  • Notorious frat-boy Scott Bowden, the nephew of Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden, calls for Randy Hales to suspend Jerry Lawler for throwing a fireball at his FSU Starter jacket. When Hales refuses, things get ugly. Notice how increasingly upset announcer Dave Brown gets every time Bowden says "retarded." For more information on the history of Memphis wrestling, check out

One of the funniest studio brawls in the history of Memphis Wrestling. Travis Scott Bowden, serves your right! He and Randy Hales like two little boys fighting in the school playground. I couldn't stop laughing while this fight was on.

Why is Dave Brown sticking up for Jonesboro, Arkansas? All Scott Bowden is doing is telling the truth about Randy Hales and the people of Jonesboro, and for some unknown reason Dave Brown has a fit. I thought that Brown must have been born in Jonesboro, but it turns out that Brown was born in Trenton, Tennessee. This is an unexplained mystery. Thank you Scott Bowden for telling the truth about Randy Hales and Jonesboro, Arkansas.

That Jonesboro thing is true. I knew a family from there, they were one glass-eyed slack-jawed banjo playing kid away from being the Texas Chainsaw family.

This is the infamous promo Scott Bowden mentioned on the recent 6:05 Superpodcast. Dave Brown actually called Scott out after the show.

Do you know about when in the interview it is? I just checked out that podcast and it's a little over 4 hours long. Not asking for an exact time but is it near the beginning, end? Then again, I might just listen to the whole thing when I have time. Both these guys are easy to listen to.

I don't have an exact time, but it is early in the show.

Thanks. And thanks for mentioning that podcast. Had not heard of it. Scott is doing his own podcast now with that guy, The Kentucky Fried Rasslin' podcast. Episode 2 is dropping today. They use lots of old clips from Memphis wrestling.

I worked as a cameraman on TV5 wrestling during the USWA/Powerpro years and let me tell you Dave Brown isn't kidding at all. Half the audience in the studio is special needs/handicapped and Dave loved those loyal fans. Dave cuts him off but Randy is the man to take care of business! Just one of many, many times when the events you see live in the studio are not faked or rehearsed in anyway.

@ChannelExtreme I am telling you what happened because I was there that day. Scott stepped way over Dave Brown's line, and Dave absolutely had the last word. As far as practiced and rehearsed? Absolutely not. A show's shot sheet or "rundown" might state "Randy runs out" but just as often it was spontaneous, especially with Randy Hale involved. Even having a rundown in front of me, I was clueless where the action would break out. Good times!

Unfortunately Scott is no longer in the business (he works PR/advertising in L.A.), but if you have a Twitter account you can follow him at KFriedRasslin. Also, check out his blog (link is on his Twitter page). His Twitter and blog posts do not disappoint. Still the same old Scott.

I don't know if this was staged or not, seems kind of legit, Anyway it's more entertaining than that crap WWE is offering right now. And also is the man who was trying to break it up in the salmon colored jacket the late great Guy Coffey?

@InfiniteHollywood I'm exaggerating when I say half the crowd, but there was always a group that was brought in as a regular Saturday activity from a local special needs care facility.

@ChannelExtreme Another example that hopefully someone will remember or have footage: Mr. Coffee and Lawler had so much trouble with Randy that they told him not to come back. 3 weeks later he shows up at the backdoorduring the show, disheveled, unshaved, shirt like he slept in it, demanding his job back. During a break they talked for 1 min, then had the rest of the negotiation live on the air. Kicked out of his trailer, broke, it was all real and on live TV. The one and only Memphis wrestling.

  • @InfiniteHollywood

@nitrousn2o The crowd there that day clearly wasn't special needs. As USWA went on the crowd become increasingly, well, yeah, you can hear them. It wasn't the crowds of kids and old folks that it had been before.

If there were just a little bit of a change in the script of that wrestling promotion instead of randy hales how about if Scott Bowden insulted James e cornete by agreeing with Bill watts by calling him a sissy and they staring to rip each other's clothes and into a ballfght with no rules
