  • This classic traditional Irish tune is usually credited to Turlough O'Carolan, arranged here for solo guitar in "C Wahine" tuning (CGDGBE). The tune is usually labeled as "Second Air" because there is another O'Carolan tune dedicated to George Brabazon. There's apparently some dispute over whether this tune was truly composed by O'Carolan - it was first credited to O'Carolan in O'Neil's Music of Ireland, but can be found in earlier collections of Scottish tunes under a different name, (Prince Charlie’s Welcome To The Isle Of Skye), so the tune may not even be Irish in origin.
I originally arranged the tune for my Peghead Nation course on alternate tunings, and it also appears in my book, Alternate Tunings for Fingerstyle Guitar. This version has been expanded a bit from the original take that I teach in the course and book. I've added an extended introduction, and some variations and diversions.
Performed on a Kathy Wingert Model E, recorded with a pair of Schoeps CMC641 mics into a Sound Devices recorder, and Panasonic cameras.
