Considering I once owned a BONE stock 2002 GT, I 100% agree with this list. Hated how high the car sat from the factory and always wanted a Mach 1 Lip. But thankfully now that I have a Mach 1, all of these (other than a short throw shifter) are all taken care of :)
Agree on some of these. The chin spoiler is a must. The one from American Muscle, which I have on my 2003 Mustang is from them and it is not designed to be installed how you did it. It is supposed to be flush at the two sides where it meets the wheel openings and sit about an inch back in the front. Looks way better and more aggressive than having it flush with the front of the bumper. One major thing left off your list that really goes hand in hand with the exhaust is a cold air intake. For me, my list was exhaust, cold air intake, headers/off-road h-pipe, chin spoiler, and Cobra style rims. Great video though. Keep ‘em coming!
Buffalo New York here brother !!!!! Exchange street drag racing ... Ship canal nights ..... Unfortunately furman Blvd has speed bumps every 100 feet or so now 😢
Exhaust would be my #1 hands down always. Loved how the new edge sounds. Bassani O/R X and Borla Stingers is my pick or another good choice is spintech with an O/R H.
Custom wheels, cold air intake, catback exhaust ( or do the whole thing) performance tires, hurst shifter. Boom. 5 cheap mods that will already give better performance and sound and won't break the bank.
1) Hurst short throw (or even steeda tri ax) with Hurst 'chrome upper stick' and whatever shifter ball you choose and the shifter being out of reach is no longer an issue 2) changing brands for the midpipe will only change fitment. the sound would still be the same with a bassani x pipe and your flowmaster catback. but that being said, borla atak catback with an off-road x pipe is a great sound with these motors. I know from experience lol!
Thumbs up for 90% of the video except the 2V comment. You can make them extremely fast with a simple blower install and supporting mods. There are plenty centri/positive displacement blowers that you can get used $2500+ and have 375-400rwhp GT easily. The GT cars are are under 3300lbs so there quicker than a stock terminator with a good driver. Overall, great video keep them cranking man!
Yes I see what you mean. My main goal is to get 700hp out of blue when all said and done, I should have made it more clear to the viewers that it wouldnt be practical to try and do that with a 2v motor. Thats why i'm going coyote and whipple in the future. Thanks for watching though!
Great goals! If you need a little guidance on what mods to do other than drive-train just drop a shoutout. Now that you've done the smaller mods. You really should focus on suspension if you can...for instance: FULL subframe connectors, lower control arms, etc etc. These cars need a lot of bracing when you get the chassis into those HP figures.
Just acquired a 99 35th anniversary V6 stang. Best daily driver ever! Comfortable quiet ride, still has some power to pass semi trucks on the highway. Not a 10sec car but it still turns heads! Wish it had a larger fuel tank though.
Jaggsta They aren't necessarily one of the 1st 5 Mods that are a must... when I get my New Edge rims/wheels it will probably be a year before I get them because you want to get a idea of a theme( or color scheme) you are going to go with before you drop the bread on nice ads rims/tires
Alright I have 2 suggestions for you. 1.) 99&00 no hood scoop. I got for my 03 a prepainted MMD hood scoop which comes with a Cobra Jet like insert from American Musle! 2.) You will never ever go wrong with Borla. I got the Steeda's which is made by Borla and is cheaper with an o/r H pipe on my car. The bigger mufflers cleans out any rasp, gives the deepest tone your going to find and screams when you get on it! I have a video on on here of my exhaust. Great video again and your New Edge is looking great!
I’m getting a 2004 40th anniversary as my first car, my dad fell in love with it and wants to deck it out like he’s always wanted to and this will help
I just got an 04 Stang REALLY cheap about a month ago, been driving it everyday and haven't had any issues...so I'm bout to mod something on it...just cruising UA-cam for ideas, thanks! ✌
NatePlayzYT I want a modern Dodge Challenger but my mom just got me the mustang so Imma be using that till I get enough money to get the dodge but I’m hoping that the mustang I got right now will be awesome when I’m done working with it
had to forward through the first 3:40 of this video... The reason why the 03-04 Machs had a chin spoiler was because the original machs had chin spoilers, not because the designers thought it would just "look cool".I totally agree about the rear gears and the stock throw into third is uncomfortably long. I had a '97 and the cup holder was a fold out unit from under the arm rest... you actually have an updated design, which isn't much better at all.
