We sure do. My observations and interactions seem to show that a large proportion of New Zealand drivers are aggressive, pushy and reckless. A lot of our rural and main highways lack safety features you’d find in US freeways or European A road designs. I personally don’t ride my bike on open, 50 kmph+ roads here. Too risky😳
@@BikeDispatchyep, we’re not very civilised, lots of growing up to do as a nation. Never ride near Ute drivers especially! They seem to have chips on both shoulders towards everyone!
@@jacobwinn2765 Yeah what’s with ute drivers, especially early like 6am!😳Since I shot this video I think things have improved in terms of cycling safety which is positive😀Thanks for your feedback.
Great video showing what bike commuting is like in Auckland. Just curious why you chose this route instead of taking the Waterview path to the Northwestern path and avoid those busy roads almost entirely? Is it much quicker this way? Some typical Auckland drivers in this vid aye.
Thanks for sharing. Been wanting to ride going to work but I'm not that confident. Are you wearing bright colour/visibility vest? Side mirror can be very useful on busy road. Keep safe.
You should, I can't recommend it enough! I used to wear high visibility clothing but ditched it for lighting. It does help though. I have never used mirrors because I reckon I'd break it in 5 minutes. I just try and keep my head on a pivot, looking around. In terms of building confidence, the cycle paths are great to practice on. Stay safe out there!
Feels like you add on a lot of extra distance (and more opportunities for conflict with cars) by going up Onehunga etc. WHy not just carry on up Hendry Ave and then along Dominion ?
I have ridden that route a few times. All I can say is that I tend to gravitate towards Cornwall Park and Newmarket just because it’s visually better with more foot traffic and commuter activity. Perhaps it’s a camera thing📸📸 My latest commute vid illustrates my most direct route - I’ll try Dom Rd again and film it though…👍🏻Thanks for feedback👍🏻
@@BikeDispatch Fair enough. They are upgrading Hendry Avenue at the moment - think its due to be finished mid July. Could be worth checking out once done! Dom Road when the bus lanes are running is great - excellent footage streaming past a line of cars
Sure is. I usually switch off the motor and glide back downhill from central Auckland around Cornwall Park to Onehunga. That saves 5-6 km worth of battery juice for each commute. All adds up.
Like other people have stated you nearly got knocked off a couple of times. I really think you should make yourself as bright as possible in the clothing area. One small light isn't going to make you more visible to drivers. Wear a high viz at least. You seem like you have dark clothing on. Good video though, just found your channel 😁
Buddy I've biked Auckland for 45 years. nice work But... You nearly got wasted how many times?. See stats on e bike injuries is the 'States. For me that would be a 90 minute commute at half the speed, on busy roads mostly on the footpath (where if you travel at 10-15 km/h the cops leave you alone) happy that I don'r need to go to a gym. I want to see your wet weather gear. Have you been struck by lightning yet?, I have and if you are serious about bike commuting it is a real risk. Good luck and keep safe
Oh you got me there, I’m not really sure. Mount Eden Cycles, Rouleur Cycles in Onehunga. Local social media operators are probably the best for retro fixers. T White Bikes too. Good luck.
The Remuera tractor school transporter?! 🤣 happens a lot. Crazy eh. I use a flashing bike headlight during daylight and twin red flashing lights for my six o’clock. One on my bag and the other on the seat stem.
I think the did saw but wanted to cut in front. Such bad and dangerous driving behaviour. And it happened more than once in one commute. These drivers need a chat from the police
It's called Vidometer. I use a spare iPhone to record the ride. I found it conflicts a bit with other apps. In the editing I crop and resize it. Does the job.
Thanks, this is handy as I'm planning my commute to work and am still building my confidence on busy Auckland roads
Cheers😀That’s the way, planning routes and testing riding them👍good luck🙏
You've got some dangerous drivers out there!!!!

Yoooo I've been to that place at the start and all we wanted was to have fish and chips for dinner but we got lost 🤣

Is there an active On-And-Off switch? I mean it would give you more mileage if you only switch on only when there is an uphill.

Please suggest me some good bike shop in Auckland

That black People Carrier that pulled out in front of you (24.55) didn't even see you. Do you use flashing lights during the day?

No courtesy from that grey vehicle 🤨
Not much! It seems as the cycle paths develop driver awareness is improving but there’s still daily occurrences like that to contend with.
What map app do you use?

whats the bike pwoer?
250 kw, Bosch Performance CX and a 500wh battery. I'd get another battery for it today if I could but tricky to source.
Love ur bike I’m looking for a e-bike ,love watching ur videos I’m from Auckland too
Hey thanks for that! I’ll keep making more🚴♀️
