depends how much inventory you want to start with, how good of creative you want to invest in (photo, video, branding, packaging, copy, infographics, UGC), and how aggressive you want to go with marketing (amazon ads, giveaways), but I like to say at least $20-40k per product in general for startup cost all in - 10k for inventory, 5k for creative, $3000/mo in Amazon PPC ads for 6 months. I like to say you should not expect to be profitable for the first year. Aim to hit the break even point after 3-6 months, then stay at a break even price until your reviews and ranking is built up to a satisfactory place until you start testing regular prices.

@ 7:07 you can't set up a subscribe and save on a new product. Amazon doesn't allow it until it gathers sales history.
