Aw, no mention of Eye-Tee's freakout when you bring her into the tunnel run? It was the highlight of the game for me, the realistic human reaction to being dragged along for some ABSOLUTE LUNACY you can't talk your way out of. Well, it was the _fun_ highlight of the game. The other highlight was Woodward's ceasefire being denied and all the contacts reappearing on my HUD. I haven't felt like such a horrible piece of abject trash in a video game since Spec Ops The Line. Who would've thought the funny plane game could pull off such an unmitigated gut punch?
I cut a lot of things I'd like to talk about for flow + time, but yeah, Eye-Tee's meltdown is definitely the highlight of Express Lane. Agreed on the ceasefire. The longer I think about it, the more I think Magadan Front might be my favorite mission across both campaigns.
Honestly the ceasefire being denied makes sense. Idk about the details but based on a discussion on reddit, apperantly no war crimes were commited on that mission and well, where will the Cascadians go? That is right, to Cascadia to continue fighting you there where you are already struggling and Federation didn't want that.
@@8th_Sparrow_Sqn It's not so much that it's not a strategically sound or rational call as it is that we're fighting against Woodward and the Cascadians, who we know from the main game. Like, we aren't just wholesale slaughtering enemies, we're wholesale slaughtering our _allies_ from the other campaign. We know Woodward to be a decent, reasonable person and so when his decent, reasonable ceasefire request is rejected, followed by the words 'kill them all', it feels _bad._ Especially given that the Cascadians are already leaving. Our original objective (chase the Cascadians off of Magadan) is achieved. They're going, they're in a full retreat. Mission 5 in a nutshell. Woodward: "Hey our invasion isn't going so well, do you mind letting us leave so we can fight other federation forces somewhere else?" The federation, who was invaded after cascadia chased retreating transports over the Bering Strait to kill all of them: "No."

Magadan Front still hits me in the guts even after multiple times. You were hoping that this mission is over but then..even you as a player immediately turn around and start killing everything. One of the best experiences for me in Gaming and it is all with a well done voice acting
Regarding Magadan Front, it's not exactly an overly cruel or uncommon thing taking place on that battlefield. The Cascadians asked to stop hostilities temporarily, so that these soldiers that ruined Magadan could go back to Cascadia and kill fellow countrymen of the people they are asking to cease hostilities. They asked to allow them to retreat, but they never forfeited, hence why CK decided to proceed with hostilities. Otherwise, Federation would be just shooting itself in the foot.
I appreciate the perspective. There's another comment I agree with that pointed out that the events of Magadan Front feel bad less because K-9 does a Bad Thing, but because K-9 is engaged against the "good guys" that we know from the main campaign. It's something I hadn't considered when I was writing this video, but I think it's a smart way to look at the events of the mission.
I'm happy that they gave us a Federation stand-in for Prez in Frontline-59. That it's not just some generic unnamed NPC. And the lines when you drag her along for the tunnel-run is amazing, given how in the briefing the rest of the squad go "nope" at the prospect of following you through there. That despite the higher-ups telling you to do it alone, "Driver" (you the pilot) still decide they want to bring their WSO along for the ride. Perhaps Monarch has a long-lost brother in the Federation. But not gonna lie, I thought it was possible to sink the "Eminent Domain" in Home Invasion. I mean, I was able to get a lock on it and fire MLAG and ASM at it. That it was a secret target you could take out. Then again, that would mess with the plot of the main game.
After playing Frontline-59, I can say that the Federation is innocent. Cascadia, as was proven here, drove them to do what they did. And I know they will pay. Pax Federation.
Fun fact: on the timeline, Faust's Bossfight takes place at the same time Consequences of power does You can even see the Cordium cruise-missiles moving towards Prospero after you kill faust if you stay with the rest of K-9.
