Great video. One very small correction: the bad doesn't kill the entire family in the opening scene. He kills only the father and one of the sons. The lady of the house and the other little boy are spared.
The Good The Bad & The Ugly is also my favorite movie, always has been. My grandpa would let me watch Clint westerns with him even as young as 3 or 4. Cinemax has an Eastwood marathon one time and he recorded all 3 movies on VHS-Hang ‘Em High, For A Few Dollars More, and The Good The Bad & The Ugly. Throughout my childhood I wore that tape out. Was a teenager before I found and saw Fistful somehow and a little later, Once Upon A Time in the West, Which I didn’t appreciate nearly as much initially as I do now (young me missed Clint not being there). Still haven’t ever seen Duck Uou Sucker or Once Upon A Time In America yet somehow, or the other which I didn’t even know about until watching this video.
You look like American? I spent a year as an exchange student in Pittsburgh PA 1984-85. Got the funny hat and two propousal from Uncle Sam: The US ARMY and NAVY sent me letters come on join, You get green card. I declined and served in Finlands navy(reserve Leutenant). Hoping to join NATO!
The crazy thing is that a lot of people like me first saw these movies on TV or VHS before letterboxing and 16:9 televisions. They were great movies, but we only saw half the frame! Sometimes we'd only see part of an eye or a nose in the closeups and in the wide shots there'd be three people talking but we could only see one. Leone never made compositions that worked for 4:3 13 inch TVs.
I’m one of those guys that thought For a few dollars more was a much better film than fistful (though fistful is awesome) I think it just has the stigma of being right in the middle of Leone’s grand entry into the Mainstream and his pinnacle The good, the bad and the ugly. And as such gets very underrated
I own all of these movies and I love my top 4 so much that I can't put any of them behind any of the other ones. So I have 4 number 1s, and they are, in no particular order, Once upon a time in America, Once upon a time in the west, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and Duck you sucker. These movies were some of the most AMAZING films ever made. We would be remiss if we didn't give the Great Ennio Morricone his due, for the AWESOME SOUNDTRACKS. His music put me in the perfect mood every single time.
It is bizarre which UA-cam videos get the most views. This is an informative, well edited, and narrated video. Well done. I came here because of Tarantino's love of this director. You also did a great job of describing why you appreciated these movies without spoiling them for (people like me) who haven't seen them.
You should watch them. Tarantino is one of my favourite directors, but Leone is something special. The good, the bad and the ugly is one of the few movies that can be titled the best of all time.

I pretty much agree with this completely except I would swap the number 1 and 2 positions over. OUATITW is the greatest because of the dynamic between the main characters. It is an incredible tour de force and I don't find the pace a problem at all and it has greater emotional depth than TGTBATU. Jill is an incredible heroine and his other films don't have that.

Being a photographer since age 13 when I first saw Sergio Leone on the Big Screen I went crazy “This is how to shoot a Western!” Tight head +gun shots off to one side with a tiny guy on the other while the music builds to make you wait what seems like an eternity. 😲 BRAVO Ha ha

Well I just learned that Two Mules for Sister Sara wasn't a Sergio Leone movie. I guess just because it stars Clint Eastwood and has an Ennio Morricone score doesn't automatically mean Sergio Leone.
I would swap over the order of your final two - I think Once Upon A Time In The West is a more complete film. I think the dialogue, the acting, the music (I love that each character has their own musical signature) and the cinematography are at their best in Once Upon A Time In The West.
AGREED! OUATITW says some important things about character, greed, deeply meaningful friendship, shattered dreams and ambition. It hits harder than TGTBATU but then it is a different type of film. This is not as playful, as lingeringly violent and although it's much less of a road movie (all taking place in one region) it's profoundly more beautiful and contemplative.
@@LampoonGoon I liked your last line, 'profoundly more beautiful and contemplative,' I think you're spot on. I also think that OUATITW pulls more on your emotional strings. It is filled with more pathos - which is surprising when you consider TGTBATU features the American Civil War.
@@MartinKillips I think it's kinda funny how you call Once Upon A Time In The West a more complete film. Leone's intended cut of the film hasn't been available since its' European theatrical presentation in 1968. ua-cam.com/video/EQAkGohR-Ac/v-deo.html
#1 The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly #2 For a Few Dollars More #3 Once Upon a Time in America #4 Once Upon a Time in the West #5 Duck, You Sucker! #6 A Fistful of Dollars #7 The Colossus of Rhodes I can also see a more mature list where "For a Few Dollars More" is at #4, while "il West" and "America" are #2 and #3, respectively.
