Anxiety is the evil twin of creativity Wow, that's an incredible way to describe it is so few words! Thank you Rachel for being so awesome and developing so many relatable characters in your show :)
That last part is so true. I have so many friends who say they don't want to get on medication for their depression because it will numb their personality. But if you can find the RIGHT med, it will dampen the depression and leave your personality there to flourish without it being stifled by the depression. It can really make a difference. But it takes some patience to find the right thing.
@@silvialamejor But why though? There are plenty of things we need that our bodies can't make or fix. Something being "natural" doesn't make it better by any means. A lot of natural things are incredibly dangerous. Life is about pros and cons. Taking medication, or doing anything really is about taking as few bad, or whatever bad you can handle with the good. If a medication isn't working or the side effects aren't worth it or handleable, then you stop taking it (in the way a doctor suggests, since SRRI's can be unpleasant to get off of for many people.) We simply don't know exactly what it perfect, so it's about getting the right cocktail. Same goes for food, and sleep and activities. The brain is a mess of chemicals and things that happen in our lives, the food we eat, the things we do all affect how they function and what is produced. Medication is the same, but more direct.
I really appreciate the interviewers for being so involved and ‘patient’. I’ve seen so many interviewers who barely listen/respond to their interviewees to move on to the next thing.
Mirko Frollano the word she was trying to refer to is actually a Greek word that means “womb.” Women diagnosed with hysteria were suffering from a wandering womb (by the way the womb doesn’t wander) that contributed to erratic behavior such as a woman wanting a career or education.
Every time I hear her talk, I think she has tried to do her part in educating people. She has tried to convey a message which is very meaningful and at the same time tried her best to make it comprehensible for people who would not normally GET how mental health works. It must be hard to be what she is and try to balance out her career and her intelligence at the same time for public media. I love her for that.
The more aware you are of the world around you the more susceptible you are to overthinking all of life’s nuances. For some people, myself included, turning off our thoughts is the hard part.

greeks' scientists thought that hysteria was because the womb would go up in the throat of the woman and the treatment would be to masturbate the woman. you're welcome :p

Good doctor with good treatment plan, including meditation. She said as much but didn't go into details. Which is good because not all treatments work for everyone

It's so important for people to understand that there is no point in getting medication/therapy if your condition isn't actually impeding you from living your best life. The issue is realizing IF it is doing so. This is why someone with ADHD that has very mild presentation and had a good support group growing up and already learned a lot of coping techniques may not benefit at all or much from a medication, whereas someone struggling in school, work, memory, attention etc who doesn't know that they even have ADHD could very much benefit from it. Your medication/therapy should never be making your life overall worse. Sure, with a lot of treatments, even some therapies depending on your issue (PTSD and OCD are good examples) there can be dark before the light, especially with SSRI's and other common drugs that need adjustment periods, but if after said period things just aren't working out, you talk to you practitioner and explain what was going on, what your concerns are. No psychiatrist worth their salt will ignore your concerns and understand that medication might be new territory and you are scared, frustrated or whatever. They are there to help you find what works. No one is trying to force people to take drugs or have to deal with feeling like a zombie or anything like that.

I can't wait until the day anxiety/depression stops being the hip thing, it's been a gloomy and boring couple of decades because of young people and their first-world problems
I have such a big crush on her brain. She is incredibly beautiful as well but man I would listen to her speak for HOURS.
Rachel Bloom is a genius.

What I enjoy most about Ms. Bloom is her kindness. You can tell she really cares and that means the world to me.

agreed!
Antidepressants are so not a big deal
But doesn’t your body develop tolerance to the medication? Therefor needing a higher dose?
I still want to believe there has to be a natural alternative way to cure depression and anxiety without taking pills

Fuck she's perceptive and smart. So relevant and helpful to me right now. Thanks Rachel Bloom :)
Such a fan of Rachel Bloom. Watching her show for a second time and catching all new things I missed, is even better than watching it the first time.
"I'm not that smart"? She is very smart, she just sells herself short. :)

That's why I haven't watched the hand maidens tale either I have to be in the right mindset.
It's weird seeing her be so serious.
Watched this to know more about the show and how the cast members interact-- found myself tantalized by her perception of the mental health. Wow???
Hystera means uterus in Greek. :) And the whole hysteria notion stems from ancient Greek medical practices.
