Wow lol I wish I felt that way. My phone is a flagship from 2017 that still works fine and for some dumb reason I want to buy a new phone because of wanting a bigger screen and 5G. I know after 2 weeks it will be come normalized but still want to do it anyway.

“Apply minimalism to every area of your life.” And not just the white walls 😊. That’s so true. With bombardment of visuals with very clean aesthetic, we lose sight of the fact that minimalism is not about external appearances but how you live your life. Thanks for sharing.

I have my Note 4.....I bought it just as it came out. It’s getting a little glitchy after about 6 1/2 years. It replaced my 5-6 yr old iPhone 3GS. We have old Hondas that go forever. Best investment yet is in my husband....29 years a few days ago. I’m a 51 years old fan Gabe. My husband is watching your UA-cams when I put them on rather than ignoring them and looking on his own phone. You have some wisdom of a MUCH older person. We will keep it up. I like the videos sharing what you have learned from your choices and the financial ones. Thanks a lot.

I started going less, and before I knew it, I was unloading more than the house. I unloaded me. Now, I'm ready for the next phase of my life...self aware. Things & other people have to fit my life...not just insinuate themselves into it. Its gonna be interesting.

I think a good word for minimalism is contentedness. Being happy with what you have and who you are. Not that you shouldn't have a growth mindset but I think that comes from a different place than constantly lusting after the next best thing.

  • @laminage
    @laminage 3 роки тому +3

Decluttering is the best thing you can do for yourself. You purge yourself, and get rid of alot of stuff and your Home is cleaner, more organized and you feel a sense of getting a big burden off of your shoulders. Also coming Home to your Home is such a thrill because it's so Zen.

I loved "intentionalness..." we are working towards a more intentional lifestyle. Living with less stuff, but everything we live with is chosen to fullfill a purpose.
We live on a small acreage, that we are starting to grow our own food, we have been slowly minimising our possessions and minimising our work life, so we can spend more time with each other

Great video.. And excellent ideas that you have brought up!
I am only 48yrs old.. But always been quite minimal; I hate shopping, advertising, so avoid town/shops and TV. I also have never bought stuff just because it's in fashion or new out.. I always only "replace" stuff when it's broken and worn out..that's how I was brought up!
I guess because I have always valued saving money and spending it on travel/experiences.
The only thing I have ever bought on credit is my house.. Otherwise only buy stuff when you have the money in your account for it... The whole obsession with credit card spending is definitely an American phenomenon.. In Europe you only use credit card for huge buys.. Because you get charged a percentage of what you buy if you use your credit card!
The job issue is more difficult.. Mine was a dream job until I had my kids.. Kids destroy your life and career as a woman.. Of course this depends what career you have, where you live in the world and therefore what your rights are and the support system for working mums... Unfortunately I live in a country (Germany) that is like 1950s UK! And in a career which is 95% men... So a disaster.. I am so glad I have sons... Males have it so easy in life compared to women.. Even if western societies.. Women are still second class citizens!.. Sadly!

Sad to hear that, I hear you. My experience has been different, in last 15 years since having three children, I have returned to work part time full time at different stages and after the third child was one I started my own business so I don’t have to worry about work place issues like that as I set the culture. Since having children my saving for retirement is in track, house paid off and second house nearly paid for. My career changed and evolved. Being frugal and a minimalist is helping too as I value different things. (I hear your struggle, certainly there are busier times in life and certainly everything was not easy but overall I am grateful for the struggle and the outcomes) Good Luck.

@@tanyapinnock2347 that's great!..So happy for you.. . I was almost at the "top of the ladder".. Only one step to go.. Then kids.. And total career distruction.. And unfortunately in my line of work, a university academic, you can't turn it into your own business.. If I had known how medieval Germany is in male dominated jobs I would not have had kids or I would have moved back to the UK or elsewhere where career and kids for women is normal!.. As always.. I am again fighting for my rights at the start of this university year... As I have done for over a decade.. Since having kids... Life here is just shit.. Now I despise Germany... It really is only a nice place to be if you are childless or chose to give up your life and career and stay home!

@@tanyapinnock2347 that's so great!😊 ... I am a geoscience working in climate research and lectures. I was starting to build up a side line freelance job, which has potential.. .. But have had to put it on hold due to my nightmare divorce which is taking up any "non work/kid time" I have.. But once that's completed I hope to take up my freelance work again. .. But need to adapt it to the current covid situation.. Which is probably in my favour.. Because now I am a single working mum living abroad, travel for my freelance would be almost impossible to do due to my kids.

