The key is the AX88179 chipset. Android has built in support for that ethernet chip. It doesn't matter what brand the adapter is. It doesn't matter if it's USB-A or USB-C. If you have an adapter with that chip you will be good.
One final note. If you can't find an adapter that specifically says it uses the AX88179 chip then look for one that is compatible with the Nintendo Switch. This is basically the only USB ethernet chip that works with the Nintendo Switch. Just another way to find an adapter that will work with your Android devices.
@@TheRealJoelKolb I'm looking to pick one up at a reasonable price. I saw a couple that had the gigabit Ethernet+USB3 ports. Any particular recommendations?
Thank you so sooo much, I got the adapter Tp-Link UE306 which is compatible with the N-Switch, so I bought an OTG USB 3.0 A to type C and it worked immediately, I'm really deeply appreciate of your help. P.S: Sorry bout my English, I'm not a native speaker but I got to say THANK YOU!
I was getting about 70 to 140 Mbps on wifi. Did this and now get 270 on Ethernet. Thanks so much dude. I tried the UGREEN Ethernet to USB-C single adaptor first. Didn't work actually. So I returned it and got this double adaptor setup like you and it worked. Nice extra crisp streaming now.
IT is also important to have a compatible ethernet switch. I originally was connecting the ethernet adapter and USB-C adapter combination mentioned in this video through a LINKSYS EZXS55W ver. 3 (5-port 10/100 Workgroup Switch). When using this combo, the Tivo Stream 4K did not even recognize that there was an ethernet adapter connected it. However, I had purchased a netis model ST3108GC 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch in the fairly recent past and used the Ethernet Adapter // USB-C adapter combination through it and the TIVO Stream 4K then recognized the ethernet adapter and connected successfully to my network through it. I post this comment to help others so that they do not needlessly face the same configuration headaches that I experienced in getting the Ethernet Adapter -- USB-C adapter combo to work with the Tivo Stream 4K. The short lesson is that in addition to using the Ethernet Adapter - USB-C adapter combo mentioned in the video, it also matters what ethernet switch you use along with this combo so that the ethernet connection works successfully.
I'll take 100+ mbps via wired over 200+ wireless. Still more than enough speed to stream. Just ordered a Tivo stream device and may be ordering that ethernet adapter next
Did you use the adapter plugged into the otg cable and plug the otg cable into the micro usb slot? I have that same otg splitter, but my wireless dongle for my airmouse won't recognize unless the otg cable is plugged into the usb c. This prevents me from using the usb c connector for anything else.
Great video Triple M. I was interested, as well as others I see in the comment section, in the Type-C ethernet adapter. I took it upon myself to read all the previous comments that I saw and decided to look into an adapter that also contained the same chipset as the one needed for a Nintendo Switch, and It connected flawlessly (ASIX AX8817X or the ASIX 88772). I choose the former in an adapter easily and quickly obtained from Amazon.
Also I have the OTG wire can I just plug in theUGREEN Network Adapter USB 3.0 to Ethernet RJ45 Lan Gigabit Adap...or do I still have to buy another adapter
How do you stream from the shared folders from my PC or NAS to be played back on the Tivo Stream 4K using KODI? I don't see it under the storage option like I do on my Nvidia Shield.
Found this video when searching if this device was compatible with ethernet. The whole thing looks a bit complicated if you have to try different devices to find what works. Why doesn't TiVo include or recommend specific accessories to make their product work correctly? It seems very interesting but I think I will stick with my Fire Cube for now.
👍👌🇨🇦❤, thanks MMM, I always use a Ugreen usb hub with ethernet, much better than any other ethernet adapter, great video, Ugreen is usually around 480 mbs,

Yo bro great video as always. I'm tryna see if theres a way to hard restart it. U know like the firestick u hold the play and select button and it will restart. Also I love that the apps dnt stay open in the background only tubi and pluto
For years I've wanted to ditch Roku. This TiVo device looks very appealing as a good enough alternative; however, no apple TV+ (NO, sideloading the Amazon fire app for that will NOT work on ANY Android TV device) and by the time you add up all these little accessories you're adding around an additional $30.00 or so to the discounted $50. I might as well wait for black Friday/prime day for fire TV cube to sell for around the same amount of money and it includes everything needed including Ethernet adapter plus double the storage. Now things will truly get interesting once the price starts going way under $50
Neat stuff TM. I’m not sure this question I have a WiFi section as I seen n your unit and I have my Ethernet cable plugged into the Ethernet port on my Android box but in my settings if I want to put in my Ethernet password which is my router password that gives ones isp. Number then they know who you really are behind that VPN so we expose ourselves by doing that. Or should ?I plug in the Ethernet into my tv and not my tv box ?
Can you make a video about how well it performs, like lunch apps and waiting for it to see load up to see long long it takes, and how well it performs using UA-cam TV Netflix etc.
Try adjusting your resolution or refresh rate to a specific setting versus letting it automatically detect. Try adjusting the video settings down and it should resolve itself.

You can make this happen yourself by button remapping. (there is an app in the Google play store.)just be careful not to replace anything important.
