He has a fantastic reaction to the video, reading the Japanese shown, detailing what he's seeing in connection to various movies like Female Prisoner 701: Scorpion, etc.
The wolf in the trailer stands out to me because the Ezo Wolf was hunted to extinction around 1900, so featuring one when they still roamed the island is cool.
I admit... I'm guilty of this too.✋️😔 I kept making male characters and it didn't click why until I realized I just wanted to look at beautiful men, lol. The only exception to this is if a game has romanceable male characters that I like; then I play as female. Even then, self-inserting is weirdly hard for me, so I'd rather make a totally original character anyway.

I felt like the western tones were such a good idea, because at this point in time in history, the area this game is set in was Japan's version of the wild west. The mainland Japanese were pushing into Hokkaido to take over the island from the Ainu. It was a frontier.
Not sure how many people caught it, but I like how in GoT trailers, flutes were heavily featured and Jin used a flute, and in these trailers, a shamisen is featured.
I think the thing about Endimion's Post is that He sees the decision to move 300 years into the future, is to have a female lead without the "You just switched protagonist" retorts. Which makes some sense. You your self said it, "Jin's dead already so ofcourse he can't be the protagonist." if they set it around the same time then people will mention it, with more credibility. In the end It's sad to see Jin go, but fans would be accepting of the next protagonist. If the actress was not so politically inclined, I don't think this would be and issue. But since she's out spoken about it, and there's a sudden change in protagonist (Male to female), along the current social climate. People are skeptical.

I don't think the majority of people complaining about the game have a problem with the graphics, some (myself included) are disappointed that is not a direct sequel, some are not happy with a female protagonist (this doesn't bother me) but I think the biggest red flag is the choice of the voice/mocap actress who is very political and very hateful towards certain people. Obviously we don't know enough to judge it yet but I am less excited about the game now
The trailers got a lot of red flags for me as well, zero combat, minimal shots with animation, all the game play footage is either walking foward, standing still or riding on a horse. It's showing off absolutely nothing and when a trailer shows nothing that tends to be a strong indicator the company doesn't have faith and is trying to hide things to protect sales
I'm personally skeptical optimistic. Though I don't blame anyone for not being into it for missing Jin or just not wanting to play as a female cause preferences exist. VA definitely doesn't help draw people in.
Right wing people when left wing people have an opinion they don’t like : THEY ARE EVIL DEI MONSTERS! WE SHOULD HAVE THEM REMOVED FOR THE GAME! THEY WANT ME DEAD! Right wing people when they push bigotry or conspiracy theories: We shouldn’t censor someone for their beliefs.
If it's just a woke actress, I wouldn't want to punish the whole studio, but if they hired Sweet Baby, I'll probably check out. The female protagonist swap is a small red flag, but they might equally just be trying to avoid this debate moving forward. Establish in the second game that you might get a female protagonist, then you don't have to give a Ubisoft statement in 10 years. Seems a solid plan, if you know how to market. For now, they're coming out mostly strong.
I really don't know why they (the game developers) always say that, like what? It's some sort of reverse psychology? They think people will take it as a challenge? They hope they're too big to fail, so they are just arrogant?
Personally I don’t really care as long as the actress’s personal political views aren’t being inserted into the game, we won’t know that until people get their hands on the game so let’s wait and see.
@@krono5elIt's not a matter of the VA writing the script for the game. It's possible the production team chose her because her political beliefs align with the story they want to tell.

Also people are frequently happy for the people in Hokkaido and Hokkaido getting some spotlight or some even saying they didn't even know about Yotei, or others thinking of visiting the place now. Apparently the developers went to Hokkaido to record wildlife sounds and such. Since japanese social media is not infested by culture war they also seem fine with "political correctness within reason" and "as long as they keep it respectful to the setting" and such stuff. Thank you Metatron. I am Japanese and please let me add my opinion, for whatever that’s worth. I didn’t take a survey, but I doubt many in Japan are angry that the protagonist is a woman. In fact, I think they would be excited. Japanese period films are filled with mulan-style badass women, sometimes with swords. A wide sentiment i heard even for AC shadows in Japan was that they were a-ok with Yasuke being a co-star (there’s already multiple media in Japan that stars yasuke to varying levels if historicity). It was Ubisofts claim to historical accuracy that annoyed people. But this is fiction, that’s only loosely historically inspired. People would not be angry if not for the context of western media’s recent blunders. It’s an understandable reaction, but an overreaction. At least as of now. “But how often would you see a woman Samurai!? Woke agenda!” They say. Lol I’m surprised so many western consumers are so attached to the conventions of Samurai gender. And this is an aside, what is this about her being “ugly”? Jin wasn’t some anime hot guy either, but he was very believably Japanese-looking. So is the lady in Yotei. She looks good, and looks the part. I am excited for a game set in Edo period Hokkaido. It’s a surprising choice, and a very interesting one.
I mean, you definitely know your countries history better than I would, but there were female samurai. Not like how it's portrayed in this Ghost game, more like in Tsushima with Adachi. But I'm sure there have been some that were like that. I'm excited for the game, and the trailer did get me excited like the first Ghosts game. I'll still reserve judgement until I play it.
If it was non-woke, the protagonist would be hot like the one in Stellar Blade. The fact that it features an ugly woman front and central means it was deliberately designed that way to appease radical feminists.

