Am 46 and didn't really grow up with bikes, so I don't always gel with retro bike looks, but some of them are great and I'd definitely have one of these, looks good, sounds good, goes like stink. Perfect 👌🏻
I rode a mates RD500 in the day,I had a 2 stroke suzuki kettle750. The yamaha was utterly frightening just in the way the power band was. 2 strokes are fantastically easy to maintain in my view. No valves. Carb and reed valve and your done. Sweet looking bike chop set. My Nephew had an xsr as first big bike( a London banker) yes it was stolen and he’s given up living where he lives. That body kit is bloody amazing
Just them power valves needing frequent attention if you don't ring the bike's neck often enough which is, as you say, quite frightening on a RD500 when they hit their powerband.
As an old bloke it looks great...a brilliant retro with more than enough power and more comfortable than a full on sports bike.. Great video always entertaining ...
I absolutely adore the 80´s aesthetics. I'm currently riding an -88 Kawasaki in that same colour (my beginner bike) and it has so much of the same looks. If I was in the market for a new bike, that would be on of my top choices.
Great review as always. First bike I ever road was my friends RD250 followed by RD350lc absolutely love the RD series. This one looks amazing and a real head turner. Wow.
Looks great Chopsy , at first glance I defo thought it was a rd500 😮👍👍 I had one in '87 same colour as this one ,ended up repainted in the white and orange Marlboro colours after a few offs 😁 great review .👍
Your enthusiasm always does you credit Chopsy 🙂👍 if bikes don't give you that excited buzz, then it's time for pipe, slippers and mobile commode ! I think it looks gorgeous ❤
I absolutely love the looks of the xsr-500rd yam. Personally I like the fact that the swingarm is that bit longer, I’m not a boring rider but wheelies ain’t my bag. Great review Chopsy.
Yes I agree think it looks great. The first XSR's had such a short swingarm that the front wheel came up so quick in 1st gear - it was catching new riders out.
Just looked at the website, YES YES PLEASE! The Kenny Roberts and the Gauloises editions are epic! In fact, IMHO, the livery you rode doesn't do it any justice compared to the other paint jobs. Even the RD BLUE WHITE edition is striking
You brought back great memories of watching Kenny Robert’s racing , and that’s a beautiful rendition of track bikes of we all wanted Thanks Chopsy , now if it were a 2 stroke
Great review of a lovely bike Chopsy! I had an RD500 and a 350F LC back in the 80s and I'm really tempted by the RD500 lookalike' maybe it's nostalgia but it's a really lovely bike as was the previous RD350 replica, 👍
The best bike i have ever had is the MT09 SP. And when taking in to consideration the price. I love that engine and the fact it is so light works for me at this stage of my life. It just does everything i need, even a little touring this year and not a problem. The XSR is something i may consider in a few years time. For now though it's the MT!
Still loving my 900LC, Hag does a "proper job", that CP3 engine is a peach, powerful and playful and agree on the rear brake its perfect to set you up in a bend, great review Chopsy. Looks amazing , like the 900LC - if Hag could "500" my 2019 I'd be in
This looks fantastic what an excellent job they did of this kit.. love it 😊😊 takes me right back wow.. great review chops.. glad to see this on the channel Pete
Another classic from Hag. I had his 900LC fir 3 years. As great as it was with the suspension and brake upgrades I longed for a proper 2 stroke too much. You can’t replicate the sound, smell and thin powerband. I’ll try and get a Langen in a few years if they become affordable.
I had a lovely fast ride back with an RD500 down country lanes from Box Hill to Charlwood this Sunday. What a lovely noise they make, quite fast on longer straights with enough space to wind it up. I was on my 1290 sdr with my neighbors daughter on the back so did not push him, I just enjoyed the smell and the noise. Back to my youth. The black engine area is an attempt to disguise the four stroke engine I suspect. Gorgeous bike, Yamaha are gonna sell plenty I suspect. Myself as if anybody cares it has to be a Triumph Rocket III next
Hag is a bit of a genius when it comes to these kits. I've still got my LC900 based on the old XSR900 that looks like the RD350LC. Definitely worth the money. Velocity-Moto's work and paint is excellent and if anyone's thinking of dealing direct with Velocity-Moto, I can recommend the experience.
