All the A and S class demons were still deep in Spirit World, which basically meant that Toguro was the strongest demon on Earth at the time. That's still a huge acomplishment in my book.
What Togashi is the best manga creator of all time for me. He portrays so many different emotions throughout his characters that you can’t really help but be subjugated. Toguro, Sensui, Chrollo, Hisoka, Meruem, tzsereidneich… and that’s just the vilains!
"Togashi is the best manga creator of all time for me" - I KNOW you like creativity when you say "best of all time" - Well, the best is still yet to come, friend, these are timeless animes we're watching. In terms of story and character, YYH far surpasses Cowboy Bebop even.
according to Togashi himself, he did based Toguro on Arnold Schwartzenegger’s Terminator… heck even the character’s OG voice actor in Japan was the one that performed in the Japanese dub of the Terminator franchise…
My favorite villain from the whole Yu Yu Hakusho series, Younger Toguro had an intimidating presence with his physical body structure and his specific muscular strength increase percentages of full power that he displayed during the first two seasons. Toguro debuted late in season one and was the main antagonist along with his entire team during the Dark Tournament saga ; I enjoyed the Toguro's personal background story and his relationship with Genkai as both had a shared history of being former fighting teammates. The Dark Tournament saga was incredible along with team Toguro and Toguro's final battle with Yusuke at the end of the tournament was amazing & is my personal favorite fight in the entire YYH series and one of my all time favorite anime fights of any anime series.
Villains seeking immortality to reserve their rank and expressing power reveals theough percentages was such a vibe in the 80-90-00's era anime. Wasnt till naruto i stopped hearing numerical analysis for power level and just visual demonstration for scale. Frieza using 1% was bonkers tho I really wanna meet genkai/friezas voice actress. She did such great work.
Togashi is a genius, probably the only shounen mangaka I'd put above Akira, unfortunately the average anime fan only cares for HXH, and the watered down 2011 version on top of that.
The live action crunched so much into so few episodes it lost so much significance. Toguro was this terrifying, insurmountable monster in the anime. In the show somehow yusuke powered up enough to win in 6 episodes. Genkais death was also a lot less impactful because we hardly got to know her before she got killed. I need to rewatch this soon. I hear there is a remake coming out next year. If they nail it it will be amazing. I hope they get the original English cast.
@@SirAuron777 a quick Google said there will be one, supposedly this year sometime. Don't know much beyond that but I think the Netflix adaptation did okay, so probably didn't get canceled.

Truly a great villain... and an awesome character. The writers of this series always did great work, but Toguro-the-younger really knocked it out of the park. Bravo! .

Toguro was a beast in the early anime. A class A demon is actually pretty strong, if I´m not mistaken only by the time of Sensui Saga the team Urameshi was able to reach this kind of power and surpass it
@@metal079 he mentions he hasn't used his full power. Said this isn't 100% of my power.. that's a Frieza reference. His (togoro) whole existence is literally wanting to fight the strongest so he can use his full power.. Cell.
My take on this is that bringing his pupils back would give him the opportunity to be hurt again. But a demon is supposed to be something stripped of all such burdens, which I think is reinforced by Sensui’s revelation coming in the arc AFTER this
@@SageoftheForlornPatheither that or if I could find a “lore friendly” explanation: they would’ve went with the Faustian Bargain route and yes he would be able to wish them back, just not as Toguro expected or hoped for.
Toguro must have been hiding all his emotions inside and he is not a kinda of guy who knows love language. He shows his compassion through fighting and certainly he is seeing his ownself through Yusuke. He is showing Yusuke what power can do if you do not control your emotions.
Back when being a planet buster was a gigantic feat. Today’s anime just make everybody a galaxy buster for fun. kind of makes it less down to earth and more boring. It was cool when it was done sparingly like Dragon Ball Z but again now every single anime and their grandma wants to make everybody universal.
Anti-villian is a perfect discription of him. Hell, his entire plan, even down to the deaths, all relied on him wanting Yuskue to reach his true potential and beat Toguro at his own game just so Toguro could prove himself wrong about his life choices. Dude is a legend.
Toguro is an interesting case. One of the early examples of Japan's take on the "Superman," story, namely; A dude with that level of strength wouldn't really find anything challenging , and life would be incredibly boring. Big difference being that most all these characters attained that strength, they weren't really born with it, but most all of them wind up in the exact same boat. Yujiro Hanma- All the money and power on in the world can't help him find the one thing he desires. A decent opponent/fight Saitama- Doesn't even feel human anymore, is, likewise, looking for a worthy opponent to return some edge to his fight. The thrill of, _"I may actually lose!"_ Toguro- This dude is like a great lumbering beast; Too big to travel to a new land, too big to find a worthy opponent, too big to get taken down by smaller means. My biggest problem is that in all his years, he and Sinsui never sought out one another, given the former Spirit Detective's prodigious strength and Toguro's desire for a challenge
Up until this point (Toguro), Yuske hadn't been put into a situation he couldn't muscle his way out of. It was charming, even..... _....then Toguro changed all that!_
Seeing as though A and S class threats were still trapped in Spirit World until the rift broke, Toguro was still the strongest demon on Earth, despite being B class.

