Carl said in the Bystanders doc that Peter was always the 'taskmaster' in those days: driven, focused and relentless in his pursuit of songwriting prowess and band success. Peter's new book also sheds new light on that, confirming this fact.
He left the band and then rang them back when they got a record deal.....Carl put him in his place after that and he did what he was told and stayed out the spotlight!....or so the story goes...makes sense though doesn't it?cause here he is very much part of the front row
I'm surprised they had 'Music when the lights go out' in 1999. Always thought it was written in direct response to he break down of their relationship between the first 2 albums....
Why do people always say the Libertines were a copycat English version of the strokes when they'd written most of their songs before the strokes even released their first album?
Perhaps cause some of the songs in their 1st album did aim at following the trend of the likes of the strokes, but they have their own sounds, of course. They didn't sound like the strokes, they were better than the strokes in some other perspectives, though they did copy a few.
Ah man this band should of been huge. Never lived up to their full potential, could of been because of many things. But never the less I love them and the effect their music has had on my life. It's crazy how tight and focused Pete is in these early shows-- in tune, in rhythm, with a piercing and sweet quality to his voice...
Wow, Peter before drugs! Never seen this, excellent to watch. I like the higher key.

He always looked like wilde imo
Any wonder why Doherty idolised him

I'm surprised they had 'Music when the lights go out' in 1999. Always thought it was written in direct response to he break down of their relationship between the first 2 albums....
Look up 'Legs 11' demo - MWTLGO + many others were written long before they were even signed by Rough Trade - let alone in between albums.

This taints the album 'the libertines' slightly. Next you'll be telling me 'can't stand me know' was written in 98
I suppose it's obviously not about each other with lyrics like 'girl i thought i know has gone'.
Pretty sure Peter wrote MWTLGO whilst still at school in Nuneaton - think I read that in the hound together book by Anthony Thornton
there was a fair bit of marketing involved with the selftitled ablum, make no mistake about it.
The Label and the band knew what they were doing.

Seemingly Brett Anderson on vocals
TadamsonTutorials9 I know I say going to say that but it seems I’m 5 hours late
Pete doing Brett doing Bowie - see the original You're My Waterloo for an even better example (and also because it's one of their loveliest songs).