I don't own one but agree with the Mach 1 lip. Also I like Mach 1 grill delete. The blackout behind the rear tag looks great as well.smoked head and tail lights. Im old enough to remember reviews on the 99 and they said it sounded like a hair dryer the 4.6! The stock shifter would literally hit the drink. Why didn't ford notice this???
Thanks for making this Video, I’m Ole school (59 years old) Over the years, I’ve built some very nice cars for myself & a few customers, But left the game in late 2007 after a Back injury which required surgery, I’m still suffering with my lower back. I own a pair of Thunderbirds, one is a 1977 & The other is a 1988 both have 5.0 engines & are strictly for cruising not a performance parts packed “bruiser”! Very recently my wife decided that she wants something that she can Restore & Cruise also, So she’s getting a 2001 Mustang Convertible from her niece for $500.00, The car has never been wrecked & just sitting in the driveway unused because it has a leaking front timing chain cover & rear main seal leak also, So I told her that I would help her restore it & She’s excited.
I used to have a 2002 mustang Gy when I was in college. Then sold it and bought a g35, and now I have a Q50. I regret having sold that mustang but at that time I didn’t have much money and couldn’t afford to keep it and buy a second car.
Great vid dude thanks for making them. We went straight engine bolt-ons though. BBK headers, BBK x-pipe, Borla side exits, K&N intake, under driven crank pulley along with chip. It's an autotragic but runs hard it's fun. We need coilovers though that stance on blue is sick.
I bought a used 02 Gt. 5spd with all of the above mods Came with Lowering springs Gears and short throw Rims and tires Bbk intake and exhaust $1800 I paid for it Had to buy new emblems found a free spoiler and just cleaned the shit out of and detailed it, put new headlights and third brake light. Car is coming out nice. I just need to to touch up scratches on it. But I love the car I bought it for a summer toy to play around with.
Honestly love this guy, I have an 03 cobra and getting it on my 16th bday, which is in September, and this guy has such great advice on what to do with these cars. Love you dude, your awesome.
Just got my 2000 mustang back. It's getting the 3.8 pulled out and I bought a 4.6 from a 1998 with the transmission. I also have the motor mounts as well as a nice exhaust system
@@cavalierz24fool Go big or go home! I have an 04 and a 13; the 04 has a tired 2v with 206k and the 13 has 17k on it... 13 is gonna get an aluminator or 15+ motor, and that 17k mile is gonna go in the otherwise stock (down to the 4x4 springs) 04... I'm gonna post a vid when I do it in the next year or so, taking bets on how long the 3650 lasts behind the coyote :D
The s&r shifter handle has a short handle, you need a steeda or some other shifter handle to get a better reach so you don't have to reach so far and jerk your body around.
Subscribed because of this video! Your car is cleeeannn man keep up the great footage! I bought a 2002 gt about 8 months ago and it already had the chin spoiler, 3.73's, catless h-pipe off road exhaust w/ flowmaster 40's, the short throw shifter, and coilovers! When I bought it I knew nothing about cars and modding them but I'm so thankful it came with all these mods! And I got my car for $6200 CDN with only 160xxx km on it! Handling after it's lowered is absolutely way better and I actually recommend adding sway bars too.
2v are definitely worth dumping money into to be a fast car. Don't expect 1000hp but a solid 600-700hp street car. There are blowers for these cars everywhere for around 2k. The money you spent on bags for your car you could've had a rotating assembly, cams and some head work. Another 2-3k for power adder, and 1200 for intake and fuel. You pick these cars up easily for 5-10k. Where else do you get a 6-700hp street car for under 20k that looks badass?
Just going to throw this out there regarding the Mach 1 chin spoiler. It's supposed to line up with the wheel well, not the front of the bumper. Stock Mach 1 chin spoilers will sit about a .25-.50 inch behind the leading the edge of the bumper cover. You can of course mount it so it's flush with the front lip of the bumper cover, but that's not how the Mach 1's came from the factory. My old 03 GT was lowered and I had the Mach 1 grille delete and chin spoiler, consequently the chin spoiler would get beat up from time to time. I ended up replacing it about 3 times. The OEM Mach 1 chin spoiler and the $55 American Muscle chin spoiler are the same size. I never got an LMR one though.
