With 800k on the clock, I wouldn’t pay more than 20k, knowing an in-frame would be needed within about 2-3 years at the long end. Most of the issues you found, they’re not necessarily a red flag for me, but I personally wouldn’t be looking at anything with a Cummins in it, and a lot of it is from the issues that the ISX had especially before the 2010 variants came out where they were notorious for wiping out cams. I think the average person trying to sell a vehicle would have at least taken an hour to clean it up. The fact he didn't reflects how he must feel about the truck, he just didn't want to go near it. The fact people have worked on this Truck who had such a low standard as to not address the broken or missing bolts and resolve this properly on such an expensive part, say's a lot. You're right. It's junk. No pride taken in this vehicle. Just a throw away now. Instead of taking the door panel off and fixing the handle, they took a saw to it. He'll go thru that truck and find a thousand different hack jobs like that. HARD PASS!

I was wondering where you were going when you said about 20 miles up Interstate 22. I don't know where that guy's house is, exactly, but I know where that is. I grew up about 10 miles from that intersection at the end of the video. Some background information for you. That county was coal mining country. Mines are mostly shut down, now. Lots of logging, still. There are all kinds of people around Walker County that know how to work on diesel engines. There are also lots of people in that county that dog out their equipment and repair it just enough to keep it running. That look like a typical Walker County repair. I don't know the person who was selling the truck, but if it is like other equipment from that county, you want to walk away from that sale.
The interior on that made me cringe. The interior on your Volvo is indeed MUCH nicer. Like everyone else is saying...don't buy that POS. It's UGLY!! Great video though for those looking to purchase.
Based on your videos I’ve watched I think you should pass as your truck is almost paid off. Make some dollars pay off your truck and house and save so you can pay cash for the next one. Debt isn’t good and people are slaves to the lender. You know your worth so maximize it.
How can you look at that door every day and not get a replacement panel from a scrap yard? That's just on the surface. What about the repairs that have been done that you can't see?? Every repair appears to have been done as cheaply as possible, with no follow-up to have the job completed properly. $30k to $22k to $20k and is now down to asking $16.5k...that's a price reduction of 45%! >>>RED ALERT
I would walk away from a truck like that with all those lights on the dash it's got air leaks for the air to drop all the way to zero like that plus the mileage and it doesn't look well maintained on the inside. And if you're doing a Blow by test you have to wait till the truck gets to normal operating temperature. Batteries are weak too too many issues thats a 9k truck at best

Hi Justin, I’m a driver in the UK and no mechanic but my Detailing OCD was going into overdrive lol , I think you could do better , no rush keep looking have faith 😉👍🏻
Door card / door mechanics, brake pots, compressor, air leak and vgt not too bad. The missing bolts on the manifold probably broken in the block, that would be my biggest concern. In general, the condition tells me the mechanic working on that truck was not very good or the owner doesn't take care of his truck. I would probably pass on this one
Justin, keep looking! This truck is the RAM Tradesman of Pete 587's, very few options. What sticks out most is the lack of pride in ownership. Too much jury rigging to keep it on the road. It's going to need an in-frame plus head work to get that exhaust manifold fixed. Guaranteed those manifold bolts are snapped off in the head and they stacked gaskets to get it to seal. Air compressor, turbo work, air line work, door panel, a lot of cleaning, seats recovered.... It's a long and EXPENSIVE list!! Seeing how the truck was maintained, it would be a hard pass IMHO.... He was asking 30K originally??? LMFAO!!
Thank you! I'm a couple years out from buying my first truck, so I'm soaking up as much knowledge as I can in the meantime. Your walkthrough of this truck really drives home the frame of mind required when approaching this daunting task.
Why they would cut a hole in the interior door like that? Don't like the missing bolts on the manifold with the missing gasket? Would depend on the price I guess not likely for me.

I bet the matresses and interior will stink on a hot day. This is an in-frame and interior replacement job.
Smell like Feet and Ass for sure man!!
You're right. It's junk. No pride taken in this vehicle. Just a throw away now. Instead of taking the door panel off and fixing the handle, they took a saw to it. He'll go thru that truck and find a thousand different hack jobs like that. HARD PASS!
@@heinzkitzvelvet Yeah...I'd stay way far away from that Pete. If the guy couldn't bother with that very easy to fix air leak and never noticed bolts missing from the exhaust manifold...there could be all sorts of traps waiting for the unwary. That being said, it did run nicely and manifold bolts are cheap. Probably a good deal for 12.
