  • See Ashtamudi: Episode 1 - Boat Journey from Kollam Jetty to the Serene Backwaters of Ashtamudi Lake | Perumon Rail Bridge Tour.
    Date- 24-07-2024.
    Location- Kollam Boat Jetty (2kms from Kollam Rly station).
    Boat Fare- 500 INR (Upper Deck) & 400 INR (Lower Deck).
    Food Fare- 100 INR (includes both Standard Veg and Non-veg standard Meals).
    Welcome to the first episode of our exciting series, "See Ashtamudi." In this episode, we embark on a magical boat journey starting from the bustling Kollam Boat Jetty, navigating through the serene backwaters of Ashtamudi Lake. As we glide through the calm waters, you'll be captivated by the lush greenery, traditional Kerala villages, and the tranquil ambiance that surrounds us.
    We'll pass through charming villages and halt at a jetty to load up on a delicious lunch. After enjoying our meal, the boat will head towards the historic Perumon Railway Bridge, the site of the tragic Island Express accident in 1988.
    From there, we'll take a detour towards Sambranikodi Boat Jetty, where we will disembark and transition to a thrilling speedboat ride to a nearby island.     00:33- Heading to the Kollam Boat Jetty on an auto-rickshaw. Autorickshaws are available at the Kollam Railway Station parking lot for a pre-paid fare of just 50 INR. The distance from the station to the boat jetty is approximately 2 kilometers.
    1:03 onwards- Kollam Boat Jetty and the view of the 'See Ashtamudi Boat' that I and Akshay are going to travel.
    2:01-Akshay and I are enjoying light refreshments at the boat jetty, savoring tea, coffee, and some biscuits.
    2:19- Boat departs from Kollam Boat Jetty.
    2:37- Upper deck of the boat we have booked.
    2:44- In- conversation with the Boat Manager.
    3:56 onwards- On the lower deck, we received a briefing on the boat's fare structure and the features of the tour. The duration of 'See Ashtamudi' Ferry will be 5 hours with a ticket rate of Rs.400/- for Lower deck and Rs.500/- for Upper deck. Tickets online can be booked through this number, contact 9400050390.

    19:11- The boat crew directs me to where the backwaters merge with the Arabian Sea in the backdrop, highlighting the scenic confluence of these two majestic water bodies. The crew also informs me that the boat will sail to the Perumon Railway Bridge, where, in 1988, the Trivandrum-bound Island Express from Bangalore plunged off the bridge, resulting in 105 lives being lost as the train's bogies fell into the water.

    43:21- Upon arriving at Sambranikodi Jetty, we will halt, disembark, and transfer to a speedboat heading towards Sambranikodi Island. This marks the next exciting phase of our journey as we explore the island.