17:45 I think you unintentionally present what seems to be a false dichotomy of "maybe they didn't know about her views" or "maybe they did know AND chose her FOR THAT REASON".. I mean.. isn't it possible that they knew but didn't care about her own personal views, they hired her to be an actress and that's it.
It's because it would be a bad business move to hire someone that might have a negative reputation with the consumers. So, you would be stupid to hire the actress thinking it won't be important what her reputation is like in the real world. Hollywood isn't hiring Will Smith because of his reputation for example. So, you have to be on board with her views if you're going to hire her unless you're stupid business wise.
@@serganteddy5 based on the real life timeline and my guess on his age: Jin would be in his mid to late 20s so about 28 in the first game. The second invasion takes place 7 years later, so Jin would be at least 35. So he would definitely live through it. If he were to have a son, they should appear in during the fall of the kamakura shogunate about 59 years later. I have some personal thoughts on how the game handles hot springs. According to my shallow knowledge of history, there was a time in Japan when hot springs were bathed in clothing called yukata-bira, until the Edo period after 1603, when yukata-bira evolved into yukata (which is now common Japanese traditional summer clothing), and the custom of bathing in clothing gradually receded. The story takes place in 1605 in Hokkaido, which was not under Japanese control at the time, and not long into the Edo period, so perhaps Suker punch would have had the heroine wear a yukata-bira in the hot springs? Or maybe Suker punch would have simply had the player look at the heroine's back.

Considering the climate (and Sony), it's VERY easy to believe they put a female character in for no reason other than diversity, particularly when you consider who they cast. People loved Jin, and he still had a lot of story to tell. He was "The Ghost". And whether or not the game is "woke" doesn't matter to many beyond that, specifically because they've done this so many times. People will immediately see it as DEI, whether it is or not, because they're taking it from a much-beloved male protagonist to a female. And don't kid yourself, they would never do the reverse in 2024. It's unfortunate, but the reality is it doesn't matter if they're being genuine in just trying to tell a different story from a different perspective. This is not what people will see, and the creators know that, which again points to them doing this just to it for diversity's sake. Otherwise, why take that risk? You're right not to jump to conclusions. That said, I'm certainly approaching this game with trepidation for these reasons. I'm not remotely excited about it, because I'm expecting the worst thanks to the track record of modern games. I absolutely won't buy it until the reviews are in.
yes, this. and sure, don't jump to conclusions. but we can still make prediction and speculation, and for this case, based on knowledge and experience.
I'm going to hold an optimistic view on this one. I hope, for once in a while, that people of all political views could just make a solid game. In the 1990s, and to this day, my favorite shows were Star Trek, The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and The X-Files. Fast forward to today, and read into the political views of the creators of these shows, and I vehemently disagree with them. Did that ever enter into the shows I know and love? Barely, at times. It's OKAY to separate the art from the artists. Enjoy it for what it is, or you'll enjoy nothing. If you look hard enough, you'll surely find something "wrong" with what you try to love.
@@fabianbiere5653 i would disagree. it was quieter because of less access to the amplification of internet publicity and social media. the political correctness, and establishment pretending to be the underdog, was still there. just look at the history of publicly stated opinions of George Takei and Nana Visitor. they didn't just come from nowhere. Hollywood was always RED.
That spaghetti western ennio morricone sounding music got me hyped! Like the hoofbeats of a galloping horse, like the opening theme of the good the bad and the ugly.
I don't think the problem is the fact that the main character is female. I believe it's the fact that the development crew involved in making Ghost of Tsushima is nowhere in sight and all we see are radical individuals, Erika Ishii, that push the same BS that's ruined high potential games for the past several years.
It’s reported from insiders of sucker punch that original concept for the game was ghost of Tsushima 2 and for some reason they scrapped it and went with the female lead most likely a decision made from activists consulting that plagues the industry
Metatron, may this be one of the few videogames where very woke people contributing to it won't spill it in the game! I'm not at all optimistic that it will be the case considering the latest trends in videogames.
Considering Sony is behind it is also a huge red flag. We've seen how heavy handed they like to be with ESG compatable wokeness, like censoring stellar blade and FF7
@@Erowens98 what censoring stellar blade ? have you seen the latest update of it. That some companies wants some changes in outfits or so bc that let them sell them in a other age category is not bc of wokeness from that company its pure business .