Imo the thing about the Magadan Front is that you didn't cross the line into butcher territory. The Cascadians aren't surrendering. They want to go back home to fight the war there, while literally saying it's no use to fight them with the rather strong implication that it's because they're going to win anyway. They have the option to surrender. They do not, and choose to fight to the last to the point of doing things like suicide bombing the Feds. They aren't asking for peace, they're trying to "eto bleh" their way home after being the butchers. It's just another part of the role reversal: the Cascadians are giving the nice version of a "we'll be back!" villain line. You get to do the mean version of a heroic "not so fast!" in response.
Yep, I definitely see the line of thinking here. If I could upload an edit to a video, it'd probably be to say that Magadan Front is... complicated. K-9's actions feel worse than they strictly speaking are since a player who's already played the main game (i.e. me) probably has some biases in favor of Cascadia. Thanks for sharing the perspective!
@@serothel No problem! I think that Project Wingman is a very interesting series when it comes to dealing with biases, because a lot of the 'truth' gets hidden in nuggets and implications and in the codex lol I, however, am also very biased, because when I looked into all that stuff and a lot more of Cascadia's dark grays were revealed to me, it left me feeling gravely unsatisfied with the game since it's there but never truly addressed. So for me, someone who wasn't really jiving with Cascadia being the brave heroes very rarely on the backfoot against the Federation, this was very cathartic.
I really like the Faust boss fight, it feels suitably insane for a game that's all about you being actually the best. Ace Combat's 1v1 duels (outside of 0) often feel like they don't quiteee have the punch and spectacle for how much the narrative gasses up your pilot.
I know there’s no reason to do it game play wise, but when the cascadians were trying to evacuate, I just “missed” my UGB load on the neutral landers… also Eye-T has such an out of pocket line at the end with “your children will be a part of the federation!” Is such a wild and almost gross line to think about.
In terms of soundtrack I think it's complicated when it comes to Frontline 59. In the end I think some of the treacks dethrone some of my big 4 from the original game (Peacekeeper, Showdown, Presidia, and the undisputed champion Kings) but the fact that there are less songs overall gives the DLC a higher ratio of absolute bangers than the base game. In the end though Jose Pavli is Jose Pavli and both have some of the best in game tracks bar none.
I don't think denied ceasfire request was meant to show Feds as butchers, but rather show how delusional Cascadians became - Woodward seems to believe so much in his moral superiority here that even after all they did feels entitled to request an unconditional ceasfire, knowing full wheel that upon returning to Cascadia he'll keep fighting there. There's no way any sane commander would've agreed on that nor do they have to, unless it's a complete surrender, but Woodward is unwilling to ask for surrender to save people's lives on the shore. And Federation simply did what they had to - they didn't let enemy go to save more lives of their comrades in Cascadia, they had zero incentives to do otherwise.
I appreciate the perspective! I agree with the assessment that the PacFed actions on the ground make sense since the CIF forces hadn't fully surrendered.
It's on my list of games I dread talking about for one reason or another but want to cover (in SOTL's case it's that I think the discourse has beaten the game to death)
@@WGabor It's one of those games that I feel like has been talked to death so much that I'm not sure what I could say about it that hasn't already been said. It's similar to the reason I don't plan to talk about Titanfall 2; I love it, but you could watch Shammy and Raycevick's videos on the game and rest assured knowing everything I would have said was covered in one of those two videos.