My 5 would be 1- BBK throttle body and cold air. 2- good programed tuner. 3- nice deep sound full exhaust. 3- 4:11 or 3:73 gears is a must. 4- 1.5" lowering springs ( good quality ). 5- of course nice wider wheels and tires. That is just me.
Go get the borla sport exhaust I got the gt350 axle back exhaust LTH mid pipe man it loud people be getting out of my way when I'm take drive to Mexico lol
Trying to get one of these as my first sports cars. I learned to drive in and currently drive a fwd Camry with 180 bhp. It’s a good car in all, but cars have been my greatest passion since age 1, so I’ve gotten bored. The new edges seem like the perfect choice to me because 1. It’s American 2. They’re more common to find on Craigslist in my area than fox bodies 3. They make a base of 250 bhp, therefore I feel like the 70 bhp difference would be logical to learn stick in coming from an auto 4. The very thing you stated in this video; they’re fun cars to mod. You can’t make them super fast, but you can make them look great and sound as loud as my immature teenage mind desires.
First video I’ve watched of yours man, and I gotta say...I’ve been up all night researching about ‘04 mustangs cause I’m looking at a black manual V6 with 110k miles for $5k and this has been a really fun and the most informational video I’ve seen yet, thanks!
#1 is the ride height. If there's only ONE thing you do on any mustang from '94 to '04 it's dropping the car. These cars DO come from the factory with monster truck height, don't worry about hurting Mustang owners feelings, it's the hard truth. I should know, I own a '98 and an '01 GT. Keep up the good work, your videos are entertaining...
befor i start the vid the first thing you shoulddo on that year is realise that they have massive over steer problems because they are front heavy. setting and stabilizing a couple kitty liter bags in the trunk will in fact make a positive effective and inexpencive difference in handling that would shock the hell out of you to start or even better racing weights in the back. suspension next along with tires afterwords. never make it to low either you dont want it to scrape because that destroyes a lot of thngs underbody. an inch down and some kyb suspension is more than enough never cut youre springs doing it wrong does nothing but make youre ride ware out quicker. as for the shifter they did that so shifts take less time. if you do exaust it will do almost nothin good if you dont upgrade intake because it can breath out but not in and has an asthma attack and dont get a 100 dollar intake kit. they usualy just suck hot air into the engine. they arent actualy cold air. if you want it to b real i would recommend going with ram air. if you realy want to go all out get rid of the iron block and replace it with an aluminum block motor. this is the most efficiant way to correct the over steer problem. then a garet turbo. the cheep ones break down and cost you more money in the end. get steel rims. they may not look "amazing" but the quality ones are way lighter and allow youre car to actualy handle better because of unsprung weight. low profile tires also dont actualy help the performance either. have you ever seen a formula one or stock car with low profile tires running a track in an actual race? have you ever seen a true pro track only drag car with them? not likely. tires need more material And softer compounds to go off and stick. i would recomend firestone, fire hawks. or some decent genearal tires to start. also the front tires are better with a little harder compound. theres mor weight on them so they stick harder. soft fronts will only wae out quicker. get some moog componants to. they are more expencive but are far more durable. maybe even get some rockwell gearing for the trans and rear axle. a few new clutch packs, a shift kit to tighten up the shift linkage... yeah with the exception of the new gears and motor swap all of this is fairly attainable. after that maybe even a k member for the trans tunnel to strangthen the chassis and a couple frame rails. for the rear axel i would even recomend getting a limited slip diferential from a cobra and droping it in. a used one from the same year cobra is fairly inexpensive. a grand or so and it will help you put the power to the ground. ramember, it doesnt matter how much power you have if all it does is smoke the tires. also when driving it keep in mind youre pusshing youre car with rear drive not pulling like front so you have to take corners diferent. come in wide hold it tight and exit wide with some throttle. it will take some practice but it will work. hold corners for as little time as possible and stay progressive withthe driving technique. stay smooth and acurate.
been watching your vids for a while now since ive been on the market for a new edge for and have been waiting for a deal I just cant pass up. I was so excited last week I found a blue mach 1. I went to see it and sadly it belonged to a 20 year old kid who did not take care of it. it looked so good in the pics he posted but up close it was very disappointing with rust starting to build up in some areas. I just bought a dark grey mach 1 last week. Love it and will start modifying it soon, but dam the blue would have been great.
