i have some confusions using the following sentences please correct me. 1. i heard one of my friends (sam) is going to canada in near future may be tomorrow or next year is it correct way to say i heard sam is going to canada. 2, i heard one of my friends (sam) went to canada. is it correct to say i heard sam had gone to canada. 3. i heard sam was supposed to go to canada or i heard sam was about to go to canada (but sam didn't go to canada) is it correct to say. 4 i think sam has gone to italy or i think sam went to italy or i think sam had gone to italy(sam is not here now) 5. i think sam has been to italy(means sam already went and came i think (imagination)
+oswald lobo Yes, all the sentences are correct, but with Past Simple and Past Perfect, you should add some time information: I heard / think Sam went to Canada last year. I heard / think Sam had gone to Canada before visiting the USA.
Thanks! For the amazing lesson; therefore, I have learned so mush from all you marvelous tutorials. So far you are one of the " best " instructors in my opinion.
Can any body explain to me this, the teacher said Present Perfect it's an action completed in the past without declaring the specific time (Past Simple the same but with specific time). And she gave this expression that come with Present Perfect (in the past week) then in Past Simple she gave this expression (a week ago). what is the difference between (in the past week) and (a week ago)?. Also this Past Simple example (She wrote that novel many years ago.) how the time here is specific? many years ago? it's same Present Perfect expression (in the last few years) ???. Last thing what is the meaning of (today until now, this year until now) how it comes in the sentence?
Any expression with 'ago' including 'a few years ago' requires the past simple tense. Expressions like 'in the past / last few years' mean from 'a few years ago until now' and require the present perfect tense.
"A week ago" means seven days have passed, or one week. You could also say "last week". "In the past week" means between seven days (a week) ago and now, but with no specified time.

Any expression with 'ago' including 'a few years ago' requires the past simple tense.
Expressions like 'in the past / last few years' mean from 'a few years ago until now' and require the present perfect tense.
with the use of the article it means this week

"A week ago" means seven days have passed, or one week. You could also say "last week". "In the past week" means between seven days (a week) ago and now, but with no specified time.
