    Nice that each episode is not always Duncan against some immortal.

    • @HexenStar
      @HexenStar 5 років тому +5

      But unfortunately, never against a truly formidable immortal.
      His biggest and the only real threat was Horton. The one and only time when Mac did not seem invulnerable.

    • @HexenStar
      @HexenStar 4 роки тому +3

      @Ghajini 3000 Yeah, the first one was lucky and the other was sneaky...but either was no match for Horton.
      He survived way more than that, lol. Throughout watching the show, my only complaint was that Mac was way too overpowered and playing god too much: everything had to go his way, or else. And the only times when this was not the case - were always caused by humans. I saw immortals on the show as a kind of a
      predictable and optional side-dish, since this hand was rather underplayed. Horton on the other hand...was the only one
      that could feasibly make Duncan disappear.

      there was a second cut of that flick called "The Renegade Version" which wipes all mentions of the Immortals being aliens and keeps it instead that they're just immortal, still a cheesy schlock-fest but I find that bit of retconning just a little bit better

    • @Bardim18
      @Bardim18 3 роки тому

      I beg to differ, the lack of backstory for the immortals in the Highlander franchise is a major flaw. It bothers me that immortals just popped out of nowhere in the Highlander universe. Highlander II is crap but it's the only part of the franchise that tried to explain immortals.

    • @MrMikellsof88
      @MrMikellsof88 3 роки тому

      @@Bardim18 Why does there need to be an explanation? The need to explain every minute detail of a franchise is why we get saddled with movies like Solo ... which answered questions NO ONE WAS ASKING. Personally, and understandably others like yourself will not agree, I find the mystery of the immortals' origins to be a fantastic part of the story. Have they been around as long as humankind? Are they relatively new? Are they descendants of Adam and Eve who, unless I'm mistaken, were immortals in Eden? It leaves a little to the imagination of the viewer, which allows the viewer to feel a small sense of involvement in the creation of the lore of the story.

    • @Bardim18
      @Bardim18 3 роки тому

      @@MrMikellsof88 Well I find the mystery of immortals to be a major flaw in the Highlander franchise. I just can't accept that some people just happened to be immortals out of the blue. The TV series had six seasons to come up with a backstory, the Ahriman storyline was the perfect opportunity for that, and they didn't do anything with it. What if, for example, the mutants in the Marvel universe popped out of nowhere without an explanation? Would you accept it as a cool mystery or would you question why some people are born with superpowers?

No investigations into beheadings=watchers cleaning up. Remember that Connor was being hounded by the cops in the first movie by that guy he killed at the start. Incentive to obey the rules=not wanting every other immortal on their ass at the same time. Age+Stupidity=dumb luck, or mooching off other immortals' work

    It seems to me, that yes, at some points throughout history there will be only one, however, in all my years of highlander history, there's never been a decent explanation about who is chosen to become an immortal, and that it is a random occurrence.There are implications that it is genetic, but even then, is random within the genetic line.
    Therefore, it could be possible that after a "Gathering" years later, a new immortal could be made.please, reply to post and correct me if I'm wrong. thanks

    There isn't a difference. Useless mortals grow old and die, yes. But they are replaced by, more often than not, MORE useless people. And since the world's population keeps going up and up, we end up with more useless people per generation. And the immortals from the show are portrayed that way because, more often than not, most of them are villains. Most of the "good" immortals were contributing, even in small ways. Mass murder of a sub-species shouldn't be condoned on that basis, or any basis.

    • @thelonerider5644
      @thelonerider5644 6 років тому +2

      Reality is indeed independent of perspective... What I meant was that for many in the U.S., the health care system -- including "Obamacare" -- is far from perfect. I recently had experience with this. Being a cyclist, archer, and historical fencer I'm pretty active and rarely get sick, but when I do have to see the doctor, my health plan is essentially useless. I'm sure someone out there has different experiences, though. Stay cool, and thanks for the courteous reply.

    For the recent talk about maybe rebooting Highlander, the interviews with Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul on that subject... Could they make it this awesome without Queen? I'm hopeful... but skeptical.