If you leave out the Colossus of Rhodes, I find it quite impossible to choose between the others. I often re-watch them and my choice simply depends on my mood.
You will be pleased to know that the skeleton in the tomb at the end of the film belongs to a Spanish actress who before dying asked to be able to use her body and enter Sergio Leone's film, immortalizing her... I would say that in this film there are many things therefore, even the love of an actress who took her artistic profession seriously.
You’ve missed one !? which he produced & directed a few scenes & I think is the most underrated film ever “ My name is Nobody “ it’s the most gorgeous film with a brilliant Morricone soundtrack
This film is on you tube and you can clearly see which scenes Leone directed himself. Watch the scene where a dog gets up and walks across the road. Genius and totally Leone. It's a great film and highly recommended. Also one of Morricone's most under rated scores.
When you have a great body of work like the films of Sergio Leone (in quality not quantity), I find it hard to put them into a list of order and prefer to think of them as a collective jewel where some facets shine a little brighter than others. The brightest facet for me is FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, which was the first Leone I saw in the cinema when it was released. I love the others too, but nothing can compare to that first feeling I had when watching something I felt was totally unique at the time. After all these years, I still enjoy viewing it. 🔫 💵
It's interesting seeing Leone's Westerns elevated to "classic" status. When they were released they were dismissed, ignored, or ridiculed by critics. (I'm old-- I read the reviews). My favorite Leone movie: For a Few Dollars More. Incidentally, the three "Dollars" movies plus Eastwood's wretched Hang'Em High were once released in a quadruple feature to drive-ins. It made for a long, long evening. I know. I sat in the car.
1. The Good The Bad The Ugly 100% 2. A Fistful Of Dollars 97% 3. For A Few Dollars More 96% 4. Once Upon A Time In The West 94% Working on seeing the other 3
I'm baffled by what reckoning you find the first spaghetti western better than the second! I think the second is the best of the three - it's more personal, more psychologically complex, more intimate, more mysterious - and it has the best music!
GBU Might be the greatest movie of all time. The kind of movie you hear people talking about how cool and awesome it is and when you watch it is even better Also If Chris Evans shoots a Kid in the face today (in a movie) not even that would be on par with Henry Fonda killing a child in OUTW, that was a heel turn for the ages.
Great ranking. I agree that Once Upon in the West is slow and that's what I like the least about it, though it's a great movie. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is also a long movie, but it doesn't waste a minute. You barely even notice that 3 hours have past when it concludes.
7. Rhodes of Colossus 6. Duck You Sucker 5. For A Few Dollars More 4. Once Upon A Time In The West 3. A Fistful Of Dollars 2. Once Upon A Time In America 1. The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly
You are so correct on the good, the bad and the ugly as the greatest western of all time it’s mine too. The final shoot out at sad hill cemetery is the best ever filmed it takes more than 15 minutes with little dialogue the tension builds and builds it’s just unmatched !
For me, you must be kidding, putting For a few dollars more over "Once Upon A Time In America" what a shame. You must have looked but not seen the movie.
For a Few Dollars More just fit my personal taste way more. It's really fast paced, it's tight, punchy, constantly engaging. Once Upon A Time In America is a masterpiece, as I've said. I just think it has a few moments where it drags, it's a bit too slow, it could've been shorter, and it's more of a chore to sit through than Few Dollars More.
I could propose to put ure nr 2 on nr 1. U have to admit the following, the characters in The Good..Ugly are more 'flat' then the charachters in 'Once..West.' Clint Eastwood for example, is brilliant in his role, but his role is more one sided, he is only nonchalant, cool but focused. He has no past and no future. Tuco, and I love Tuco, is a crook with a heart, but the psychological profile(or acting talent?) isnt as deep as Cheyenne's. Both movies have this 'triangular relationships' between protagonist -friend of protagonist - antagonist. The Good...Ugly for the story itself, is also more one coincidence after the other u could say, It is faster, but less realistic and 'mature'. In Once..West Mr Harmonica is there to end something, the beautifull and one of the main characters, Claudia, who also bears a secret, wants to start up something. It is a multi layered story and has a gorgeous woman in it. The sound track also has more 'different emotions' then the soundtrack on Good...Ugly. If u would have put Clint in Once...West, it wouldnt have worked. This slowness u mention, for me it creates a tension, makes it more dramatic, give room to detail like a cricket caught in a barrel, the sound of the blowing of the wind, I think Once..West is arguably the better movie. It is my fav movie of all times and the soundtrack is a part of it. How the characters all have a different tune, wich emphasize their characters. It has drama, action and mysticism/mr. harmonica and transformation if times. But dont get me wrong, i love all these movies as well. Peace!
