  • This is an unboxing of a Singer Featherweight from 1949. My intent in purchasing her was to repaint her but I am on the fence about that after seeing her condition. Come on this journey with me, won't you please?

Fabric was a gift from Marie's Scrappy Creations ‪@MariesScrappyCreations‬

I have two 1948s here. One is pristine from an original family member. The other is a restoration pained a beautiful blue. Other FWs in other locations. 💜💜💜 AuntieEllen

Good morning, Sew Terie! I was going to say that nothing could be cuter than that darling little face on Sebastian, but that sewing machine runs a close second. It would be a tough decision to know which is cuter… (just joking! We know it’s Sebastian)! I like how you show the packaging so that we know how the machine arrived. I’m sure that not everyone packages things as well as they should be and then some people put a lot of care into it. My husband collects trains and he recently bought a couple of vintage trains on eBay. When the box got here last week, it wasn’t that they weren’t packaged enough… nothing was broken, everything was in good shape, except for one issue. They had used some old Styrofoam that was crumbly (and I’m all about reduce reuse recycle), but because the Styrofoam was old, it broke up during shipment and was all up inside the tiny motor and all around the tiny inside parts of that small train and so, as you can imagine, he had quite a mess to deal with. I mentioned to him that he might want to let that seller know, in case they ever tried packaging like that again, because someone else might send it back for that packaging issue, especially if it caused damage (he didn’t want to “complain”).
Either way, back to your 221 from the wonderful year of 1949. I can’t wait to find out what you name this machine, as I love all the unique names that you come up with. I know you were looking forward to painting this machine, as you thought it would need it, but I tend to agree that it doesn’t, and I actually like all those little marks or pin scratches, because they add character. The problem, in my opinion, with painting over those, is that it’s erasing part of the history of the machine. For me, when I look at a vintage sewing machine, I always wonder about how the person used it, in this instance, what they made with the machine. Maybe it was mostly clothing for themselves and their children, or maybe they took in mending, or maybe they were a quilter, etc. It’s so hard to know, and we usually never can find out, but it’s a history.
I believe you are correct that it was cared for and serviced very well throughout its lifetime, so that makes me feel better about the whole thing too! The case and bags that you sewed to hold the machine with the Celtic decals are beyond amazing. You are so talented! I’m not really sure what you mean by a cracked block, but don’t worry about explaining, that’s my bad for not understanding. Also, I have a question. Do you plan on filming repairs on these machines and making a playlist, possibly?
Thank you for the shout out and you’re more than welcome for the fabric! I’m just glad that it happened to be laying on the cutting table at Mardens the day that I was there. I hope you enjoy every little bit of it and I can already see that you put it to perfect use. Thank you for another great video! 🥰🪡🧵✂️

Marie, you and I could talk all day. Here goes.
I like that she has history. I imagine those scratches were from repeated sewing, maybe something with sequins on it. So I want to imagine her being used to sew beautiful costumes. Maybe for the Rockettes!!! lol. Or for their child's dance school or acting school. See. I can go down the same rabbit hole with you.
She is not working as of right now. That happens sometimes. I am trying all the tricks and tips. She's a hot mess!!! So, sad to say if she has a major issue I may have to use her for parts. I have another machine that needs parts and painting. I will be patient with her and not rush into anything but I am at my wits end.
Thanks again for the fabric. That was a poetic marriage indeed. That little machine is not only gorgeous. She works.
As for me doing repair videos, I may not ever do that. I get all my info for others on youtube that have done that and I so I don't think we need ME and my thimble full of knowledge to venture down that path. I will from time to time point things out with little fixes but that's it. It is SO MUCH WORK DOING VIDEOS!!! as you already know. I know you have some machines that need help. I would check out @BobFowler and @sewingmachinerehab on here. And of course, @andytube. A wealth of knowledge and more than I could ever do or know. But thanks for the vote of confidence.
Thanks so much for watching and for commenting and caring. I appreciate it so much. Be well my friend. And Sebastian says Arf!!! Hi to Johnny.

@@sewterie Good morning, SewTerie! I absolutely love your idea of that machine having been used to sew costumes for the Rockettes. That has to be exactly what happened here. I love that your detective skills are spot on! If only these machines could speak… (no, I take that back, because we probably wouldn’t want to know everything that they have seen, ha ha!).
Thank you for the channel links about on sewing machine repair, I will definitely check them out and subscribe so that I can always find them. (I’ll tell hubby, too!). I hope today is a great day for you and that you have a wonderful week, my friend! Thank you for this video, I truly enjoyed it and have watched it quite a few times, at this point.
