Fun fact about the organ in The Legend of Zelda series: Canonically, Ganondorf (the main villain) plays the instrument. In Cadence of Hyrule you can find a young Ganondorf playing the organ and whistling the tune of Gerudo Valley.

Cadence of Hyrule was one of the coolest and most unexpected crossovers I've ever seen. Amazing soundtrack too!
There's a reason the peaceful and combat version are the same tempo - as another commenter explained, the game switches between versions dynamically. You hear the combat version while you're fighting enemies (to the beat), then once you beat the last enemy on the screen, it switches to the peaceful version. Then if you move to another screen and it has enemies, you're back to the combat version. They work together incredibly well imo

Alright, let’s do an info dump about Cadence of Hyrule this time, lol. Cadence of Hyrule is a spin-off of both Zelda and Crypt of the Necrodancer made by the Necrodancer developers (Brace Yourself Games). The soundtrack is indeed composed by DannyB, and it also features FamilyJules on guitar, just like Crypt did. It mostly features remixes from across the Zelda franchise, but there’s also a good amount of original tracks in there as well, so it’s not only remixes. The game is basically if you took a Zelda game, made it a roguelite, and made the combat follow Crypt of the Necrodancer rules (it’s to the beat of the music). Each run can take a few hours casually because the game is literally a full (but somewhat compressed) Zelda game each time, just with a randomized map layout and item placements. The deal with the peaceful/combat versions is every overworld/area theme has multiple versions, usually at least 3. There’s the peaceful version, which plays as you move around areas that don’t have any enemies (and doesn’t force you to follow the beat), the combat version, which plays when enemies are present (where you do have to follow the beat), and the pause version, which you didn’t hear, that is a sort of lo-fi version that plays in the pause menu. Some songs have other variations, but that’s the gist of the different versions. They dynamically swap in and out based on what’s going on in gameplay, so you’ll constantly be switching between them all.
This is basically a crossover that works surprisingly well, but literally nobody could have predicted it would exist, lol. The music is all bangers, with a ton of really interesting instrumentation and fun integration into the game (some songs feature instruments like a live otamatone or a live oboe, for example). It’s actually my favorite Zelda soundtrack, and you’re in for a treat with any future requests from this game. (I should request a few songs from this game😅)

      > nobody could have predicted it would exist
This isn't a joke, basically everyone was floored that an indie company got to license one of Nintendo's biggest properties. The story goes that Brace Yourself asked Nintendo if they could make a small Zelda-themed DLC for the Switch port of Crypt of the Necrodancer, and Nintendo essentially responded, lol, no, you're thinking too small, do a full spinoff.

    Cadence of Hyrule was crazy.
Got announced like 3 weeks before release and was an absolute banger.
Imagine a classic 2D Zelda game with an Overworld, Dungeons, Items, Shops and Stuff, but its also a roguelite rhythm game.

Gerudo valley its just like a canyon/desert area full of women and no men allowed if a men approches their town they get captured which it happened in ocarina of time and link has to go rescue them but he also get captured and he escapes too. The most critical thing frol gerudos is that one male is born every 100 years and it becomes a king and that king is ganondorf.
    Apology for the grammar. Lol

This game is basically A Link to the Past as a rhythm game with almost procedurally generated maps (even the overworld). Zelda's also a playable character here, so not a damsel story. Also the music dynamically switches tracks between peaceful and combat depending on if there's enemies on the screen. When you beat the enemies you can move free of the tempo with no issue, but during the combat portion you're supposed to act on the beat.
Some of the hardest challenges are chests that only unlock if you clear the whole map without any off-beat inputs.

  • @tenkiforecast
    @tenkiforecast 7 місяців тому +2

I *adore* DannyB's orchestration of Gerudo Valley for Cadence of Hyrule, I think it might be my favorite one. That says a lot given the amount of fantastic 'official' orchestrations of Gerudo Valley in Smash Ultimate, variations in later Zelda games, and that's not even touching other YT arrangers. Lucas Gitano Family's arrangement/performance is also fantastic.
As for why Gerudo Valley is flamenco/Spanish inspired...here's my guess. The Gerudo were inspired by a story in Journey to the West about a town of only women, but LoZ added the twist making them a different...culture, if not a different 'species' with fantasy and not going there. Point being they have a 'king' born about once a century, which is where Ganondorf comes from. Why it's a desert, why it's spanish themed...I think it's because Nintendo was pulling from Moorish history. From ~750 to ~1500 CE various parts of Spain were controlled by a variety of caliphates, whether it was nobles fleeing the collapsing Umayyad Dynasty to the Caliphate of Cordoba at its height, so there is another association of Spanish/Flamenco sounds to various music of Islam. Which, for better and worse, the Gerudo are themed after may pop culture depictions of the Middle East.
What it did was result in one of the most legendary pieces of video game music.

Hey Jesse, I just wanted to give you some info before you play Xenoblade 2. Nothing about the gameplay or story, just a couple things you should know:
The game was rushed to be released on switch as early as possible, since it's an early switch title. Aside from some questionable decisions regarding progression while exploring, the only thing that's really baffling is the tutorials. Compared to the XB1 tutorials, they just suck. I believe you cannot even view most of them again. The dlc fixes this, but for some reason it was not changed for the base game. This comes into play with the combat system, so if you're struggling on mechanics and have a boatload of side stuff to do, maybe do another livestream asking for help on mechanics. One other small thing is that the game has some audio balancing issues, a few times, the music overpowers the voices. It is rare, but I thought I should let you know. You can edit the balancing, but since it's inconsistent, there's no point.
Aside from that, I suggest you play the game, and the rest of the series, in English. You should save the Japanese VA for a second playthrough. There are like 3 lines in the English VA that are oddly bad (the actors sometimes weren't even allowed re-takes, and no time to practice), but 99.9% of the time it's exactly as great as XB1 (Also, since this game is more anime-like, it's occasionaly very apparent when the mouths don't match the words. Xenoblade 3 actually has lip syncing for English!). I haven't finished watching your XB1 playthrough, so in case you haven't heard this, here's a fun fact: the reason all the English voices are British, is simply because it was localized in Europe. Back in 2010, there were 3 games that had not been localized in the west, including Xenoblade. After a campaign by fans titled project rainfall, Nintendo finally had them localized. But Nintendo of America wouldn't do it, and ever since then, the British voices stuck. Xenoblade 2 actually takes the accents to the next level, to the point that would be impossible to do in Japanese. You will see what I mean. One last little thing, I suggest purchasing the dlc only after you've completed the game. Have fun!

If you want to know what Gerudo Valley/Desert is like, play Ocarina of Time. You really should now that you own a Switch. It is the most critically acclaimed game of all time for a very good reason.
(The valley part is basically a canyon and the desert part is what you can guess, a hot sand desert. It's named after the Gerudo tribe who live there, an all-female warrior/thief tribe)
