This guy is probably the most underrated guitarist/musician of all time. He is a legend who has created and inspired so much great music. He is a survivor that's transcended time and unwarranted criticism. Luke, you are a true genius!
Melodic/tasteful players like Lukather, or Neal Schon, or Brian May, or Clapton, or many of the other rhythm oriented players he mentioned in the interview, in the end, will always gain more respect than the speed freaks. Especially from other players. It's one thing to play fast, or technical, but is an art to writing the right part for the right piece of music, the right solo appropriate for and synonymous with a given piece, that is what that these players are exceptional at. Otherwise, it's just guitar aerobics and calisthenics with no soul.
Still looking good for 60 years old. Been listening to your music since high school.70 and 80's music is the best. take care of yourself so you can keep on playing for a long time to come.
It was kind of Steve to share some of his difficulties as he turned 50, which made me feel a bit sad for him...but I know many of us fans wish him the best as he continues to bless the world with his awesome guitar playing and great musicianship.
My teenage daughter loves you guys, Toto!! And of course her favorite is Africa. She was playing it in her room and I went and said “hey, why are you playing my music?” That’s my era.. she was like...I know...I love it!!
If you're from the US, Toto have just released some tour dates for the summer, with more to come - amazing live! Check out youtube for video of their current tour.
What a guitarist, and great interview. Saw Toto last week in Paris, very good show, they played some old and "forgotten" Toto's songs from the 80's, that was great.
Steve can talk the part..........but, man, he can play it also! Unbelievable talent, and so glad that Toto's still climbing! This was a pleasure to listen to!
" Time moves. That's what's wrong with everything now". Best sentence in this great interview !! Nobody plays together anymore. It's all about the click in Pro Tools. Music used to be free.
Are you kidding me Steve? You’ve been in style since the late 70’s......my entire adult life. ( I am 60 as well ). Thankfully Toto and you are becoming more appreciated! Can you tell me the name of the pill that helped your hair grow back please and thank you.
Maye McDonald same question here. Since he said something like that he took some pills for ~1 year, i guess he took an amino acid called (L-)Arginine, which seems to get more and more known for the - (actually side-) effect to push hair growth even in cases of genetically conditioned hair loss. Look it up here on yt, there is some info to find.
Comparing having a hit record with discovering masturbation was one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard-I love this guy! Can’t wait for the book :-)
ALL that matters is your FANS...the music...why does Luke still hold onto this SHIT??? you are STEVE LUKATHER...you listen to his guitar parts when he was in his 20s and he understood groove and space and touch and could LISTEN...all the stuff overlooked by "chops"...every major player has chops...it is HOW you use them (art) and Steve gets it...he was 21 when he did the hold the line solo...end of story.
Two things... 1) WHAT IS THE RUSH?!! You’ve got STEVE LUKATHER sitting there opening up and sharing incredible insight and you kind of cut him off! Are you NUTS?? Let him talk for as long as he wants... 2) Did you really just pull his HAIR??!!! 😬🤦🏻♂️😳
It´s nice to be tipsy on these f******g conventions.-Best wishes to you Steve,-never forget our rumble in sw**en 10 years ago. But i will never, ever buy an Ernie Ball guitar.-Ever,never.
Michael David so what ? I have most of my life - doesn’t mean one thing or change how talented he is or what a nice guy he is. Your comment wasn’t necessary -

Love Steve Lukather. I’ll never understand the negativity. Don’t ever stop 👍🏻👍🏻
Negativity = jealousy.
@@KingdomofLuke1 exactly.
Those people who have such negativity towards Luke are jealous that they don't have the life he has and have done the things he has gotten too.
Luv Steve Lukather!! Hope I get to meet him some day!
you couldn't find a more humble guy than Stevo !! he's a fookin legend !! love him to bits !!

Luke is the guitar king of the cats, but absolutely the best of the men out there, always pleasing the fans!
Fookin' great interview!
An amazing, incredible talent, who needs to learn to accept it when someone else points it out! xx
He has the evolution of learning to play, dead nuts to the point ! learning to records is a lost art! it taught us to LISTEN !
Steve and Joe (Walsh) on "Dirty Laundry" - probably the two most scorching solos, ever recorded by man....
Great interview!
It's not his guitar playing. It's his voice that is amazing.
Luke the best !!!
Luke is a maniac. True musicians musician! 60 year old guitar animal!

YOu don't need hair man, it's just a damn hassle ...

“Dirt nap”.

Me cojoni.
fabrizio peretti preciso
Luke has dyed his hair for years
Michael David so what ? I have most of my life - doesn’t mean one thing or change how talented he is or what a nice guy he is. Your comment wasn’t necessary -
A Little drunk?
Luke acts like he had a stroke
Alcohol ? Drugs ? Meds ? He doesn't seem to speak really normally... :( Love his music & playing tho'
That's just how he talks, though he sounded a bit more tired than usual.
He talks like that.....
The buss accident again....Keep milking for that lawsuit!
That's a major chapter in your life when it affects your livelihood, like this did. Sounds like it was extremely painful at first, too.