My '02 had a cold air intake and cat back exhaust when I got it, and I did add the chin spoiler. I have the stock shifter and don't need to stretch to reach it, so I'm fine with it. Also, I live in an area where emissions inspections are done, so I'd never get away with deleting the cats.

Zach Harris jack up the front an then open either one of the doors and see how smoothly they close.
Custom wheels, cold air intake, catback exhaust ( or do the whole thing) performance tires, hurst shifter. Boom. 5 cheap mods that will already give better performance and sound and won't break the bank.
True! Good list!
1) Hurst short throw (or even steeda tri ax) with Hurst 'chrome upper stick' and whatever shifter ball you choose and the shifter being out of reach is no longer an issue
2) changing brands for the midpipe will only change fitment. the sound would still be the same with a bassani x pipe and your flowmaster catback. but that being said, borla atak catback with an off-road x pipe is a great sound with these motors. I know from experience lol!
Might have to do these!
TMW i literally was just complaining to my friend about the cup holder in my 2000 mustang being so damn close to the shifter.
RIP circle K cups
CTRL X put in in the console 🤣
The 4x4 is true. My 98' GT has the stock suspension and it's way up there.
GuitarFreak881 it should be a crime for a mustang to come like that from the factory. my 98gt was lowered 2 inches all around when i bought it luckly
Yeah its pretty tall stock!
GuitarFreak881 same
My 00' v6 has stock suspension and it is pretty high
Just acquired a 99 35th anniversary V6 stang. Best daily driver ever! Comfortable quiet ride, still has some power to pass semi trucks on the highway. Not a 10sec car but it still turns heads! Wish it had a larger fuel tank though.
How did wheels/Rims not make it on this list.
True true, but the GT "Stock" wheels are actually not all that bad! They look good with a lowered stang! But yes, wheels should have made it!
Jaggsta They aren't necessarily one of the 1st 5 Mods that are a must... when I get my New Edge rims/wheels it will probably be a year before I get them because you want to get a idea of a theme( or color scheme) you are going to go with before you drop the bread on nice ads rims/tires
What type of rims are those
Yoo_frostyy Follow IG Yoo_frostyy Rovos wheels be prepared to spend a pretty penny
1. lowering springs
2. cai and a bama tuner.
3. x-pipe
4. catback exhaust
5. mach 1 chin spoiler and grille
Killin it - so happy for you Derek - the Speed Trend Society show will be awesome
Thanks Steve! and I'm stoked!
I love Mustang's they are the best
Generic car....
I have one I drive every day. It's nice, but I wouldn't go as far as saying they're the best
Because u dont half to shed your life to build one

I’m getting a 2004 40th anniversary as my first car, my dad fell in love with it and wants to deck it out like he’s always wanted to and this will help
Cool glad you made a video about this, I just bought my 2004 Mustang gt last week, and I wanted to know what kind of mods I should look into..
Awesome! Works out perfectt!
MINI driver here, absolutely - love the sound of the GT. Great car and great tips! Subbed.
Thank you!!!

I just got an 04 Stang REALLY cheap about a month ago, been driving it everyday and haven't had any issues...so I'm bout to mod something on it...just cruising UA-cam for ideas, thanks! ✌
I am a Dodge person and want a 1970 Challenger. I have a feeling that I will need a better car for daily driving. A 2003 Mustang sounds good to me.
That exhaust sounds amazing
Slotted vented rotors, cold air intake, 3:73s, headers, UD pulleys, and throttle body.....my 1st five
Yes! and I have no idea man! Its crazy to think they didn't see that!
Get BBK pullies, cheap and easy to do, worth the money even if you plan swapping the motor..
True! I could do those
DerekBaranProductions let me get some video's of my boosted sn95 and I'll get you to change your mind on that motor swap(;
I used to have a 2002 mustang Gy when I was in college. Then sold it and bought a g35, and now I have a Q50.