I would run away from that pete
Lemon, no wonder it has a prayer on it
😑🙏🏽
🤣 hell yeah he was praying the turbo alone wouldn’t fall off missing those bolts 🤣🤣
Keep your Volvo for now , I think you'll have buyers remorse with that one . Wait till the economy improves and you have more saved for a newer rig.
Interior on Pete sucked. You could dump $ into upgrading it. But why.
i know whenever my door handled hasnt worked on my car or trucks , I usually dont bother taking the door panel off either, I just cut a big giant hole throw the door panel. saves time that way, taking the door panel screws off is for suckers.
Justin I don’t know anything about the actual trucks themselves I’m in the trucking business in the sense that I provide risk management and insurance services but that aside while I’m no mechanic that Peterbilt looks rough... I would steer or at 16.5 maybe it’s worth it....But if the truck itself looks the way it looks kind of a lack of pride of ownership and I would imagine the interior that engine is not gonna be well maintained
Top notch film work. Very informative video.
Kudos regarding your overall knowledge!! Your not just an owner operator, your a tech as well my friend.
Based on your videos I’ve watched I think you should pass as your truck is almost paid off. Make some dollars pay off your truck and house and save so you can pay cash for the next one. Debt isn’t good and people are slaves to the lender. You know your worth so maximize it.
@Hello RRK how are you doing?
How can you look at that door every day and not get a replacement panel from a scrap yard? That's just on the surface. What about the repairs that have been done that you can't see??
Every repair appears to have been done as cheaply as possible, with no follow-up to have the job completed properly.
$30k to $22k to $20k and is now down to asking $16.5k...that's a price reduction of 45%!
>>>RED ALERT
Run don't walk away from that truck.
Good video... I’m a fairly new subscriber how’d you learn soo much about the mechanics they don’t teach you that much in trucking school
I’m sure you learn a lot when you’re an owner operator
I would walk away from a truck like that with all those lights on the dash it's got air leaks for the air to drop all the way to zero like that plus the mileage and it doesn't look well maintained on the inside. And if you're doing a Blow by test you have to wait till the truck gets to normal operating temperature. Batteries are weak too too many issues thats a 9k truck at best
pass on that thing its nasty no bueno
From $34k to $12k. It is good to have either the expertise or the right person when it is the time to buy the truck.
You to my brother god bless you to
That trucks worn out. You won’t like 10 speed with heavy loads in mountains.
Buy another VOLVO if i was you .. You can not beet a VOLVO Or keep looking for something else ..I would not buy this truck cause what i see you could be investing a lot of money to get it on the road !!!!
Thinking the Same 🙏🏽
Luckily you went to see it in person, truth is revealed
Go to Fitzgerald and get a real truck
I am a Pete man through and through. Really did not like the look of that Truck, But for that sort of money you will be lucky to get anything better. Truth is if you are not looking to expand your fleet then stick with the Volvo, better the devil you know.
You know your stuff Mr.Just Truck'in 🚛🚚 .. Wow , Question.. Do you learn all the truck parts during the 2 & half of driving a truck and doing mechanical repairs when needed to upgrade parts .. This video was a learning experience of the item is worth the price for additional investment.. Job Well Done Mr Justin 👏
I've been looking at a lot of things this year, cars, trucks big and small, backhoes, tractors, and I'm seeing that "American made" is meaning lacking thereof and little to no luxury...
Keep looking. Wishing you all the best.
Hi Justin, I’m a driver in the UK and no mechanic but my Detailing OCD was going into overdrive lol , I think you could do better , no rush keep looking have faith 😉👍🏻
🙏🏽agreed
Why even consider......he knew those bolts broke off inside the block.
LMFAO!!
Shade trees should have more pride than that...too many short cuts.
Which details clearly the type of ownership....Run.
What up, Don't buy that piece of junk, You gonna regret it.😜👍
Dang those seem cheap 20 k for a truck ..so u dont need to spend 80k to 100k to get something nice ??
You absolutely don't, you too can be a truck dealer or start your own trucking service.
I'll guide you as an expert consultant and broker.
Thank you! I'm a couple years out from buying my first truck, so I'm soaking up as much knowledge as I can in the meantime.
Your walkthrough of this truck really drives home the frame of mind required when approaching this daunting task.
