Great job Sean, now is there to wonder how many Charlotte’s are out there on this supercars and what costing the owners on this racket of firms capitalizing on ignorant drivers that are not experts on this procedures but just want to enjoy their vehicles …
Great video and very informative, Sean! You’ve been a great help through your free vids in helping me maintain my MP4-12C. I also appreciate what Kevin has done ✅ to help me service my car. McMedics and Supercar Garage are a tremendous asset to the McL community.
Dealers do this kind of crap because 9 times out of 10 they get away with it. Even on the 10th time, the worst that happens is they don't get the job. There needs to be some kind of punishable action that stops them freely scamming owners. I never take my car to any dealers any more, I do my own work (570S with 32k miles). I do have an oil leak at the rear of the engine that I need to track down, there was a lot of oil on my transmission when I had the floor pan off last time.
@@McMedics thanks for the heads up. My turbo oil lines were dry, seems to be coming from higher up on the engine. I didn’t have time to investigate when the floor was off, so I plan to give a good look over from above over the weekend, maybe using a bore scope.
Your lift looks very similar to mine, wonder if it would work for 650S. I'm reading C&D says 650S "rear track width" is 63". I assume that's the outer-to-outer rear tires distance, correct?
Not knocking ya or anything, but the V-module (oil cooler module) leaks at the two casting plugs by the oil filter not towards the front of the module. That oil build up by the rear engine cradle is likely from the vee module or a RMS and not the water pump gasket. Id be willing to bet a few pennies that there's oil going up the side of the transmission "bell housing" on the drivers side.
Oil would be somewhere on top of the engine, which there wasn't. I showed the bottom for why you mentioned. To be from anywhere above the water pump it would show above the water pump. The V module isn't leaking, they're scamming.

I can name a few of this same instance with varying items. Every time it's been a McLaren dealer.
Great Video! Thanks for taking the time to make these. It sucks that the dealers take advantage like this.
Thats why people get scared of mclarens, they get quoted thousands and thousands from the dealer on stuff that arent really a problem.
💯
How did I know you'd say Charlotte!

That's quite often a turbo O ring that got pinched going in.

Depending what color it is, could be the V module or could be the transmission vent
great video sean!
It would be cheaper to ship the car to you to work on it instead of using a McLaren dealer. WHere are you located by the way?
It's cheapest to send me to you, which I do weekly. You can send the car to me as well, I'm based out of South Carolina

Hm, now I'm thinking "rear track width" might be center-to-center.
Crud, C&D says my C8 is not as wide as the 650s, and my C8 will not fit on the lift, the lift is a shade too narrow.
Track is center of tire to center of tire. My 12C barely fits on the runways

Let me know if you are ever in the Maryland area. I could use some soft close door latches.
I've been in that area a few times this year. DC area of VA I know I need to get back to for a shock replacement.
Hey do you have a contact in Houston....there is a McLaren dealership here but id rather pay you guys as small business owners versus the dealership
The Houston guys tend to bring me their cars in Austin when I'm there.
Shawn I might be in the same situation😢
I can certainly check it out!