@@IaMD.B. for me these movies are the 'Vermeers' of Hollywood, no matter how much tom cruise bruce willis etc etc etc try hard to save the world or whatever....these are the best to ever come out of a hollywood studio/production company, for me. Next to the original black and white Frankenstein and Dracula movies. Have a good day !
Hi dude, great Job doing this review. I agree with you, my list doesn't look very different than yours. I want to mention that Leone did some more (comedian) movies made in Italy that are masterpieces as well. I suggest you to watch "un sacco bello" or "Bianco Rosso e verdone" for instance, but they are in Italian language only (maybe). I don't know if there are subtitle... For me as an Italian guy I can tell, those films are just one of the bests comedy movies from Italy made in Italy :) peace and love. Oh from the Western Movies I like the most where Clint Eastwood is in there ;)
I'm 19, and only *just* discovering Sergio Leone films. I hate my generation not talking about this stuff much anymore. It's just garbage like Marvel films and whatnot.
western classification: 1. Leone's westerns 2. other westerns the good, the bad and the ugly, I agree with everything you said, I stopped counting how many times I've watched it, even though the movie lasts almost three hours, when it's over you wonder "is it over yet?"

Duck you sucker is overlooked because of its vision of politik and revolution: too personal, disillusioned and anti-romantic for a generalist audience. In Italy leftist critics destroyed the movie for this reason but the italian audience (and I'm one of them) have alwayes loved it at the same level of the other Leone's movies.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is my favourite movie of all times. Thanks for the upload.
just spotted what looks like a industrial pig farm or similar in the back ground @ 11.22.🐽 no worries love the films anyway, probably swap one and two round.
Great video. One very small correction: the bad doesn't kill the entire family in the opening scene. He kills only the father and one of the sons. The lady of the house and the other little boy are spared.
Even more ruthless for the survivors, I would say...
Yes, and then he kills the guy who hired him. Each of the trio are introduced by killing three men a piece.
Duck You Sucker is free on YT in case you're interested
Thanks for letting me know. Definitely need to carve some time out and watch that. Have wanted to for years now
You look like American? I spent a year as an
exchange student in Pittsburgh PA 1984-85. Got the funny hat and two propousal from Uncle Sam: The US ARMY and NAVY sent me letters come on join, You
get green card.
"For a few dollars more is lighthearted"
I mean...
one of the villain's first scenes is him ordering the murder of a woman and her 18 month old baby.
Also it's about avenging a rape.
"i know, you hate me just enough"
For A Few Dollars More is my number 1 choice but to each his own. one thing you can't deny is they're all great movies!
I’m one of those guys that thought For a few dollars more was a much better film than fistful (though fistful is awesome) I think it just has the stigma of being right in the middle of Leone’s grand entry into the Mainstream and his pinnacle The good, the bad and the ugly. And as such gets very underrated
I also think for a few dollars more is better than fistfull
"For a Few Dollars More" is the best of the trilogy - in my not-so-humble opinion!
Truer words have never been spoken:)
It is bizarre which UA-cam videos get the most views. This is an informative, well edited, and narrated video. Well done. I came here because of Tarantino's love of this director. You also did a great job of describing why you appreciated these movies without spoiling them for (people like me) who haven't seen them.
Thank you very much:) Really appreciate it
You should watch them. Tarantino is one of my favourite directors, but Leone is something special. The good, the bad and the ugly is one of the few movies that can be titled the best of all time.
Sergio Leone may not be good with Sword and Sandal epic
I say he is better with Guns- and- Saddles epic
7: The Colossus of Rhodes - 2.5/4
6: Duck, You Sucker! - 3/4
5: For a Few Dollars More - 3/4
4: A Fistful of Dollars - 3.5/4
3: Once Upon a Time in America - 4/4
2: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - 4/4
1: Once Upon a Time in the West - 4/4
Absolutely agree.
