I literally just looked for this because of Phelous. But for what it's worth, that Beast would have been nightmare fuel for me as a kid! Looks kinda like a vampire. Looks very much like something that'd come from Tim Burton's mind.
This gothic version of Beauty and the beast is so gloomy and spooky yet I'm not afraid. With all due respect, I prefer the Happily ever after fairy tales for every child version of the segment and the Disney film adaptation of it that I love so much.
This segment captured my imagination when I was a kid and it still does now. I wish I knew more about the creative process behind it. With its solemn Beauty, abundance of darkness, greyish colors, vivid glowing blues, long stretches of quiet, and its terrifying, alien-looking Beast, it's all rather nightmarish, yet also unique and compelling. The Disney version's understandably better-known, and this one isn't perfect, but it's still very good, especially given its budget and length. I wonder what a higher-budget 20-minute version would've looked like.
oh my God I thought I would never see these again I used to watch them with my babysitter when I was little I am 34 now and I had it on VHS at one point in my life and I've never thought TV show ever again whoever uploaded this thank you so much it brings back so many memories
The way Pat Morita appeared from his head was the only thing from all Britannica’s Tales Around the World that scared me when I was little. We owned these tapes and threw them in the dumpster years back. We now have the DVDs, but was a big mistake due to lack of Pat Morita’s introduction from every story. Never returned online, which was tough.
I wish someone would upload all the episodes of this nightmare fuel. My cousin who watched me as a baby used to punish me by making me watch the one with the story from the Middle East where the witch is like a demon cat thing. Plus we had a big screen TV back then.
On top of it, in one of the more common versions of the story, the father sliced Sedna's fingers off as she was trying to get back in the boat... I can see why this was changed in this adaptation.
Not only that, she for some reason forgives him and her father stay with her in the end. If I were Sedna, I would create sharks and maul him to death. I would improve this cartoon segment by Sedna thrown overboard by the waves instead of her father and her father tried to save her.
so in the sedna story, the father who drowned his own daughter ended up living with her and having a great life...great morals. Lesson of the day kids: if you drown your daughter, you become the dad of a goddess.
I used to watch this ALL the time when I was a kid. I always thought the first was the best and the last was super boring, but I watched it all over and over again, anyway. haha
Beauty and the Sorcerer: Lady Morrigan Lee as a Belle, Darko the Sorcerer (is a Ekimmu?!) as a Beast, Hat Professor as a Lumiere, Alan as a Clock, Lantuch as a Chip, Penanggalan Maiden as a Mrs. Pott, Rakshasa Lord as a Gaston, Sendar as a Le'Fou, Timberwolves as a Wolves, Willa as a Fifi the Dusted Feather, Sekhmet as a Enchantress, Crone Hag as a Older Hag, Zlateh as a Sultan Gronam Ox as a Maurice?!
Hannah Cameron In the original tale, Sedna rose a storm and drowned her father. Also she was a total bitch and her dad chopped off her fingers, and those turned into the first seals, walruses and whales. Or who knows, maybe it's just one of many versions.
The voice acting for the Beauty and the Beast segment was pretty nice, but the effort that went into the art wasn't so bad. Animation was a bit wanky, but the stylizing of it was alright.
It was. That’s probably one of the most beast-like Beasts I'd ever seen--Disney's Beast tends to be "ugly cute" or even straight adorable. Of course, I think Disney has the more endearing Beast personality-wise, since we get to see him learning to be gentle and civilized again from Belle.

The voice acting in this series is uniformly superb.

It works both ways.
That's a bit sexist. Women are capable of a loss of temper as wel, some of them quite shockingly so. It's a human thing.

For such a rushed and shabby retelling, I gotta say they at least had a unique and strangely appealing take on the Beast.
Neither rushed nor shabby.
@@MaskedMan66 Yes, it is rushed. Both characters of Beauty and Beast have very little to no character.
At least it makes up for the lack of substance with style. It has that over most of its peers, who don't have style in the budget.
Neither rushed nor shabby.
This is kind of how I pictured a Tim Burton retelling of The Beauty and the Beast to be like.
Heck, he should alo do other adaptions to Grimm's Fairy Tales
Josephine Taylor I would love it if he did beauty and the beast, and they could make it stop motion like Coraline or Paranorman
Yep. That's the kind of animation Tim Burton would do for the Brothers Grimm stories.
Yeah, Beauty looks a little bit like Wednesday Adams doesn't she?
Agreed, except she’s tall and her hair not in braids.
I literally thought i would never see this again! I had the video VHS back in the 90's when i was little
Me too I’m so glad I found it it took me awhile of searching but finally found it!
I love this rendition of the beast; horrific and grotesque, but a gentle soul, unlike that prat from the Golden Films version...
Agreed. Tim Burton would love this version of Beauty and the Beast.
How about Prince Koro the African beast?

No doubt about it.
I remember watching this as a kid and it gave me nightmares 💀
This beast design is perfection. He's sort of good-looking as a beast in the Disney version, here he looks legitimately grotesque.
This Beauty and The Beast segment traumatized me as a child. They really did a good job at making this so gloomy and terrifying.
I was always so scared of these stories as a child

True. My guess is they removed Pat's segments mainly to avoid having to pay him or his estate royalties to use his voice and likeness.
The story looks like a Tim Burton art!!!
Ha. The Federal warning at the beginning alone reminds me of childhood

Hello, thank you for sharing this.
This design for the beast really deserves to be in a better movie, he looks like something out of Bloodborne.