I regret having sold that mustang but at that time I didn’t have much money and couldn’t afford to keep it and buy a second car.
Steeda Tri-ax shifter handle will move it closer to your body sp you aren't having to move when you shift as much. they're $32.
Oh wow! Thanks!
i actually have the basani x pipe with the borla atak exhaust it sounds great way more crackle then ruble that’s fs
I'm building a 2000 gt and just painted it lava orange :) I wish there were more newedge people on youtube.
Damn man thats sick!
There are plenty of New Edge people on UA-cam. I'd have videos of mine up but I haven't done much with it besides drop it.

🤘 lava orange what that look like?
demonx242 follow me for new edge stuff just started UA-cam
We're going to jump right into it.....4 minutes into the video....fantastic....
Very nice! Nothing wrong with that!
Damn bro pics please???? Lol
I bought a used 02 Gt. 5spd with all of the above mods
Came with
Lowering springs
Gears and short throw
Rims and tires
Bbk intake and exhaust
$1800 I paid for it
Had to buy new emblems found a free spoiler and just cleaned the shit out of and detailed it, put new headlights and third brake light. Car is coming out nice. I just need to to touch up scratches on it. But I love the car I bought it for a summer toy to play around with.
Very nice!!!
I would keep the Flowmaster that sound is just iconic I wish my my s197 has that sound
Finally i have been searching youtube for months trynna find somebody with a mustang vlog...instantly thumbed up and subscribed!!!!!
great video
I always recommend
Springs, short throw ,subframe connectors, gears , rear control arms.
last but not least .. wheels !
Yes! Good list as well!
Honestly love this guy, I have an 03 cobra and getting it on my 16th bday, which is in September, and this guy has such great advice on what to do with these cars. Love you dude, your awesome.
And for exhaust get borla! they sound so mean, and sexy!
Thank you Jorden i'm glad you enjoyed this!
Never gonna sell it because just the airbag system cost exactly as much money
EXACTLY!
What airbag system are you using im looking to do my 04 gt only downer its auto but 4.6l 2v
1. Springs
2. Exhaust
3. Underdrive pulleys
4. Short Shifter
5. Cold Air
This was super helpful, I've got all of these mods lined up already :D
Thats awesome!!!! Get her done!
Just got my 2000 mustang back. It's getting the 3.8 pulled out and I bought a 4.6 from a 1998 with the transmission. I also have the motor mounts as well as a nice exhaust system
My top 5 mods for a new edge:
Subframe connectors
Gears
Tubular K member/a arms/mmmaaybe coilovers
wheels and tires
Coyote.
dre04mach coyote first 5? Lmao
Yeah see I wanted the short handle. Looks really good IMO
I just did a muffler delete on my 98 same engine, and it sounds amazinf
Nice!
Very nice! and thank you!!!
LOLOL Nice just joined the club got my first mustang on the road....
Ahhh yes this is very true! I totally forgot they dont sit flush with the bumper! Nice catch and thanks!
The big question: X-pipe or H-pipe?
Blaylock1988 x makes more power, but h sounds better IMO
DetroitMade313 +1
I have Offroad X now
X for top end HP, H for low-end Torque and sound. X is louder, but more tinny. H is deeper, and has the true muscle car rumble
Just straight pipe it
I use my cup holders for change too, can't wait to get her back on the road.
I really enjoyed your video man. I feel like you're an up and coming UA-camr. Keep it up man. I own a 98 Cobra =)
Thank you Evan! I sure do hope so man!
1-Blower
2-drag slicks
3-fuzzy dice
4-pine tree air freshener
5-sexy lady mud flaps(or Yosemite Sam)
already liked before I watched ;)
same here
Andre Hevesy same
My man!
Lmaoo!! I did the same thing!!
DerekBaranProductions you're
Gay. No but on a serious note I have a 98 f150 with the same 2v as yours. I have an exhaust clip on my channel 🙃🙂
My top 5 mods will be steeper gears, a good set of tires/wheels, aftermarket suspension, short throw shifter, and mufflers
Great video 📹 as always 😊 Keep up the good work, Derek 🇸🇪🇺🇸
Thank you!!!