Im sure I commented on this video earlier but I can't find my comment now. I must be going mad. Anyway since then ive now wasted my morning watching all 3 of your velocity moto videos. As a lover of 80s 2 strokes and a TZR250 owner all three look brilliant but expensive if you buy the bikes new with the kit fitted. Shame about the black fiberglass on the inside and the round light in a square hole on this one. My favourite is the XSR900 with the yellow RD350 kit but all look fantastic to me.Thanks for reviewing all of these Chopsy and for making my Saturday morning 👍
I shared your video with a mate and he got back to me and said "what's familiar about the bike" I replied well it's like the RD500 i had in the 80s, he then pointed out it was much more recent than that, in fact it was at a biker BBQ we were at last year were a fella had a 1980s RD500 but had upgraded it by changing the wheels for R6 wheels and forks plus Brembo brakes, an Ohlins rear shock and Aleser expansion chambers, it also originally had a Stan Stephens stage two tune so it was a thing of beauty, the dogs bollock's and was much lusted after by every old ex stroker owner at the BBQ.
Very cool Chops. It looks amazing. If you added some clip-ons or at least flat bars, upgraded the suspension & front brakes, I bet it would be a fantastic track bike too with that engine. Although possibly too pretty to track it but still.
Personally I love the current xsr900 in the blue and gold, test rode one , I think it’s thing of beauty with a nod to the eighties, the triple is the star of the show👍
Think that looks great. I sold my 1984 RZV500R Yamaha two years ago. Just getting worth to much money to ride happily on the road. A trio to Loomies bike cafè occasionally !!!!!
Personally the original Velocity moto “LC” version can’t be beaten on capturing the visual essence of the 80s ! I wouldn’t kick it out the garage mind 😂 #RetroCool
Looks great, but…..£4000 for a painted kit ! It could still be worth it if you really wanted the look but with the price of a new bike on top you’d really be pushing into some nice bikes price ranges.
I almost purchase on in 1988 but as my 2nd bike after a rd125 thought id be sensible and bought a fz600 instead, loved it at the time but was unfortunately stolen. Probably lucky for me i didnt get a 500 2smoker.
I was really hoping Velocity Moto would do something like this for the new XSR, very tempted. The old 350 kit was lovely but the proportions didn't look quite right, this looks the dog danglies.
Looks great, but the inside of the front fairing should be properly finished with gel coat at the price they are charging. I would not want to spend all my time looking at a large slab of unfinished fibreglass.
That’s sexy as… I’ve got a 2016 XSR900 in garage metal (brushed aluminium) which I’ve styled more toward the scrambler end of the spectrum… I couldn’t let it go to ‘upgrade’ to the new XSR, but a new one with this body kit and a set of clip-ons could be a very nice partner to sit beside it in the garage 🤔🤤
Thats a gorgeous kit. But i have to say, Velocity Moto's kit to turn the XSR700 in to a YPXS also looks great... Now... how to explain to yhe wife I need both... 😂
Wish I had that kind of money. This looks almost better than the Suzuki Katana, but with an actual usable fuel tank size, that allows you to get a bit more range between fuel stops.
With the kit, you would be proud to park, and look back at this Bike. However, with the regular MT-09, the Bike you would never look back at, cause it’s just simply a played out, boring look, with that horrible looking headlight and Bullshit small Cowl. Even the stock XSR (in Blue) is Stunning.
Great video as normal Chopsy and 100% fantastic looking bike. Shame they cannot do it in better material or finish it better to get away from the fibreglass look on the inside. Saying that still a great looking bike.
