Love T&D. Loved them in every performance. They skated as one. Can't get over the beauty of their skating

Those skates of theirs, centimeters from each other all the time, what a perfection!

Too bad it was cut off before the full explanation was given of the Canadian judge's score.
While the score was only 4.8, if that was the best score from THAT judge, the skater gets an Ordinal Placement of 1 from that judge. The next best score from the same judge gets an ordinal of 2, and so forth. At the same time, another judge may give the same skater a score of 5.4, but if that's only the 6th best score from that judge, then the skater gets an ordinal placement of 6. In other words, what matters is not so much the score but the ordinal placement from all of the judges.

Judges should be held accountable for their scores n say what they saw to get that score n that will cut the personal feeling. Skaters work hard n should be judged fairly based on their skate that moment in time.

Not a good dance! They BOTH two footed every choctaw and their pattern was very odd and shifted. Even a 5.3 was a gift, but they were already climbing the ranks at this point so the judges kept their momentum going.

@@Person-mh6xq Yes, this was something I also noticed about this dance. The pattern that they made on the ice was quite strange. They were still a work in progress at that time. And oh boy, those choctaws!

Canadian judge. Ha. Ha. Ha. Look where Torvill & Dean now.. they have their own TV Show and they don’t have to prove to Them, the Canadian judge they’re Simple The Best... where did Canadian Stands in the ratings.
    U. S. A. Couple B & S are close rating to T & D

They seem a tad bit ahead of the music, but it might just be me.

what's the matter with the Canadian Judge,, don't they like the British,, keeps givin g them Low marks and to us all TnD are the best, even the commentator says they consistant with GRB LOW marks.

Their timing was not on the beat and their patterns kept shifting. And as another poster mentioned, they both two footed the choctaw. They were absolutely stunning skaters but they were still in development at this point in time of their careers. They improved exponentially by the following season. And even more by 1982. By 1984, they were almost untouchable. But in 1980 in this particular dance, I don't think the Canadian judge's mark was out of line.

I’ll never or have watched. Canadian skates . They will never be graded as Torvill & Dean class. They know these pairs are the greatest. Even the commentators said they’re above the rest.. Canadian bad losers.

Back then, it wasn't just the judge's number, but how they ranked the skaters with the ordinals (1,2, 3 etc) for their placement. The Canadian judge gave them 1st place- she was just a very low scorer.

They had timing issues in this dance and their choctaws were poorly performed. I actually think T&D are probably the greatest ice dancers of all time but they were still a work in progress at this point in their careers.

More of Button spalavering over the Russians, and few words for 4th place Torvill and Dean...disgusting.