Very inspiring video Gabe, thanks. I fully agree with you except "the decluttering of projects" parts. You are probably correct for one goal. But the life has many aspects that can be dealt like projects. For instance, wife, kids, work, primary physical hobby, primary mental hobby... When you deal with all these stuffs, you actually balance your life and enhance your ability. At least I think like that. :)

I'm a regular "Josephine". My HP Notebook I bought in 2014 and it still works and although I've changed my Cell Phone, I've had this one for about Five Years and I'm very happy with it. I've stopped spending and I purged myself of alot of things, I brownbag Monday to Thursday and treat myself on Friday. Where I live you would spend $20.00 each day on Lunch. I remember reading a Book called Adrian Mole and The Weapons Of Mass Destruction. He couldn't understand why he was in such sky high debt, he spent at least 20.00 per day on Starbucks, then Newspapers, then he had his Car, then more goes out than comes in. He rented a Loft Apt for 1000,00 a Month but he made 1000.00 per Month (Before Deductions), he lived way beyond his means. He left the loft and his Boss who ran a Bookshop allowed him to live in The Flat Two Floors above The store. You're very kind as a Landlord, I'm sure that quite often they have been "Late" with Rent especially with Covid.

I am minimalist in every way even with my converssations with all of people who I don't know super well, hygiene, meals. and people. I have zero friends, I spend like 5 minutes at most preparing my meals and I eat left overs all week and freeze what I don't and eat it later. 🤣 I pick 3 UA-camrs I listen to monthly and it is cause I am learning from them. I refuse to work full time for someone else. At the rate I am going I will have financial freedom by the time I am 60 so I can just enjoy my last year's all to myself. I follow mostly my blood type diet and BOB HARPERS super carb diet. I work out at home 30 min a week and walk daily and have lost 80lbs. I don't got time to be hanging out in a gym an hour a day, it cost gas to drive their, and cost to get in, so no thanks. I am saving lots of money now and have alot of PEACE.

I don't even know what kind of phone I have. I went to Walmart and told them I was willing to spend about $100.00. So that's what I have. My phone fulfills my needs. I'm happy

I have a mountain bike which I bought 6 years ago. I still do it. No need to buy a car. Some people are in a hurry for new car or a bike every few years... deep in loans. That's not living.

Hi Gabe! I need to confess: I bought an Iphone 11 last month for my birthday because I love Apple products! Please forgive me! :P I waited 5 years to buy a new phone. I promise you that I’m still keeping an eye on my finances and believe in minimalism :P I don’t pay for mobile data, so I can spend more money on the device itself! :)

Minimalism is about purchasing stuff intentionally and avoiding purchasing a bunch of useless things, so it's ok!

Gabe you should see my cell phone hahahahaha. I have had it for so long that my phone company does not even sell it anymore but the phone that is one level up is now a reasonable price for me and I'm saving up the cash for it instead of just swiping my credit card. The phone is about $200 after activation, taxes and such.

Wow, if there was a phone that lasted ten years I would want it! I have always kept mine until they break and can't be fixad anymore. I get a new battery, upgrade software, delete files etc. The time I usually managed to keep a phone alive is five years. But would love it if they could live longer. I never liked novely and find it a hassle to move all my files and info from one phone to a new. I would never like to do that EVER year! Then again, it seems I'm one of the few on the planet that apparently dont have a shopping addiction... 🤔 And am not impressed by novelty/newness. I just dont get bored by stuff. I like having a serene mind, not stuff it with stimulie..

Work Fullfilmentness :), Intentionalism...if not -ness, -ism is the next word maker. Selfishness is a real word, another could be self care, mental health, even making yourself a priority-though none of these end in -ness. I enjoy the humor, makes it easier to deal with our weaknesses. :)

Don’t just get a new phone for sake of getting a new phone...true, but I value my phone working well snd use the camera a lot, so I do upgrade up every 2 years on a contract and sell off the old one each time for about 500 dollars, which gives me about 7 months of payments taken care of on the new contract, you can get 5 years out of a phone not 10 if you want it to work well..I think of my phone as tool I use it for work, as my gps, email etc for me it’s the one thing you can upgrade often because we all rely on our phones so much..with that being said will I be upgrading my trusty old Honda Civic any time soon ...NOPE !

Minimalism is great, but it's annoying when financially priveleged people go on diatribes about how you should only do work that you love. Some people don't have a special skill or the opportunity to do some sort of soul fulfilling profession. Some people just need actual jobs to earn money.