Btw, i've just watched the netflix adaptation and boy.. Let me put a *"spoiler"* in here just incase:
They completely screwed up THIS particular scene.. Toguro walks past genkai in the afterlife and doesn't even say these lines.. He does turn around to take his sunglasses off but that's it, he doesn't even turn around with that iconic smile towards Genkai.. Nothing... It just ends there..
Netflix completely fucked up the adaptation..
Most of the most evil people alive now was hurt severely by something that told them they have to be this way to survive an so they changed completely but nobody I mean nobody is born evil the behaviors humans have is from life experiences an life experiences are created by the evil world not by god god doesn’t make evil people he sends pure babies here
Lmao man he sounds so badass
“Must’ve been a misunderstanding “ 😂😂😂
This dude flexed how he only used a small percentage of his power to win battles the entire season, only for him at 100% to be considered a B-level demon the next arc. I will never not be mad over them doing my boy dirty like that.
That's the usual shonen power scalling for you
All the A and S class demons were still deep in Spirit World, which basically meant that Toguro was the strongest demon on Earth at the time. That's still a huge acomplishment in my book.
@@SoulHero7not to mention he had S class potential given his ageless body.
Often when your vengeance mission is complete....you still often feel empty. I love toguro✊ goat of anime villains
10:28 demon energy flowing from yusuke.
10:23
Prob the first fighter in anime to actually score his power
Pure strength surpassing any technique gotta love younger toguro
Tugoro look like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator movie, look up google lol
according to Togashi himself, he did based Toguro on Arnold Schwartzenegger’s Terminator… heck even the character’s OG voice actor in Japan was the one that performed in the Japanese dub of the Terminator franchise…
“But beneath it all I suspect you would find just a normal man with a wounded heart and a broken dream” 💔
This was Batista for me growing up lol
Seems like toguro has lots of jackets to throw away
The OG chad
Toguro wasn’t really a villain though he just wanted to die
When I think "early anime" I certainly don't think 1990s anime. I think 1960s and early 1970s anime
I think speed racer. Yuyu is early in the sense of early for it to really catch on in the us.
Hes such a cool villian but i hate how he's only a rank B
Power levels doesn't mean anything in the face of good writing
@generaldane he has great writing but at the end of the day he was just a b class
Truly The Platinum Age of anime when the story mattered turning the characters into Legends
Freeza Saga also very good
After 20 years this characters means a lot for me
The best Villain in Yu Yu knows who he is. He can speak for himself.
And that old lady that trained us yesterday that’s the voice actor, a freezer from Dragon Ball Z, the Namic battle
He literally played the long con, it’s like he became yusuke’s enemy just to help him and protect him.
Villains seeking immortality to reserve their rank and expressing power reveals theough percentages was such a vibe in the 80-90-00's era anime. Wasnt till naruto i stopped hearing numerical analysis for power level and just visual demonstration for scale.
Frieza using 1% was bonkers tho
I really wanna meet genkai/friezas voice actress. She did such great work.
Togashi is a genius, probably the only shounen mangaka I'd put above Akira, unfortunately the average anime fan only cares for HXH, and the watered down 2011 version on top of that.
Do you even know shonens outside the mainstream ones? 😅
I should have said battle shounen to be more specific, but which ones would you suggest?
@@RejectHumanityReturn2Monke Like, I'd love some recommendations of non-mainstream shounens to watch/read.
I used 23.5667% of my brain to watch this...😏
The live action crunched so much into so few episodes it lost so much significance.
A remake? No way
@@SirAuron777 a quick Google said there will be one, supposedly this year sometime. Don't know much beyond that but I think the Netflix adaptation did okay, so probably didn't get canceled.
These are good times anime had more meaning. Things where few and people where mostly weight lifted. Nowadays everything seems a bit too much. Wonderful anime , amazing story and art made of love hard work and compassion. So simple so peaceful. To good old times
I think it's fair to say that Yu Yu Hakusho still has some of the best dialogue of any shonen?
This is not an early anime. Early anime was from the 60s-70s. 80s-90s is the golden era.
Goodness, his voice, makes me sweat everytime
Anyone ever notice that Yusuke was emitting his red demon energy auro at 11:45? This was way before he was even admitted a half demon.
It's funny because I just noticed that as well. Wondering if it was intentional
Truly a great villain... and an awesome character. The writers of this series always did great work, but Toguro-the-younger really knocked it out of the park. Bravo! .
Toguro is one of my favorite characters in the series.
Okay, Fine. I'll rewatch Yu Yu Hakusho.
He was the first time in anime I saw the classic, "I lied that wasn't my full power", and "I just wanted to go all out against someone" tropes. Classic villain.
