These are the 3 keys to his dominance 1) his recovery back to the non volley zone line. When Ben gets pushed off the line let’s say on a back hand dink he recovers back to the line in a flash and often recognized the next attackable ball. 2) Ben can attack a ball that’s lower then the height of the net by rolling the ball over the net with massive topspin. Nearly ever pro level player doesn’t recognize that these balls are attackable (although more and more are starting to) but Ben does. 3) Ben typically attacks his opponents by aiming slightly at their forehand side. I’ve studied this and notice when Ben attacks the slight forehand side he often always finishes the point. When he attacks the back hand side he has a lower success rate of winning the point.
Its not that Ben's game is slipping lately, its more credit to the players coming up and adapting. Ben showed everyone the blueprint and now they are all building on those ideas and creating new ways to score. AJ Koller is a good example. His speed ups are different and are catching people off for months now. JW Johnson is coming up with even more youth and a very similar technique to Ben. All of it in some way relates to Ben changing the game for years now and people emulating and adapting to what he does and trying different things to stay ahead of the curve. Even Ben took up the chainsaw/spin type serve to adapt to someone else's good idea, and he will keep adapting and changing as rules and strategies evolve. I think he gets a lot of credit for the current meta, and for inspiring the evolution for new ways to play and score and he isnt going anywhere, just maybe he will have to get some other medals than gold all the time because everyone else got better too.
I’m sure he needs some time off to rest and hone his own skills. Being No. 1 has it’s drawbacks too. People will always be chasing the best player and the best player has to keep growing themselves too.
Thank you for posting. I will agree, he really got pickleball going. Now next year, IMO, JW Johnson, and Frazier will be the ones to watch for the men.
Thank you for watching, David! I'm also really excited to see J-Dub and Frazier come more into the fold. Younger, fresh talent is always welcome in the pro scene in my books
Critique: when talking about his ability to do specific things such as misdirecting with this backhand dinks, show specific footage of him doing that specific thing. I feel like most of the footage is unrelated to the narration and it’s just a highlight reel that’s being spoken over
Haha, I just got a new mic and this was my first time testing it out, so, as you could tell, I'm still working on getting used to the new setup! Glad you enjoyed the video, though!

Agree with all your points Mr. Overlord, and I'd like to add one. Ben does this last point better than anybody I've ever seen and he does it consistently. No matter where he is on the court, no matter how hard his opponent crushes the ball at him, Ben has the ability to not just get the ball, but control it into a drop shop so it can't be attacked. That gives him time to recover into the point, as others have pointed out.

Good job, fun video to watch! Ben Johns is fun to watch👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Ben is super fun to watch
You should be a commentator for a live pro match.... your pickleball IQ is definitely up there! Great vid!
Thank you!

Frazier still a long way . I don’t think he on the top 10 yet

Thank you for the feedback, Tom
I think the opposite actually.
Great video, I love how it sounds like you’re in your moms basement and I try not to wake her lol but I really did like it.

I think he also has the best reset shot in the sport today.
I would agree, Ben is elite at nearly everything in the game
First key to Ben’s success: he wins more points than his opponent. Second key: wins more games. Third key: profit
I feel bad for players when they have to play him
What months does the pickleball circuit run?
The 2 pro tours currently run a rough schedule from spring-fall, although there are still events in winter time like USA Nationals this December
@@PickleballOverload hey thanks for the answer! Where do you normally watch events through?