Now that the game is out they dont care bc it already passed and the fans will get the new update anyway
lol, 90s girlbosses were almost always awesome. Obviously, my first crush goes much further back than Lara Croft, though, because mine was Blaze Fielding of Streets of Rage fame. Failing that, there was also the warrior chick from Golden Axe. Yeah, I much prefer staring at chicks in gaming, too, and back then they weren't third wave feminists.
but in the end, playable "girlbosses" like Lara coft are never ever this nonbinary lesbian DEI shit. There is no political agenda behind lara croft. So the play character is not forced to do things conforming such agenda. If you see a video game as a form of art, the wookists abuse art for the purpose of propaganda - so it ceases to be art.
I just love how the original storyline made you feel that honor vs victory conflict, obviously with the major plot points favoring the latter. You could still rock the overt armor no matter what though. I'm curious as to what the main character struggle will be in this one.
some say, "she is the one who inspire Miyamoto mushashi to dualwielding", which make it into an issues... because Miyamoto musashi is the one who comes up with it, not her... girl boss typical
Maybe both sides will finally realize that they both have fools who go off on everything, with a single track mind. It distracts from the real enemy behind the curtain
I hear you, but I think it would be naïve to think they chose a swordswoman for honest reasons instead of plausible deniability in trying to placate the woke as well as actual gamers, considering the current climate. You can't ignore the climate this has come out in, as much as you try. That's why Endymion's quote isn't "nonsense" - it makes perfect sense placed in the context of this years developments in gaming culture. You don't watch his channel but he does ex[lain it all in detail. We're all a little punch drunk for a reason, which is not "nonsense" and shouldn't be belittled.
Unless you have evidence, that’s simply speculation. Yes, the current games industry is rife with diversity for the sake of it. But this doesn’t mean every instance that looks like such on a surface level has in fact been done for purposes of activism.
My only problem with Metatron is how much he gives these people the benefit of the doubt. Sorry but I've been burned too many times and too badly to take things on faith anymore.
If she delivers really good performance and don't overuse her position, i see no problem. Should her performance be lacking... then someone made a really poor choice. As simple as that
Everyone's arguing about the female protagonist but I'm more concerned with the fact that the game technically isn't set in Japan, which means that either A) they will project a romanticized version of Japan onto what at the time was Ainu territory or B) the game won't feature any shrines, temples, pagodas, large castles (there was one smaller one) or major cities and will therefore be only wilderness and a few trade posts here and there
To be fair the game would be set near the Mount Yotei in Oshima's peninsula, which was more or less the boundary of the area ""secured"" by Japan. The Matsumae clan was the daimyo familly of the Matsumae domain given in 1590 (a decade before the game) by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Great Unifier of Japan, to defend it and thus Honshu (Japan maimland) from the Ainu. Furthermore in 1599 the first shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu regonized Matsumae's claim over all Ezo (today Hokkaido). So I think the game will have Matsumae, the coastal city in the south of the peninsula establihed in 1590, as the major city with temples and its castle (even if built in 1606 thus too late, I can accept it because it's cool castle), and few little towns/trade posts with some shrines the further we go north to I hope switching to Ainu settlements and landmarks. Personnally I can accept some Japan's romanticization (like the caslte or random shrines) if we also have Ainu representation.
@OdaManjiro True, but the difference here is that Tsushima at that time was already inhabited by ethnic Japanese people whereas Hokkaido wasn't, so a lot of people might (rightfully) call them out if they try to rewrite history in such a significant way.
Your take is a perfectly rational pre-2020 take. Institutions deserve no goodwill or benefit of the doubt at this stage. Pre-ordering or buying a game without pre-screening it for propaganda is effectively the same as supporting it, so I hope reserving judgement doesn't mean "buy it and complain about it later after they have your money".
It is only a couple of seconds, but you did miss a bit at the end showing some different weapons that will be available. As for the issue of the main character and her actress, woman =/= woke, and from what I know of her past work, she hasn't injected her politics into that. Also overall, I trust Sucker Punch.
The anti-woke crowd tries their damnest to find any justification to get their daily fix of outrage. Despite claiming to support free speech, they are on just as much of a witch hunt as the woke side.
It's going to depend on how far sucker punch wants to stick to the source material. Their previous game shows they will, so benefit of the doubt. Erika is a nutjob, but she may be there for the performance and that's it. If she wants a paycheck, ahe'll have to do the work. The moment i see them go to rewriting things or pushing her agenda... I'm out.
Ghost of Tsushima was pretty much entirely pure fantasy, a work of fiction. The only accurate to the "source material" is that Mongols invaded the island. Now, Ghost of Tsushima established in its world that warriwomen were common. So, if Ghost of Yotei sticks to its "source material," then female warriors won't be a problem.
I'll miss Jin but now that the protagonist is a lady my biggest question is...what will they choose to do with the hot springs?
Nioh 2 did it. The characters just go in with a towel.
SHOHEI KONDO believes a hot spring is clearly visible in the teaser in the final shot (also at 7:09 here) where you see the steam rising up.
He has a fantastic reaction to the video, reading the Japanese shown, detailing what he's seeing in connection to various movies like Female Prisoner 701: Scorpion, etc.
same as usual IF they dont censor it then it will get those anti woke people slightly happier
Whatever they do, it better be "lore accurate" :) And it was good enough for Jin in the first game...
Hot coffee.exe (20 years later)
The wolf in the trailer stands out to me because the Ezo Wolf was hunted to extinction around 1900, so featuring one when they still roamed the island is cool.
The wolves are probably gonna be in this game what the foxes were in the last game, that's my guess.
"Defund the Samurai". Oh my, that's golden.
To be honest, most Edo period samurai sure could use some defunding.

