@@catloaf.2 Yeah I was like "Was that scripted? It looked like he just busted out with a BRRRRRRAH and no one backed him up so he just backed up the truck." I hope it was scripted. I'd feel bad if he for real got left hanging.
I might both be a little intoxicated and high as a kite but this performance is a golden record that will never degrade over time and that makes me delighted
I agree. It's funny how people are trying to create the same things with new ways. The computer has been integrated into almost every art form. People will forget the old ways and have to relearn them later on for what ever reason.
Used to live in Zimbabwe in the 90s. Am glad young people are still learning and playing traditional instruments. Note that the African marimba keys aren't laid out the same as western versions of the instrument - no "black keys" (sharps/flats). Also note their style is to play with only one baton per hand, whereas westerns use two, to play chords.
Yes and no. We do have the marimbas with the piano layout. However, we don't always play with two batons per hand. It really depends on the song if you're playing with two or one per hand. In my school it is very unusual to play with two batons per hand.
In 2024, this still sounds good. Glad I was part of the 2014 steel pan and marimba competition held in Johannesburg, represented my school St.Judes private school, festac🎉. We came 1st. The good old days 😄. I love the sound of Marimba
crazy to me that 99 percent of humans have yet to experience music on lsd. music is crazy amazing but sadly most will never get to experience or actually hear the angels singing. words will never explain it. its like describing a picture to a blind man. the soul literally cries when one experiences it.
This was so enjoyable to watch, these young men were having so much fun making amazing music, their happiness was infectious! Loved the performance, great job guys!👏👏👏👏
God bless iAfrika. Walk with her sons and daughters, always. Also can we stop and acknowledge the achievement scrolls on their blazers. If you're African, you know 😁
I love watching and listening to this as my good morning wake-up invigoration therapy! Only then am I ready to take on the day! (and go to my marimba class)
In all the political and economic turmoil....it is nice to see that some school still have such activities...would be nice to see this nand other cultural activities on youtube...choral music, small plays etc....... but boys...you rocked this!
0:55 What a beautiful groove!! The pulse doesn't become obvious to my ear on the first listen until the two soloists come in. How do you teach to play this way? Such inspiring hard working musicians being shown here! Thank you thank you
One of the thing that makes this type of Marimbas stand out is that, unbeknown to most people these instruments have a spiritual undertone to them for traditionally they used to be played at spiritual ceremonies including the mbiras as well. That's why they have great hearty soothing and magical sound to them. Also note that these Marimbas they have a special select wood that they are made of that's why they sound different from the western version of marimbas.
Whos feeling this In 2024

I love the trilled growl the young guy makes at the beginning!
And I hate how he looks around for approval and nobody hypes him up 😔

That's awesome! Sounds like electronic music being played by hand, making it more eclectic than technological.
