    I'm learning German and I had this moment while listening to the English version of this song where I realised that I know all the words in the first line (except "Model", which appears to be the same in both languages) : "She's a model and she's looking good", which I translated to "Sie ist ein Model und sie sieht gut aus". I then immediately listened to the German version and was very excited to hear him singing the same thing. This is especially a big deal to me, because my primary reason for learning German is to be able to listen to Kraftwerk, Falco, Peter Schilling and others artists who sing in German and to be able to understand them.

      They are, but let's not forget Raymond Scott, Daphne Oram, Tom Dissevelt etc from the 50s and 60s who were making pioneering electronic music. Ralf Hutter actually went to the Phillips fair and heard Tom Dissevelt I think in Holland as a kid (Phillips had an experimental music studio for electronic musicians) so he would have been exposed to such music early on.
      The first true electronic music was made in the Soviet Union in the 1930s though.

      They were pioneers of modern popular mainstream electronic 'music' maybe, but british bands like Yes, ELP, Floyd etc. etc. were doing experimental synth music more than a decade before this stuff

      Literally screaming " Look at us, Look at me" but without saying a word, I was over there again in 1983 and the fashion had changed a bit but the teenagers were still an odd bunch of weirdos, carrying ghetto blasters around with the speakers hanging out of the front on wires, no idea what that was all about, also they wore odd shoes

    About the reaction of the audience (or the lack of):
    This show was on mainstream TV in Germany and at that time the studio audience had no idea which artists would be there when they bought their tickets. It was not announced in advance because the producers would not know either.
    If you put any band in front of an audience that is basically a random mix of people you will probably get the same result.

      You never know. Kraftwerk had been around for 8-10 years at that point and I’m sure were well known in Germany by then, so most of the audience probably knew who they were at least and some may have even enjoyed their music already. Kraftwerk weren’t exactly Duran Duran or Depeche Mode with regards to fashion and dressed sort of conservatively themselves with their button down shirts and ties and sometimes full business suits (ala Trans Euro Express) onstage (back then).

They even had German Haircuts.,and European melodies along with the synths and electronic beats. And some how it worked because they had a clean, clear sound with catchy melodies! Kraftwerk - their energetic live-performances and on-stage charisma are only rivaled by the likes of Elvis and F. Mercury 😉😉😄
    Saw them 2004. Very static on stage, the only thing Ralf Huetter said was: "Guten Abend" and "Auf Wiedersehen".
    BUT absolutely crystal-clear, pristine and perfectly balanced surround sound and awe-inspring creative visual multi-media and laser projections.More like an art installation than a rock concert. Loved it.

    • @marksinger2360
      @marksinger2360 3 місяці тому

      I saw them in 1975 touring in support of _Autobahn_ . They played in the education hall of the Tulsa State Fairgrounds in Tulsa, OK, which was a barn-like building with a low stage that was so small that the violinist of Pavlov's Dog, who opened for them, was forced to sit on top of one guitarist's amps to play. Karftwerk's synths, synth drums, and vibraphone basically filled the stage, and Ralf carefully and apologetically said at the beginning, "I am sorry, the stage is too small for our lights, so we will just play." They played quite a while, including pieces from their first two albums. I was about three rows back, and when I turned around to look after about an hour, there likely were only about 30 people left out of what had been an audience of around 500. I saw them standing together in a side room (and looking a bit dejected) as I was leaving the venue, and I always have regretted that I did not stick my head in the door and thank them.