Full length Subframe Connectors is a 100% must on ANY unibody car like the 79-04 Mustangs
Go get the borla sport exhaust I got the gt350 axle back exhaust LTH mid pipe man it loud people be getting out of my way when I'm take drive to Mexico lol
Hahahaha nice!
You can’t make them super fast, but you can make them look great and sound as loud as my immature teenage mind desires.
godzilla of new edges lol I love it
YES! haha
Nice video btw dude. I would add subframe connectors to the list as well
First video I’ve watched of yours man, and I gotta say...I’ve been up all night researching about ‘04 mustangs cause I’m looking at a black manual V6 with 110k miles for $5k and this has been a really fun and the most informational video I’ve seen yet, thanks!
great shit Derek! Super helpful for when I get my New Edge (in the next year!) Always great quality
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Agree with those Mods, Made the mistake of selling my mustang. I have to get another one
love the video bro keep up the good work sir I learn a lot from you 🖒🖒
Thanks Fredrick!!
Great vid Derek
Thank you!
These are one of those cars that I've never owned but always wanted... great video
Hey just ran into your video. i like the content keep it up and youll go big.
Thanks Julian! Much appreciated!
befor i start the vid the first thing you shoulddo on that year is realise that they have massive over steer problems because they are front heavy. setting and stabilizing a couple kitty liter bags in the trunk will in fact make a positive effective and inexpencive difference in handling that would shock the hell out of you to start or even better racing weights in the back. suspension next along with tires afterwords. never make it to low either you dont want it to scrape because that destroyes a lot of thngs underbody. an inch down and some kyb suspension is more than enough never cut youre springs doing it wrong does nothing but make youre ride ware out quicker. as for the shifter they did that so shifts take less time. if you do exaust it will do almost nothin good if you dont upgrade intake because it can breath out but not in and has an asthma attack and dont get a 100 dollar intake kit. they usualy just suck hot air into the engine. they arent actualy cold air. if you want it to b real i would recommend going with ram air. if you realy want to go all out get rid of the iron block and replace it with an aluminum block motor. this is the most efficiant way to correct the over steer problem. then a garet turbo. the cheep ones break down and cost you more money in the end. get steel rims. they may not look "amazing" but the quality ones are way lighter and allow youre car to actualy handle better because of unsprung weight. low profile tires also dont actualy help the performance either. have you ever seen a formula one or stock car with low profile tires running a track in an actual race? have you ever seen a true pro track only drag car with them? not likely. tires need more material And softer compounds to go off and stick. i would recomend firestone, fire hawks. or some decent genearal tires to start. also the front tires are better with a little harder compound. theres mor weight on them so they stick harder. soft fronts will only wae out quicker. get some moog componants to. they are more expencive but are far more durable. maybe even get some rockwell gearing for the trans and rear axle. a few new clutch packs, a shift kit to tighten up the shift linkage... yeah with the exception of the new gears and motor swap all of this is fairly attainable. after that maybe even a k member for the trans tunnel to strangthen the chassis and a couple frame rails. for the rear axel i would even recomend getting a limited slip diferential from a cobra and droping it in. a used one from the same year cobra is fairly inexpensive. a grand or so and it will help you put the power to the ground. ramember, it doesnt matter how much power you have if all it does is smoke the tires. also when driving it keep in mind youre pusshing youre car with rear drive not pulling like front so you have to take corners diferent. come in wide hold it tight and exit wide with some throttle. it will take some practice but it will work. hold corners for as little time as possible and stay progressive withthe driving technique. stay smooth and acurate.
been watching your vids for a while now since ive been on the market for a new edge for and have been waiting for a deal I just cant pass up.
Thanks Daniel and congrats on the mach! I want one!
My '02 had a cold air intake and cat back exhaust when I got it, and I did add the chin spoiler. I have the stock shifter and don't need to stretch to reach it, so I'm fine with it. Also, I live in an area where emissions inspections are done, so I'd never get away with deleting the cats.
Love this video!!!!!
Thanks Carlos!
Not trying to hate but window tint is probably the cheapest way to improve the looks of any stock ride. Love your content keep it up.
What percentage tint are your windows bro?
No idea. Getting them redone soon though!
and 2 valves are awsome because they have less internal resistance. just get the motor ported out at a shop.
