    Great video! One point I would add is to remove the fill bolt completely so when you remove the bottom one it wont "splash all over the place". Thank you for doing these! Like button smashed, subscribed and bell rung

    Did my rear yesterday, easy-peasy thanks to your other video. Couldn't do the front since I didn't have jack stands (engine cover won't come off without enough clearance). One thing I can suggest to everyone, get the flex-fill containers of oil. (Valvoline makes one). It is a squeezable pouch! No pump necessary; made the job so much easier. Just stick the nozzle into the fill hole and squeeze.

    Thanks again, Bob, for your very detailed videos. I just replaced front/rear differential and transfer case oil. My experiences are:
    I did transfer case first. Ravenol 75W bottle cap has integrated spout - just twist and lift those tabs. Then squeeze the oil into transfer case.
    My front differential drain plug was seized and rounded off. Had to buy a new one, cut groove on old one & get if off with hammer and cold chisel.
    My bottle of 75W90 gear oil has nozzle on cap. I just connect the nozzle to a section of 3/8 ID vinyl tubing and hold them in place with handyman’s secret weapon… Much faster than hand pump.
    For those 24mm hex bolts… 15/16 shallow socket actually works better.

      @@chenyang2377 okay so the front diff drain is 10mm hex? same for the fill? I've got under the car this past weekend to change the front and rear diff fluid and I've tried to put a 10mm hex into the drain bolt and seemed way larger than 10mm hex and the largest size I had was 12mm hex so I couldnt change the fluid and had to figure out the exact size so I could go buy the bits.

  • @gwilli1754
    @gwilli1754 10 місяців тому

    On Allen bolts, if you can get part of the key in, you can then beat the key into the bolt and have it be reformed. I accidentally messed one up when tightening, and did not wish to have a nightmare on my hands next time I needed it out, and slowly worked in the socket and refreshed it. Not end of the road harbor freight has some Icon bits that can bite into them as well, but those destroy the bolts.

    Hi Bob, what do you think about using Idemitsu 75W90 Full Synthetic Gear Lube (2846-042)? OEM Motor oil recommendation is Idemitsu 0W20 and I thought maybe it's a good idea using same brand (appropriate viscouisty) gear oil...

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  15 годин тому

      Idemitsu is a really reputable lube company. They are up there with all the top tier lubes that i trust. Only reason why i don't push it in my vids is because they are not readily available at my local walmart or costco. I have stuck to mostly Mobil 1 for that reason especially when a sale hits. But if you have access to idemitsu, i'd go for it. Good product.

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Mickey. I did this at 70k only because that was the mileage i bought the SUV at. I normally change all my fluids the minute i take ownership regardless of what the previous owner said. Typically, i do my transfers and diffs at 30k intervals because i tow campers, trailers, hitches, and small boats. If you don't tow at all and drive on asphalt all day long to the mall and back, then the dealer doesn't really specify a mandatory transfer and diff change. These are fine prints under "special" driving conditions.

I said fck it, do it. Hence there are no videos for it. I kinda regret it because the contents i see on youtube are way too elaborate for my type of tranny fluid exchange. Hey Ben, technically you're only supposed to replace the differential oil every 15k if you're towing, have a heavy roof rack, or doing some heavy loads. Under normal driving conditions, its just a "inspect" and replace as needed. Regardless, i change out mine every 15k anyways but the issue is i never keep my car long enough to get past the 15k mark. lol.

      HI Brian, i replace mine every 15k miles. Lexus requires it if you do towing or carry heavy loads such as boats and RV's. There is no need to replace if you do normal driving except to just check the fluid level and condition every 30k.

      Here is the Lexus maintenance schedule. Go to the pages in the back to see all maintenance schedules. It looks like you should replace every 15k miles if you're towing or carrying a load. Otherwise I typically change every 30k for peace if mind even if Lexus says I don't have to.
