I hope she changes her mind. She wasn't satisfied after the US Open. She reached 4 GS finals, after Olympia, aged 37-39. That says a lot about the level of the women's tour at the moment, which is pretty low. She could totally win in Australia if she practices her serve a million times like she used to do in the past
I really think Serena played better than Iga at both Wimbledon and the USO. These women bring everything they’ve got for the upsets but crumble when they advance within the tournament.

Iga, on the other hand, is the opposite. She may lose a match but she's going to win the next day. She's not playing incredible tennis, she's playing well enough to win in every match she plays and that's why she keeps winning tournaments and slams. At the moment there are no rivalries and no great matches on the women's side.
Fascinating that a fair few comments are going on about if she didn't have Olympia, but 2018-2019 she was in the finals and then after 2020, you can see it dipped dramatically. While I know it's a touchy subject (for some) I cannot help but always noticing that 2020 onwards, Serena had extra baggage and hey, that's absolutely fine as we get older our metabolism drops and perhaps Serena was training hard but wasn't able to burn off OR not being on a strict diet. HOWEVER, it literally could just be the fact that the younger generation just know how to overpower/counter punch her to exhaustion as her rallying game was noticeably weaker as time went on.

Serena was just unlucky to lose those 4 GS finals between 2018 and 2020, that could have happened to her at any stage of her carreer, but it happened at the end. The level of women's tennis is low at the moment and it has been like that for a while now... We saw good top 30 players reach GS finals (Pennetta, Pavlyuchenkova, Krejcikova..) not because they improved but just because they didn't have to face competition. Serena took advantage of that for years and she was dominating. When Henin, Clijsters and others were around, she was still winning slams but she couldn't dominate. Henin beat her in 3 different slams in 2007. This younger generation is nothing special. There is only Iga Swiatek who is a consistent and solid players. All the others could win a Slam or lose first round: Rybakina, Krejcikova, Raducanu...
It's just because of the near death experience that started creating embolism etc to her health. If Serena Williams could have just waited one year , she would have been having so many more grandslams

No. I love Serena but in her last six years on tour she only won one title, which was a small WTA250 title in Auckland. She really had nothing more to give.

I think she could've benefited massively from playing small tournaments to get some needed match play such as Charleston, Doha or Dubai, Birmingham, Stuttgart, Stanford ...etc instead of only participating in Slams without proper preparation.
