rollieflex you posted about one and I just got a roll of the lomography fake aerochrome back today
On shooting expired slide film, from what I've been told and what I've experimented with myself, overexposing one stop and pulling in the first developer stage only by reducing time by about 20% (and keeping the rest of the development process the same) seems to be pretty reliable for avoiding some of the base fog issue with old slide film. It's not a perfect solution, and I haven't tried anything more than one stop, but it helps a little bit anyway! No idea if it'd be a different case with infrared slide film, though.
Nice photos. All my slide film is expired and in my fridge. I cross process all my slide film. Even my Tungsten slide film. I do that for color shifts and a certain aesthetic. And when I do an art show show many think I did it in photoshop.
Is it possible that infrared light and visible light don’t correlate? Like, the scene has less visible light but more infrared light somehow? That way, your meter would for sure give you a false reading for IR
Genuine question Jason; when asked on the pod about Lomo Purple, you said basically you haven't seen anyone's work with it that has been improved by the use of the purple - what's the different with the colours here? Apart from the cost...
this might be a controversial take, but with film this rare i think one should make absolutely sure in advance that they understand how to meter correctly.
Hey remember when I said I now live in a fort made of HP5 boxes?? Well I added an addition to it out back with some porta400 and cinestill 800t boxes. Probably going to put it on the market soon! 👊🏼
Even my dog knows you should bracket multiple shots when using expired film of unknown origins. This could be a new look though. #toastedaerochrome Love the filming in IR
can we get a video on your thoughts using the IR filters from vsco to continue the series of how to get aerochrome “like” images without shooting aerochrome ?
Love this vid. I really really would love to know how you shot the video in Infrared? Or a filter or a lut? Please share how you did that. Addicted to your channel. 🙏✌🏻
I know it's sacrilegious, but I find infrared film to be too much of an arse ache and shoot with a full spectrum converted Olympus EP2-L digital body, and then change to different value NM filters. The Aerochrome look and many others are easy to achieve, and the cost is super low as you know.
Hey Jason, Chernobyl didn't actually blow up - a good thing if you live over here - though your trip with aerochrome would make a good photo video for Steely Dan's King of the World (as far as I know).
Good thing I saved 2 more rolls so we can make a 3rd video shooting it together. BAM! ALSO, Bridge + Mountain shot was insane!

hey arent you that guy from that thing
I am so down for that comb!! Would love to watch a video like that!!
You man of culture Peter👍🏼 respect
my first comment on youtube ever: yes please
Jason doing research on the most expensive roll of 120 he ever held only after he shot it is the very definition of this channel
Not using a tripod with that roll seems insane to me. He really is the Criss Angel of photography youtubers.
(DISCLAIMER! I watched the video naked.)
The video being shot on infrared is *chefs kiss*

Man went film, digital and back to film like some sort of UA-camr
Man just does what Baxter tells him
@@stevetrapped2823 it's never a good sign when someone's "just following orders"
It’s cool to see a digital user try some film every now and then
jason harkonnen looking like he'll take over my film spice trade
Peter McKinnon hasn’t called me back after that passionate night in Autumn in 2013
TSA's best and brightest keeping us safe!!!
I love he IR styled footage a lot, really good look for the video
The whole video being infrared is a thing of beauty! One of the nicest videos to watch.
Pink trees are lovely and all, but the blue water on that 5:29 shot took my breath away.
Peter McKinnon sent me a ransom note...
You either die a hero, or stay long enough to become the villain
The person that walked in the frame was my cousin. This is the last sighting of him. Jason please release him, we want him home.
I feel like at this point only crimes would make Kodak bring back aerochrome. Or maybe we need to ask Harman to go that route next.

Love the fact that the whole video is shot in IR too.
I found your channel through Peter McKinnon's video. I'm so thankful he posted and shouted you out!
This man can make a good UA-cam video 🙂
This was super cool and I still think all of these photos are still so awesome
I sat, naked, fascinated by this video. Many thanks, Jason.
pouring out a can of flaming hot mountain dew for the aerochrome
Ohmygod those pinks and blues. What a fantastic combination. Great stuff!
12:10 how did you know?! HOW?!
Peter McKinnon should apologize for wasting budget Goslings time.
this isnt harmon phoenix 120 wtf
The IR video is sooo good - lots of keepers in there 😉

Wow the infrared video is stunning
Dune lookin ass infra intro. Love it.
Love the black and white video contrasting with the photos. Sick idea.

So basically, a video about how Jason shat the bed shooting a film stock he’s supposed to be expert on
I literally tear up when I see the vid. Great video!!
Always glad for a new episode ❤
I totally get the what and the how, but the why of those colors eludes me. Very cool video.
Only time I'm going @ss up is when Grainydays drops a new video!
and then there was me who metered the only Aerochrome roll I have using my phone
Possibly the last unexposed roll of 120 Aerochrome in the world, and now look at it.

@grainydaysss I’ve shoot it in pass myself too, and either had it processed or did it myself C41. I used the alternative low temperature 80-ish F
Are the shutter times of your Hasselblad still correct?

The whole video being shot in Infrared for an Aerochrome video ? GODDAYMN I guess the Flaming Hot Mountain Dew was worth it after all.
There are literally like 10 people on the planet who could pull this off. Exceptional results and you did it with style!
I think you did a Great job 👍
Last roll of this I shot was at 400 the other roll is Chilling for one day 🖖
Wait is this footage shot with an R72 filter???
Peter and aerochrome atst, gotta say dreams can really come true man
Give us that bridge mountain shot to buy as prints
Me watching the video while taking a shower 🤨
Man those shots were sick
can someone explain ttl doubling filter compensation? i thought the meter just took into acc the loss of light from the filter?
yeah, i never had that problem before. he should have had his camera meter and speeds checked before shooting this film.