One of the best villian
I won't it go even I have to give up my life. This is pure honor and love. That is why Toguro took the that spirit gun full face.
lots of people don't give his character the credit it deserves, people see him as just the heavy that needs to be defeated by gaining more physical strength, but he is so much more complex than that, the older i get the more i understand him, not that i agree with his choices cause he made all the wrong ones, but i mean just look at what people will do these days to try and stay young and keep their relevance I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities to say many people would be willing to sacrifice things they love in their life for the same opportunities, even though he eventually came to the right conclusion he refused to be persuaded, he needed to find someone that was the exact opposite of his ideology that could prove him wrong, there is so much to him it's amazing character writing
One of my favorite anime series ever top 3 I’m standing on that
Yasuke's father figure.
On todays episode of "Villains i refuse to hate"
Toguro was a beast in the early anime. A class A demon is actually pretty strong, if I´m not mistaken only by the time of Sensui Saga the team Urameshi was able to reach this kind of power and surpass it
Cell & Frieza inspiration I see
Frieza predates Yu Yu Hakusho
@@nickthompson318 oh fr ?
@@damienkun8786 He's right. Frieza was debuted in Chapter 53 in 1989. Toguro first appeared in Chapter 46 2 full years after Frieza.
Dude has literally nothing in common with them lol
@@metal079 he mentions he hasn't used his full power. Said this isn't 100% of my power.. that's a Frieza reference. His (togoro) whole existence is literally wanting to fight the strongest so he can use his full power.. Cell.
What I don't understand is definitely his wish. He became like Kairen. But why didn't he just wished his apprentices all back?
My take on this is that bringing his pupils back would give him the opportunity to be hurt again. But a demon is supposed to be something stripped of all such burdens, which I think is reinforced by Sensui’s revelation coming in the arc AFTER this
I doubt the Black Black Club was capable of bringing all of those people back to life.
@@SageoftheForlornPatheither that or if I could find a “lore friendly” explanation: they would’ve went with the Faustian Bargain route and yes he would be able to wish them back, just not as Toguro expected or hoped for.
If he wished them back they could be killed again. He wanted to become as strong as to never be a victim again.
@@dgcardoso Sucks what that guy had to go through
Where does he keep getting all these damn coats?
I don't remember seeing some.of these scenes in the show
Toguro must have been hiding all his emotions inside and he is not a kinda of guy who knows love language. He shows his compassion through fighting and certainly he is seeing his ownself through Yusuke. He is showing Yusuke what power can do if you do not control your emotions.
Great video
I can't not think of JC denton everytime I hear/look at him
Back when being a planet buster was a gigantic feat.
Today’s anime just make everybody a galaxy buster for fun. kind of makes it less down to earth and more boring. It was cool when it was done sparingly like Dragon Ball Z but again now every single anime and their grandma wants to make everybody universal.
"Why don't you get to the point, Muscles⁉️"
Ahh, Yusuke, always the wise ass 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love these series
Genkai should’ve stayed dead after the Togoro arc.
The only way to end his life is for him to use his max limit.
13:37
an anthill versus an iceberg.
Easily one of the most respectable anime villains ever
His brother not yet dead!!!
That moment when the villain motivate the hero to fight.
Would people define this guy as an anti-villain?
An anti-hero is a hero with good intentions and goals basically
So an anti-villain would someone with evil/bad goals/intentions with good methods
I'd say arguably yes?@@LitereallyNobody7
Anti-villian is a perfect discription of him.
Hell, his entire plan, even down to the deaths, all relied on him wanting Yuskue to reach his true potential and beat Toguro at his own game just so Toguro could prove himself wrong about his life choices. Dude is a legend.
@@SoulHero7 the whole tournament is the most elaborated soicide note
No such thing he’s either a villain or he’s not an based on the final product he wasn’t a villain he just portrayed to be one that’s the difference
Toguro is an interesting case. One of the early examples of Japan's take on the "Superman," story, namely;
A dude with that level of strength wouldn't really find anything challenging , and life would be incredibly boring.
Big difference being that most all these characters attained that strength, they weren't really born with it, but most all of them wind up in the exact same boat.
Yujiro Hanma- All the money and power on in the world can't help him find the one thing he desires. A decent opponent/fight
Saitama- Doesn't even feel human anymore, is, likewise, looking for a worthy opponent to return some edge to his fight. The thrill of, _"I may actually lose!"_
Toguro- This dude is like a great lumbering beast; Too big to travel to a new land, too big to find a worthy opponent, too big to get taken down by smaller means.
If I remember correctly wasn’t Toguro at best only was a B class threat?
They started power scaling and went full DBZ in the later arcs, completely diminished the value of the first 3 seasons.
Seeing as though A and S class threats were still trapped in Spirit World until the rift broke, Toguro was still the strongest demon on Earth, despite being B class.
He said upper b class tho I think he should’ve been A tbh
Taguro was bigger in attitude. Bigger than Sensui's all personalities.
Oh sweet nostalgia 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
For people complaining about the title the early anime is supposed to be that's it's with the OG's such as dragon ball, naruto and one piece not that it's one of the first anime stop getting angry over trivial things
"early anime"
The best
5:25 this combination of sizes seems pretty awkward for sex.
22:05 star crossed lovers till the end 😢
True 100%...at least his pants stayed on....
Dud Yuske have Demon energy (red) during the fight?