The iconic looks of the RD. I wonder if you could do the same modifications to a suzuki or Kawasaki middleweight machine.....giving them the RG and KR1S looks? Just a thought. Great video again Chops 👏 😊
I think one of these in the Kenny Roberts yellow or the beautiful Christian Sarron Gauloises blue along with a Kawasaki Z900rs se in the garage [with my 1100 Tuono of course] would be perfect. Seriously tempted with this Velocity Moto Yam. Mmmmmm......
England sure looks like a dangerous place to ride. Skinny roads, no shoulder, blind corners and a lot of vegetation on side of the roads. Scary. Seems like every road ride I watch have these conditions. It is a beautiful place for sure.
I loved the RD350 version but this RD500 kit knock it out of the ring. Shame it's not a genuine Yamaha model with a cheaper price with the option of colour scheme.
I love the look of this bike, but......and it's a BIG BUT, £1870 for the unpainted kit plus an additional £2200 to have it painted is ridiculous considering the original value and depreciation that these bikes suffer with. Honestly I'm a bit gutted that the painted kit is over £4k
About £14,500 for a new bike & a painted fitted kit. that's well worth it. considering I just seen the wide wheel kit from Thornton Hundred Motorcycles cost £10,000 to put on a £13,500 bike and they don't include rear lights, number plate, chain guard! I would have the Kenny Roberts one. what exhaust would you have?
Wow saw that kit they were selling but 10k bloody hell!! 😳 yes I agree 14,500 for a bike which will be unique isn't bad at all. Plus the XSR is such a good platform it will do everything you ever need it too
I’m just past my 66th birthday never wanted a bike with a fairing, especially one that you ride head down backside up ,I know have a Kawasaki SX 1000 love it ,
Would be interesting what the younger generation thinks of it? Me personally at mid 50s is bloody lovely. 👍🏼
It's my dream bike and I'm in my 30s
Am 40 and think it’s mint
I’m fine with the front but the back doesn’t do it for me unfortunately
In my late 20s. I'd buy one in an instant. Shame they don't seem to have a presence in the US.
Am 46 and didn't really grow up with bikes, so I don't always gel with retro bike looks, but some of them are great and I'd definitely have one of these, looks good, sounds good, goes like stink. Perfect 👌🏻
That has to be the best looking Yamaha I have seen for years 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Finally... A modern bike I'd actually consider buying 😍 Says alot about the styling of newer bikes though!
My

Quite the transformation back to my formative motorbiking years; makes for a unique ride. Another informative and entertaining review👍
Just amazing looking kit. Absolutely brilliant! Thanks for showing it off!
As an old bloke it looks great...a brilliant retro with more than enough power and more comfortable than a full on sports bike.. Great video always entertaining ...
Beautiful bike. Retro in the best possible way
I absolutely adore the 80´s aesthetics. I'm currently riding an -88 Kawasaki in that same colour (my beginner bike) and it has so much of the same looks. If I was in the market for a new bike, that would be on of my top choices.
It looks a 1000 times better then the orgininal xsr. This is how it should have looked like from the start!
Great review as always. First bike I ever road was my friends RD250 followed by RD350lc absolutely love the RD series. This one looks amazing and a real head turner. Wow.
Great video Chops, good to see the CP3 getting love on your channel!!
Fantastic isn't it! 👌
Haha thanks Nick 😁👍
Bloody love all of the velocity specials 👌🏽
I absolutely love the looks of the xsr-500rd yam. Personally I like the fact that the swingarm is that bit longer, I’m not a boring rider but wheelies ain’t my bag. Great review Chopsy.
Yes I agree think it looks great. The first XSR's had such a short swingarm that the front wheel came up so quick in 1st gear - it was catching new riders out.
Take note Yamaha this is the bike the XSR should have been. Nice one LCR 👍

I’ll take the slightly duller handling for those looks! 👏🏻
No need….. swap the Mt09’s swing arm onto it!