Giu La Testa, Once upon a time in the west. Is my most Sergio Leone's favorite movies
Appreciate the video
I pretty much agree with this completely except I would swap the number 1 and 2 positions over. OUATITW is the greatest because of the dynamic between the main characters. It is an incredible tour de force and I don't find the pace a problem at all and it has greater emotional depth than TGTBATU. Jill is an incredible heroine and his other films don't have that.
6: A Fistful of Dollars
5: Once Upon a Time in America
4: Duck, You Sucker
3: For a Few Dollars More
2: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
1: Once Upon a Time in the West
NO NO NO! WAİT! I think nuber 2 should be For A Few Dollars More and Once Upon A Time in America should be number 4. And... I dont know! all (exeptt first film!) films of him are masterpace! :)
I check out a lot of movie discussion/review channels. You’re definitely one of the better ones. Keep it up, it’ll catch on
Wow, thank you so much Susan. I'll definitely keep it up!

1. Once Upon a Time in the West
Well I just learned that Two Mules for Sister Sara wasn't a Sergio Leone movie. I guess just because it stars Clint Eastwood and has an Ennio Morricone score doesn't automatically mean Sergio Leone.
Sergio Leone is his own sub genre to be honest
Super dope video, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is a masterpiece.
Great video, and a great list. My only input would be to put America above For a Few 👏
I would swap over the order of your final two - I think Once Upon A Time In The West is a more complete film. I think the dialogue, the acting, the music (I love that each character has their own musical signature) and the cinematography are at their best in Once Upon A Time In The West.
Me too. Once Upon A Time #1, Good, Bad and Ugly #2 and all the rest in any order you want.

#1 The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
#2 For a Few Dollars More
#3 Once Upon a Time in America
#4 Once Upon a Time in the West
#5 Duck, You Sucker!
#6 A Fistful of Dollars
#7 The Colossus of Rhodes
I can also see a more mature list where "For a Few Dollars More" is at #4, while "il West" and "America" are #2 and #3, respectively.
U & me have the same taste of movies!
Picking a favorite Leone film is almost impossible. But my personal favorite is Duck You Sucker.
Nah, part 4 Ounce upon a time in america? No way, this is his masterpiece behind The Good, the Bad, the Ugly.´
But this is a great list! Good video!
He didn´t direct My Name is Nobody, he just wrote it. Tonino Valerii did.
@@MrCarpen7er he directed a couple of scenes?
This film is on you tube and you can clearly see which scenes Leone directed himself. Watch the scene where a dog gets up and walks across the road. Genius and totally Leone. It's a great film and highly recommended. Also one of Morricone's most under rated scores.
@@ericcoyle3520 and the guy having the piss in the station , it’s a great movie
When you have a great body of work like the films of Sergio Leone (in quality not quantity), I find it hard to put them into a list of order and prefer to think of them as a collective jewel where some facets shine a little brighter than others. The brightest facet for me is FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, which was the first Leone I saw in the cinema when it was released. I love the others too, but nothing can compare to that first feeling I had when watching something I felt was totally unique at the time. After all these years, I still enjoy viewing it. 🔫 💵
Robert Aldrich afirmou que S. Leone co- dirigiu Sodoma and Gomorrah. No entanto não aparece nos créditos.
1. The Good The Bad The Ugly 100%
2. A Fistful Of Dollars 97%
3. For A Few Dollars More 96%
4. Once Upon A Time In The West 94%
Working on seeing the other 3
I'm baffled by what reckoning you find the first spaghetti western better than the second! I think the second is the best of the three - it's more personal, more psychologically complex, more intimate, more mysterious - and it has the best music!
You know it's classic when Metallica uses The ecstasy of Gold to start their shows!
Hell yeah!
GBU Might be the greatest movie of all time. The kind of movie you hear people talking about how cool and awesome it is and when you watch it is even better
Also If Chris Evans shoots a Kid in the face today (in a movie) not even that would be on par with Henry Fonda killing a child in OUTW, that was a heel turn for the ages.
#1. Once Upon a Time in the West.
All of his others are in a tie for 2nd!!!!!