@@serothel Oh, I see. Yeah it's hard to deny that the game has been debated over and over. There are many opinions about it and many videos. I've personally saw a lot. Sadly I haven't played it at that time, so I just spoilered it for myself. Then I got to it and I understood everything that they were saying about the game. I am still mad that I looked up these videos that discussed the topic before I had experienced it myself. Now if there is something like this, like a game that I am interested in, I try to stay away from any sorts of videos or articles that could spoil the game for me. I had done this with Dark Souls 3 and I am so thankful I did it without spoiling it entirelly. I saw something that interested me, I played the game to that point and only THEN looked into it. I just noticed how much I wrote, sorry for all this nonsense, i hope it can be understood
Another thing you didn't mentioned in this update and was added with the Frontline 59 dlc on pc was big ally IA improvement, I'm not joking, Day 1 the AI wasn't doing shit and seems to always missed shot on purpose to make you the ace pilot shooting down everything, that was annoying especially when every enemy is focus on you and your teammates can't give you a break, same in Conquest mode, having the entire air fleet was only made to drive fire from big ships away from you. With this update the AI really feel like you're fighting alongside real pilots, they get way more kill than before and can easily deal with even ships or airships. In conquest mode what was before your kinda shield is now your best way to finish mission way quicker because they can obliterate enemy airships with ease, enough to get half of the points you need for reaching goal in score mission alone. Combine with Cold War mission ost popping from time to time it's epic, seeing enemy ships falling out of the sky, sometime even two at once
The feds denying Woodwards request was not as bad as people might think. In war a retreating enemy is still a valid threat and is a legitimate target. Woodward wanted to be allowed to retreat, and if the feds allowed that then a good chunk of hardened Cascadian marines would return to resist them back home. Now if Woodward had said that all Indep forces on the coast would surrender and the feds said nah execute them all then it'd be totally fucked.
Frontline is better than base game imo, not by huge leaps but it's noticeable how the devs improved wish there were more missions, I really like the lore in this game :)
Magadan Front is not a massacre. Woodward didn't offer to surrender. "Hey federation, do you mind not annihilating all of the manpower and materiel we haven't been able to evacuate from your shores so we can throw them against you back in Cascadia?" If he offered anything of value (maybe a stolen, state of the art battleship currently in theater) then maybe he'd get his ceasefire and the denial might reflect a little worse on Crystal Kingdom.
I didnt think much of F59 sadly, Faust needed more developing as she just comes off as cookie cutter. The backloading criticism is something I agree with, in my personal opinion. 4/6 missions just play the same as another mission from the base game with just less plane variety.
I felt this way about the main game.... Come on.... The best two seat fighter we get in the DLC is the F14. I still beat the entire campaign using it. But still.
My only hate of the dlc is the goddamn mandatory tunnel section. Eytee freaking out almost made all my crashes to the cave wall worth it, almost. Other than that the DLC's pretty good with the whole 'bleak' and 'you'll do as you're told cause in the federation you are all expendables' atmosphere. Love that they also expanded about the mercenary culture and their 'Signature', the only thing dirty Feds aces feared. Still angry they didn't add more two seaters plane though. I want to fly new planes with Prez, damn it.
if theres one thing that i will laud PW for, its the fact that it can make me irrationally take an objectively worse aircraft because it means i have an extra voice in my ear and feel a connection to a character i haven't even seen the face of moreso than anything else i've felt in a game. i swear there is no character that makes me as feral as prez and the only one that comes moderately close is eye-tee. i dont understand, and any attempt to understand leaves me empty handed and questioning what led me here
Honestly the new musics dont attract me so far, and regarding the good guy bad guy stuff, Cascadians easily still the good guys here, the fact that we're playing as the reservist doesnt change the fact that the Federation nuked Cascadia
The only person who can upstage Jose Pavli is Jose Pavli

I think that Project Wingman is a very interesting series when it comes to dealing with biases, because a lot of the 'truth' gets hidden in nuggets and implications and in the codex lol
I, however, am also very biased, because when I looked into all that stuff and a lot more of Cascadia's dark grays were revealed to me, it left me feeling gravely unsatisfied with the game since it's there but never truly addressed.
Would you like some jazz to go along with your horrible war crimes? Then you’ll love Frontline 59.
Pax Federation
I'm ngl man I thought you had some kind of heart attack or got hit by a bus
I got better 🙏
He fucking did it
4:30 hell yeah!