Still loving my 900LC, Hag does a "proper job", that CP3 engine is a peach, powerful and playful and agree on the rear brake its perfect to set you up in a bend, great review Chopsy. Looks amazing , like the 900LC - if Hag could "500" my 2019 I'd be in
It's absolutely beautiful. I'm with you on the black frame chopsy 👍
Fantastic video - commentary, cinematography, editing and the Velocity kit is a masterpiece. ty
I really like this bike. Looks bloody fantastic. Would be great if it were in the NEC motorcycle show this Nov.
it is. On the Datatool stand
This looks fantastic what an excellent job they did of this kit.. love it 😊😊 takes me right back wow.. great review chops.. glad to see this on the channel Pete
Thank you 🤗
Superb review of a fabulous looking bike!! Sounds great, too! (for a 4-stroke!). Great stuff, LCR!!
The inspiration is before my time, but my goodness, that looks amazing!
Just stunning….. we like velocity, we like them a lot. ❤❤❤
Fantastic isn't it! 👏
I think I’d be tempted to pop a couple of caps worth of Castrol TT in the tank as well, just to add to the experience of the smell.
Another classic from Hag. I had his 900LC fir 3 years. As great as it was with the suspension and brake upgrades I longed for a proper 2 stroke too much. You can’t replicate the sound, smell and thin powerband. I’ll try and get a Langen in a few years if they become affordable.
I own the mk1 XSR900 and love it. Engine is amazing!
Was going to upgrade to the newer one but don't like the looks. This kit looks nice though!
I still hope that this is the direction manufacturers will take when thinking about “retro” inspired bikes.
Yes me too! 👍
I think it will be.

Thanks Chopsy for making me feel 20 years old once again, wow in Kenny Roberts colours please. Definitely a license loser for a old fella like me 👍
Yep.

Yeah that yellow 350 rep was brilliant fun too! 👏
I always wanted a rd500 so seeing the kit on an xsr900 is s big plus.
looks awsome remap the ecu, sc project pipe , swap out for the mt-09 swing arm ....you'll have a very cool piece....great vid
Wow I love it. I have a 2021 zx6r. This might be the next one. 10 less hp. 10 more pounds of torque. What a beast ❤

Personally I love the current xsr900 in the blue and gold, test rode one , I think it’s thing of beauty with a nod to the eighties, the triple is the star of the show👍
what a lovely bike,I agree in Kenny Roberts colours it would pop.Cheers.
Looks fantastic. Terrified of damaging a $2000 + paint FIBERGLASS kit. Would love this for MT-10!!!
Think that looks great.
I sold my 1984 RZV500R Yamaha two years ago. Just getting worth to much money to ride happily on the road. A trio to Loomies bike cafè occasionally !!!!!
£1800 for unpainted fibreglass 🤯 Im oooout !
fully painted and decal’d ABS kit for my old 929 blade £240 delivered & fits perfect …
I paid £400 for a oem painted. Suzuki GS500E fairing. Then found it got in the way so much I couldn't ride the bike. That was in 1997
Personally the original Velocity moto “LC” version can’t be beaten on capturing the visual essence of the 80s !
I wouldn’t kick it out the garage mind 😂 #RetroCool
Looks great, but…..£4000 for a painted kit ! It could still be worth it if you really wanted the look but with the price of a new bike on top you’d really be pushing into some nice bikes price ranges.
I agree
This should be a yamaha model.
I thought the same.
You forgot the price of the MT09 swingarm and chain ;-)
So if I didn't want to fit it myself would I be looking at probably £11k for the bike £4k for the kit and £2k labour ?
i had an original RD500LC YPVS. My twin brother crashed it lol, so I rebuilt it in Marlboro colours.
Got a winner there. Only way it could be better is in malbour colours.
Yes and it's an optional colour too! 😍
Love it. One to add to my fantasy lottery win bike garage.
the katana light will fit perfectly !!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Always been my dream bike and rd500 love this thing 👌
The thumbnail got me confused there for a minute. I'm like, it's an old bike how the hell is it XSR? And it is. Tremendous design and fit on that kit.