I thought that too, loved it.
Spaghetti Westerns are partially based on the old Samurai films so, it makes sense.
I felt like the western tones were such a good idea, because at this point in time in history, the area this game is set in was Japan's version of the wild west. The mainland Japanese were pushing into Hokkaido to take over the island from the Ainu. It was a frontier.
While not quite the same, I want to invite people here to read Wild West Murim, it's a blast

Obviously we don't know enough to judge it yet but I am less excited about the game now
My words exactly bro. Wanted Jin, disappointment with female lead and lost excitement due to DEI actress.

I mean.. isn't it possible that they knew but didn't care about her own personal views, they hired her to be an actress and that's it.

Wow. This video just earned you my sub. This is possibly the most middle of the road, LOGICAL breakdown of the situation I've ever seen. I absolutely agree with you 100%. As a voice actor, our personal lives have nothing to do with the projects we work on. IF political messaging is thrust into the game that is obviously not true to the time period, then, as you said, the line is drawn. Great vid!
That's what I have been saying. Actors can separate their irl lives to their jobs. But then again, it's the consumer who can't separate actors lives from fantasy.
I also agree with you about why I've subbed to Metatron as well.
Why is middle of the road automatically a good thing? You know, driving in the middle of the road will get you killed in real life.
Because it's an opinion and people's opinions should always be valid, regardless of whether we deem them right or wrong. Opinions aren't facts.
As a person who always tries to see both sides, I find it a breath of fresh air to see someone willing to see both sides of the coin than automatically fight to prove ONLY their side. Understanding both sides can leave room for one to be pleasantly surprised as opposed to just being a curmudgeon who doesn't like when things don't go their way. That's what children do.
To note: I would never say middle of the road is "automatically" good. In this case, I would say yes, but I would agree that a choice must be made with other things. Like your driving example. You mentioned the automatic, not me :)
Also, a middle of the road train of thought based on opinions is hardly the same as physically driving in the middle of the road. That's def apples to oranges lol

If your people are generally successful on their own without affirmative action or handouts, you get kicked out of the club no matter how black your skin is, as we see with many Indians who have more melanin that a lot of African-Americans. If a lot of your people are gangbangers, welfare recipients, drug users or poor uneducated menial laborers, and you depend on big gov for handouts, you're a POC. Otherwise, if you're successful by your own efforts, if a lot of your people are highly educated white collar professionals, and you don't need big gov to carry you, then you're not a POC and you're excluded.
My concern with Hokkaido is that the woke heads will obsess with ainu and make this an anti colonial narrative
Do you have any problems with that ?

I really appreciate the level headed analysis of the limited information available. People are using pain from woke content to become more race and gender divided
Here's the thing ... Those examples you gave of previous "girl boss" protagonists with their own games? They started as girl bosses and continued as girl bosses. They were never replaced with another character, and they weren't replacing an already-loved character. How many people do you think would have bought a Tomb Raider game which did not star Laura Croft, much less replaced her with a dude? There are modern games which have female protagonists as well, and they've succeeded (Nier Automata and Stellar Blade, among others).

Everyone's arguing about the female protagonist but I'm more concerned with the fact that the game technically isn't set in Japan, which means that either
A) they will project a romanticized version of Japan onto what at the time was Ainu territory
or B) the game won't feature any shrines, temples, pagodas, large castles (there was one smaller one) or major cities and will therefore be only wilderness and a few trade posts here and there
it's like forgetting they made GoT and they became ambassador because of the respect they showed the island.
iirc Ghost of Tsushima was also pretty anachronistic architecturally
Damn the Ainu are interesting didn't she was ruining their chance to shine🥲
I dont get this lien about her past work. Did you see the games she was involved in? Half of those were not that great, even more.
@@attilamarics3374 Okay and? I'm not talking about how great the games were, but if her politics were injected into them or not?