I know there’s no reason to do it game play wise, but when the cascadians were trying to evacuate, I just “missed” my UGB load on the neutral landers… also Eye-T has such an out of pocket line at the end with “your children will be a part of the federation!” Is such a wild and almost gross line to think about.
Does anyone know the soundtrack at 15:10?
World on Fire, Jose Pavli
I've never been so blindsided by a star rail mention
Edit: I looked up the voice actor list. I understand now.
5:31 I’ve GOT to play more Citrus flying game!!!
10/10 opening. Never forget sec oops the line
I've never been happier to get auto-corrected
Bro remembered his UA-cam password
When I see the nuke blows off and the cloud moved, i said the same thing as punish "venom" snake
cascadia did nothing wrong
General Faust frustrated none of her fancy weapons hit me, and finding the best method to kill me is ramming Driver and Eye-tea with her airship.
Cant wait for the sequel😊
I need to go pester FAN and ask him who the hell did the provisional officer. I love that guy. Stole the damn show.
You weren't too shabby yourself, Captain ;)
In terms of soundtrack I think it's complicated when it comes to Frontline 59. In the end I think some of the treacks dethrone some of my big 4 from the original game (Peacekeeper, Showdown, Presidia, and the undisputed champion Kings) but the fact that there are less songs overall gives the DLC a higher ratio of absolute bangers than the base game. In the end though Jose Pavli is Jose Pavli and both have some of the best in game tracks bar none.
yes, more two seaters please
Project Wingman: The Line
(Oh man spec ops was... dang... something else. Although I am interested in your opinion about it)
It's on my list of games I dread talking about for one reason or another but want to cover (in SOTL's case it's that I think the discourse has beaten the game to death)
@serothel what is SOTL's case?
Well. He uploaded. I can't make fun of him not uploading for the next couple months.
We need more cowbell
The feds denying Woodwards request was not as bad as people might think. In war a retreating enemy is still a valid threat and is a legitimate target. Woodward wanted to be allowed to retreat, and if the feds allowed that then a good chunk of hardened Cascadian marines would return to resist them back home.
Now if Woodward had said that all Indep forces on the coast would surrender and the feds said nah execute them all then it'd be totally fucked.
1:38 and old dialogue bugs are back
Hopefully someone makes a mod to bring back the orange
Frontline is better than base game imo, not by huge leaps but it's noticeable how the devs improved
wish there were more missions, I really like the lore in this game :)
Downloaded it a few days ago on steam, and havent been able to play because it doesnt recognise my Hotas Warthog. Any ideas guys?
But still.
So, Project Wingman prequel taking place in oceania? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Will we ever get projectwingman 2 ?
My only hate of the dlc is the goddamn mandatory tunnel section. Eytee freaking out almost made all my crashes to the cave wall worth it, almost. Other than that the DLC's pretty good with the whole 'bleak' and 'you'll do as you're told cause in the federation you are all expendables' atmosphere. Love that they also expanded about the mercenary culture and their 'Signature', the only thing dirty Feds aces feared.
Still angry they didn't add more two seaters plane though. I want to fly new planes with Prez, damn it.
You might want to do more videos if you don’t want people to associate you with flight action games
if theres one thing that i will laud PW for, its the fact that it can make me irrationally take an objectively worse aircraft because it means i have an extra voice in my ear and feel a connection to a character i haven't even seen the face of moreso than anything else i've felt in a game.
i swear there is no character that makes me as feral as prez and the only one that comes moderately close is eye-tee. i dont understand, and any attempt to understand leaves me empty handed and questioning what led me here
Honestly the new musics dont attract me so far, and regarding the good guy bad guy stuff, Cascadians easily still the good guys here, the fact that we're playing as the reservist doesnt change the fact that the Federation nuked Cascadia
*Blaze*
The federation did nothing wrong
God Shammy fell off so hard
Is it the videos or the...other stuff?
@ both
Ayo, Serothel uploaded a new video!