You can put the shorter swinging arm from the MT and shorten the wheelbase, must be a direct fit,
That's what I would do too 👍
Looks great, but the inside of the front fairing should be properly finished with gel coat at the price they are charging. I would not want to spend all my time looking at a large slab of unfinished fibreglass.
It looks 100 times better than an MT. I would definitely consider one of these for my next bike.

Ohh man, looks beautiful -.- saad that I'm not in the UK
Thats a gorgeous kit.
But i have to say, Velocity Moto's kit to turn the XSR700 in to a YPXS also looks great...
Now... how to explain to yhe wife I need both... 😂
Great looking bike they should put small white/orange round indicators in the tailpiece.
What a beautiful Yamaha..that should Yamaha have in line..
Really like the 350 lc lookalike as well
Great video as normal Chopsy and 100% fantastic looking bike. Shame they cannot do it in better material or finish it better to get away from the fibreglass look on the inside. Saying that still a great looking bike.
We need more kits like this
The iconic looks of the RD. I wonder if you could do the same modifications to a suzuki or Kawasaki middleweight machine.....giving them the RG and KR1S looks? Just a thought.
Great video again Chops 👏 😊
That would be cool! 👍
Looks great, but I see the paint costs £2200 so that's £4000 total... OUCH !
Yamaha will probably launch the XSR900GP in 2024, or Yamaha's own replica of a 1980's Grand Prix bike. Definitely curious about this motorcycle
Absolutely brilliant!
I'm a bit surprised Yamaha didn't do something like this tbh, but the Velocity Moto stuff if top notch.
This is 😱😱😱 I would definitely do a Kenny Roberts one 🤔🤔 ❤ it just ❤ it. And I need a new bike too.
I love the look of this bike, but......and it's a BIG BUT, £1870 for the unpainted kit plus an additional £2200 to have it painted is ridiculous considering the original value and depreciation that these bikes suffer with. Honestly I'm a bit gutted that the painted kit is over £4k
Literally off for a cup of tea, then coming back under duvet to see my bike with a body kit, get chopped 👍
That was really good👍🏻
About £14,500 for a new bike & a painted fitted kit. that's well worth it. considering I just seen the wide wheel kit from Thornton Hundred Motorcycles cost £10,000 to put on a £13,500 bike and they don't include rear lights, number plate, chain guard! I have a 09 SP which I think looks better. Ok who am I kidding, this is gorgeous.
gorgeous bike!
I love it! 😍👍
I’m just past my 66th birthday never wanted a bike with a fairing, especially one that you ride head down backside up ,I know have a Kawasaki SX 1000 love it ,
Put the MT09 swingarm on it Chopsy 🤪
Yeah think that's the answer 👍
Would look great with twin carbon cans on the right mimicking the RD or YZR racer!
Wow…..
❤🏴 love from Scotland 🏴 ❤
The swingarm is from the Tracer 9 on the XSR
Proper Old School look 👍
Chopsy Do you think they blacked out the frame to draw your attention more to the body kit
That looks awesome!!
That is a very nice looking bike :-)
When I began riding, that would've been a bike that had been cool, but become dated. Today however, it's the cat's conkers! Want it
a fully faired and upright triple that isn't built as a tourer. If it was 23' styled, i might sell my ST765 before the first service.
Chopsy, how did you find this compared to the XSR900 gen 1 that you rode a while back?
One of two bikes I wish I’d never sold; The RD500, and The TDR250. If that bodykit was available here in NZ, I would struggle not to buy one…😊
it is available in New Zealand as a mail-order kit.
@@velocitymoto9685 I wonder how much the P&P would be tho..?!
Love the look.❤
how's the wind blockage? is it good when cruising normally or do you have to tuck in more aggressively?
Wow! It really looks like RD500 i thought this just a clickbait! 😂
Looks good!
