    Lore for this game is that the Protege, alongside the Academic, found the pattern of the Iron Crown. It soon becomes the obsession of the Protege, as he becomes a master of the most powerful occult magicks imaginable.
    The Protege then realized that the Iron Crown was a symbol of power, but also the basis of a ritual. He recreated the ritual, and improved it from the failed form he saw alongside the Academic when they were invited by a man who was interested in the occult. The ritual involves the sacrifices of five people with great understanding of the occult, and soon the ritual is invoked.
    This ritual is to imprint one’s own mind and existence onto reality itself. You essentially become the God of this world. Humanity is twisted by your darkness, the Cult rises in honor of the only one to ever truly master the Iron Crown. The seas roil, the winds go sour, the Earth trembles. You have everything you ever wanted, but some part of you rejects this all and retreats to the valley to hide away.
    Then the Academic, resurrected from the memory you held of him, goes to find you, to lift you out of your denial and despair. He wants to undo all that you’ve done, and wishes to see you, his dearest friend, live up to your full potential and redeem yourself. To save the world.
    That’s why you see so many odd things. You are facing your own emotions, and parts of yourself that you had shunned. The Brain of Denial represents your, well… Denial.
    The Seething Sigh is your resentment, the Focused Fault, your obsession. The Ravenous Reach is your ambition, and the Body of Work? That’s you. Sitting on your divine and twisted throne as the hateful God and on your brow lies the Iron Crown. And once you destroy every part of your corruption? You die. But the world springs anew from the memory you kept of it…

    Safe to say the most well designed fight, every confession before makes it’s own appearance and throws in its two cents, showing how far that you have come in facing your failures and how familiar you are with them… the only thing left is to face the source of the fear within your heart.
    Last two bosses are just amazing, there’s no other way to describe it.

    I don’t know if you realized this but at the very end the one who delivers the “Darkest Dungeon” line isn’t the Academic, but the Ancestor. You can tell because the voice gets much darker and much deeper in that final line as opposed to the Academic who has sounded a lot more hopeful throughout the course of the game.

    The hardest fight of the final act is the last exarch. The last boss seems more like a reward for finishing the act 5, which is the hardest one. However it's not a free boss, it can outresource you depending on your team compossition and kill you by attrition. There is still something I don't like about the final boss though, it's that you need all your heroes to be able to target rank 1 if they don't, the ghost will kill the character and then everyone else (Since his damage and crit seem to be able to escalate indefinitely and has 2 actions.)

    • @GaroShadowscaleBold
      @GaroShadowscaleBold  Рік тому +1

      Oh dang, I didn't think about that. If one party member can't hit rank 1, you just lose? 😅

    • @DrBXXI
      @DrBXXI Рік тому

      @@GaroShadowscaleBold You can still push it. So if the heo can't target rank 1 but it can target rank 4 and you push it there it's OK. If not, you are in a race against boss to kill it before the memory kills everyone.
      This happened to me. Fortunatelly I didn't pick the hero that couldn't target rank 1 first, so once I noticed how the boss worked I picked it the last one and just killed the boss normally. But if I had pic that hero the first one I'm quite sure I would have lost.

    Lore wise, this isnt a direct sequel to DD1, kinda like how Dragon Age 2 isnt a direct sequel to DA Origins. The Narrator of DD2 and the Ancestor from DD1 are not the same person.
    Story wise, it seems that WE ourselves are the cause of the world going crazy. We killed out friend, and performed a cosmic ritual, becoming the herald of the Iron Crown. Each Act was us trying to stop ourselves. Act 5's final boss was US.

    Ok, so I kinda just wanna talk about this because I love this games lore, so spoilers ahead for darkest dungeons 1 and 2
    So the final boss is you, or at least your body that has fused or became the final boss, the protégé, or the player character also has a ton of similarities between themselves and the ancestor, they both made a great discovery, for us it was the pattern, for him it was the vision from the blood, this discovery became an obsession, they both heavily experimented with the occult, and as we now know, we both preformed the same ritual and became one with cosmic beings and in turn put the world in jeopardy, the only difference is that we came to regret our actions and sought hot right our wrongs and “confess our failures and sins”

    • @Pixelcat607
      @Pixelcat607 Рік тому +13

      We also learn about the details of the ritual that the ancestor preformed in order to become one with the heart.
      1. It seams that you must sacrifice five individuals who are at least experienced in the occult
      2. It would seem that in other for you to complete the ritual you either had to die or, more likely commit suicide (think of the opening of DD2 we are sitting in a dark room that has clearly been neglected, we are surrounded by dead plants and rotting food, and time has stopped just before midnight)
      3. This ritual seems to separate your soul from your body and allows you to act independently of your body or rejoin it if you choose to (the last part of that is a maybe), in the case of the ancestor he used this to trick us and lead us along so that we would unknowingly strengthen the Heart, and we confess to what we did wrong to try and we try and save the world

    • @GaroShadowscaleBold
      @GaroShadowscaleBold  Рік тому +4

      That's a really clever and logical analysis. Thanks for breaking this down and explaining 💙

    • @SCP-up4ot
      @SCP-up4ot Рік тому +2

      Not so sure if it is truly himself for the body of work. I assumed that at first, but if he truly regretted his actions and ran away as said by the academic, unless after ritual the fuse is mandatory that wouldn't truly be him right? And if it was him, then how is he going with the heroes on their journey to the mountain.
      For now at least I think its maybe a fragment of him, or a reflection of some sort.

    • @Pixelcat607
      @Pixelcat607 Рік тому

      @@SCP-up4ot you do bring up a fair point, the body of work could be something either mirroring the protégé or holding onto a fragment of them. But, if the body of work did fuse completely with the protégés body, I think their spirit could be functioning as a guide for our hero’s in a similar way the the academic and the ancestor was to us. Either way, the fact that we are speculating on these details shows that Red Hooks writers really hit this game out of the park
      Also I’m making sure not to blink when talking to you SCP 173
