ok so I just successfully attempted this same method using tubular webbing. my partner at the station and I figured we carry plenty of webbing in our rope rescue bags and the only 8mil rope we carry that's that long is our load releasing hitch which we would use before this and when you untie the webbing from the daisy chain you are already at the middle of your webbing so it saves a little time having to find the middle first. great idea CNC rescue. it's another great tip for the mental tool box.

I'm wondering why you'd use this technique versus a Prusik, valdotain tresse, or another friction hitch (most of which seem much less time-consuming)? I'm also confused about the name, as this looks like a French braid.

If you use a prusik, how will you slowly ease that knot onto the new system after you pass the knot?

A pursik could work but depending on how heavy the load it, you would want a belay system to ease back into it. Could use a munter hitch, could use a petzl ID, several different options.

Don't know whether I'd call it french braid, it's basically a VT without the wraps, just the braiding. I guess the benefit here is that it will release *very* smoothly under *very* high loads.

What are the limitations of this technique? Is it safe for rescuer and victim in stokes basket or just for a single rescuer?
