  • Quick and Simple Oil Change for a 2010-2017 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain 2.4L EcoTec 4 Cylinder
In this video, we will show you how to change the oil on a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox with a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine. This process is simple and can be done at home with the right tools.
First, gather all necessary materials including a 32mm oil filter socket, ratchet, a new oil filter, a drain pan, and the 4.5 quarts of 5W-30 DEXOS oil for your vehicle.
Next, locate the oil pan and oil filter under the car. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old filter. Place the drain pan underneath the oil pan and use a wrench to loosen the oil drain pan bolt. Allow the old oil to drain completely.
Replace the oil pan bolt and install the new oil filter, tightening it securely with the oil filter wrench. Fill the engine 4.5 quarts of oil, checking the oil level with the dipstick to make sure it is at the proper level.
Finally, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil. Check for any leaks and dispose of the old oil properly.
By following these steps, you can easily change the oil on your 2010-2017 Chevrolet Equinox with a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine and keep your car running smoothly.

TIP, pull the filter first, allow oil to drain into the sump. Drain the oil. Then install new filter. It will drain another 1/4qt out. After filling the engine, clear flood the engine for 20 seconds by holding accelerator down. This turns off injectors, and cranks the engine to fill the filter and pressurize the engine again.

Excellent socket recommendation! Video 📹 was very helpful 👌

Thanks for sharing that socket! I need to get myself one. I wish I saw your vid before I changed my oil today. That filter kicked my butt! I tried with an adjustable wrench but it had no room to swing. Then I used a plumbers basin wrench. Less than ideal, chewed the plastic hex up a bit which looks hack. But it worked.
Big Elephant in the room question remains. Why why why do they make it so hard to get to? Knowing it's something that gets removed at every oil change, why didn't GM engineers make it easy to access? My 3.6 Pentastar in my 2014 Charger has it up high with no restrictions. Right there in the dead center at the top. So easy to access.

What about the o-ring for the oil filter? Each new filter comes with fresh o-ring. That said, I don't think the engine will self-destruct if the existing o-ring is used sometimes.

You are probably correct. It's good practice to replace them just in case. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Thanks for showing the Torque and actually taking it off after. Visuals help us all. I once had a local do mine and he topped off the fluids, he put tranny fluid into the brake line, in a short time no brakes. They replaced the entirs brake lines. I don't trust anyone.

I don't blame you for not trusting anyone. At least if you do it, you what you did. Thank you for feedback.

Use a 32 millimeter or a 1and a quarter inch ratchet wrench works great. All you have to do is measure and cut off the open end.

Always replace the oRing on the black cap ( he skipped)

I agree, if possible, you should change the o-ring on the cap. When buying the filter there are usually different options and on of those options is with the o-ring. Thank you for pointing this out!

Hit the ratchet with your purse, that should do it for ya. 😂JK

You totally skipped over them. So if it was someone’s first time changing oil they might be saying what the heck ?