Me too buddy, I pray that God blesses us and our future businesses
That cutout hole in the door was for a different kind of delivery😮
He said to check your rubber .
You know it's time to walk away when he says "Probably so" when you mentioned it's missing 2 bolts.
When you are dealing with something that old and used just really low ball it and fix it up if you have the shop. I would give 8500
@Hello Eagle how are you doing?
@@lydiaanderson582 excellent in North Carolina. Are you in California? Have a wonderful day👍
@@mreagle7194 Yea but currently Detriout, Michigan because of my work Can you suggest a way we can talk off here more often if you don't mind?
I'd let that truck set walk away
Football number is inportant? Hope you made a deal?
I would stick with what you got far superior 🚚 volvo
@Hello Goldilocks how are you doing?
Thank very much buddy I learn more few things in your amazing video it's help me a lot buddy 🙏
Appreciated Omar
Looks like an ok truck but out of my price range and looks rough I would pass just cause looks like a lot of work for a lot of money
As we say in Ca it's no bueno. Just waiting till you get something that will make you money.
@Hello Kirk how are you doing?
Save your money fellas and buy a truck from a dealer.
Disk brakes are slowly replacing drum on big rigs finally.
Why are disk better than drums?
@@Rogerdis215 Shorter braking distance, and most importantly, way less brake fade.
@@Wanderer25 thank you.
Why they would cut a hole in the interior door like that? Don't like the missing bolts on the manifold with the missing gasket? Would depend on the price I guess not likely for me.
Broken off bolts used gasket in a tube horrible
Great Video 🙏
Great Knowledge!!
You need to Setup A Casual Partime appointment Job..

Out of the mouth of 2 or 3 Witnesses my every WORD be established🙏
Get that Volvo in 10 gear and go fast away from that Peterbilt.......fast
God damn them trucks are wayyy cheaper than a tow truck. Man I’d have multiple trucks if everything was that price 😂
Broken exhaust bolts and left like that.....what else was h@lf *ssed. Offer low on it, way lower than 15k because you may need a head as well. Door panel, air compressor, probably a dryer if its moving oil, oil leak [not sure if you saw the grass under the truck]......i'd say not a dime over 10k because you cant test the turbo till the exhaust is fixed....and hope like heck the same shop didn't replace the clutch. JMHO for what its worth......
Rained on it for a reason
We have one at work, always problems..The slightest cold you have to jump start even with new or recent batteries, the rear leaf springs rust stress frame bad. I would pass, cant turn for world.
That truck has done 811,000 HARD miles... Walk away.
@Hello Dude how are you doing?
I love the Volvo I learned on a 97 with 600hp it was easier to drive than the brand new freightliner.
@Hello D beck how are you doing?
Cant complain. Just trying to make it happen.
What are you up to.
@@lydiaanderson582 what are you doing .
Nice video. But this fleet truck is a no go. Yours really in a better shape. Keep your hard earned money 💰 and wait for the economy to pickup. Keep looking for a much better package than this one. There is a better Volvo waiting for you somewhere !!. This one look like an old farmer tractor repaired in the field. Drive safely and nice job on these videos.
When buying something used, you never know what is wrong behind what you find wrong. I think you should look for something else and only come back to this truck if something better can not be found. Good luck with the purchase you make and I will see it when you do.
Like the show, found it during covid lock down. My major was Railroad Engineer but drove semi during grain harvest for 15 years. Both jobs a day. Thanks for your dedication to your job and the great family you have!
NICE VIDEO BRO, I LOVE THE VOLVO & PETERBIULT🙄 BUT THE PETERBIULT WAS GARBAGE. ANYWAY STAY SAFE & BLESSED OUT THERE.
I would run away so fast, I am a Volvo guy, no peterbilt for me🙂🙂
😎🤙🏽
That was a base model 579. People think just cuz it's a Pete it's top notch & pay more than they should
I would pass thats a rolling rebuild if i was to buy it would have to be rebuilt straight off, its in good shape but reliability is the question, I would get another Volvo since you already know it
I see you had to turn the cig lighter around till it was straight, a touch of OCD like me mate.
😎🤣🙏🏽
I wouldn’t buy this truck. Stay with your Volvo until you find a better one. Your Volvo looks beautiful outside. Stay safe.
All the Pete's problem's is why it hasn't sold already , don't let your desire for a Pete fog your mind . You'll find the right truck at the right price in due time .