Great ranking. I agree that Once Upon in the West is slow and that's what I like the least about it, though it's a great movie. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is also a long movie, but it doesn't waste a minute. You barely even notice that 3 hours have past when it concludes.
7. Rhodes of Colossus
6. Duck You Sucker
5. For A Few Dollars More
4. Once Upon A Time In The West
3. A Fistful Of Dollars
2. Once Upon A Time In America
Sean is the Irish version of John.
72% Agree word to word (esp No.1), 28% haven't seen the movies.
I totally agree with the ranking you made of Gergio Leone's works. I love all of them according to the order you made.
I always thouhht Steiger was influenced by Eli.Wallace's Tuco If your gonna copy ...copy from the best
Love it this made me listen to music from afdm
My personal favorite will always be Once Upon a Time in America. Masterpiece through and through
No more then The Good The Bad The Ugly andithe never othets will make a such a Movie So Brovo
Peace!
I agree with you that Once is a more mature, deep and complex story, but Good Bad Ugly has an energy that makes it more appealing for me.
@@IaMD.B. for me these movies are the 'Vermeers' of Hollywood, no matter how much tom cruise bruce willis etc etc etc try hard to save the world or whatever....these are the best to ever come out of a hollywood studio/production company, for me.
I really wanted to like Once Upon a Time in America but I just couldn't. Maybe I should give it another try. There were some great parts it in still.
western classification:
1. Leone's westerns
2. other westerns
the good, the bad and the ugly, I agree with everything you said, I stopped counting how many times I've watched it, even though the movie lasts almost three hours, when it's over you wonder "is it over yet?"
I love your ranking. The good the bad and the ugly is also my favorite movie of all time. My only change would be to make once upon a time in America #3. For a few dollars more 4. I would probably rank a fistful of dollars above duck you suckers
Well The Good The Bad The Ugly is one of the best movies ever made. Period. It's not like there weren't so many incredible movies but this was... Even Sergio Leone couldn't do better than that.
I've learnt over the years that unofficial remakes are somehow mostly good if not better. Like The thing, TLOTR trilogy, James Bond etc.
I've still only seen 4 of his movies. Once Upon a Time in America, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good, the Bad & the Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars. I absolutely love all of them but I'll simply say that Once Upon a Time in America is the only movie that has caused me to write an email to Criterions suggestion email to request that they add it to the collection. Both inspired by how much of a masterpiece it is and by that Blu ray release being out of print lol. Great video.
This list is so unfathomably based
…aka almost the same as mine
Good video man! Sergio Leone is my favourite of all time. Little bit gutted about Once Upon Time in America being 4th... cant blame you tho
Thank you:)
I can definitely understand people who rank America higher... Such a great film.
Very nicely done. ❤️ Curious-what is your native language (your English is almost too precise-especially the "T"s! 😉). Thanks!
My native language is Hebrew:) I'm Israeli. But from ages 9-12 I lived in Boston. That's where my English is from.
i could not choose between the good the bad and the ugly and once upon a time in the west. they are both the most epic films ever made the only film that comes close is ridley scotts gladiator
I film di SergioLeone sono indimenticabili li ruvedi sempre con grandentusiasmo
As a huge fan of Leone's productions i' m 100% agree with you. You know very well the argument and have the correct passion.
Fistfull of dynamite is my favorite ❤
I like "Once Upon a Time in the West" best for all the reasons stated in this video.
Colossus Of Rhodes was a great effort IMO.
Once upone the time in the west is the best movie ever
amazing video.
Thank you!
Even his worst film is still pretty damn good. The six remaining are some of the best FILMS ever, in my opinion. Great stuff
6. Once Upon a Time in America
5. Duck, You Sucker!
4. A Fistful of Dollars
3. Once Upon a Time in the West
2. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
1. For a Few Dollars More
Bravo. Loved the video. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, and helping me decide which Sergio Leone film to show my friend.
For a few dollars more is my fav 😊
Fantastic! I can’t wait for this Channel to blow up. Great work as always.
Thank you so much:)
It Happened One Night is next;)
Please share this video with your friends.
Help me blow this channel up!:)
duck you sucker is my favorite
I have to say... I totally agree with you!
I only saw Duck, You Sucker for the first time 2 weeks ago... it is amazing, and I am amazed that I have never really heard of it before, certainly never any buzz about it.
There are a few good versions of it on UA-cam, that's how I watched it on my TV.
