Fascinating video. I am 64 years old and got my 1st introduction to Philippines, Thailand, Bali in 1998...I have a LOT of experience. I started basically b4 the internet took off. No cell phones or very limited texting phones not smart phones. I actually did not know what texting was until I went to the Philippines. So I was nearly 40 when I started and I was often the youngest person I saw in any of the sex tourist areas in any country. I'm surprised at how many younger guys are into that life today. I am happy to see this video where a guy says he has slowed into normal life, just in Thailand. Work comes 1st etc, normal girlfriend, no non stop partying. I think asia lures guys that dont do well with dating in the USA. I was not rich, not a pro athlete, not a movie star or music star, not handsome. In the USA i'm simply not attracting pretty 22 year olds. Suddenly I arrive in Manila or Bangkok and I am instantly transformed into John Travolta and suddenly have the power to pick up women. I started w bar girls but that got old fast as I just dont like that scene but soon realized i could flirt with girls who worked in malls or fast food. The years went by and I just became a confident person. But I saw so many guys like me, ordinary guys wwho now had this "new power" and just couldnt handle it. I ended up married to a gorgeous asian woman, who was in the same industry as I am. We live a wonderful life in the USA. She is prettier than I am, smarter, makes more money than I do and cooks amazing food. She takes care of me and doesnt cheat. Everyone says i am the lucky one. So if you just want to drink and fuck pretty girls, thats fine but I think that leaves you open to danger and you're missing a great opportunity to level the playing field. My wife is 20 years younger than I am and her American equivalent would never look at me much less marry me....good luck, be smart. Great video.

You're situation is exactly the reason why many guys overseas now days. The standards of dating in the west are made up of delusional women who only sleep around with the hottest, tallest, and riches men. Even in Thailand it's still the same but with lower standards because of their cost of living. Additionally, Asian women have a fetish for White guys. Even if they are broke, ugly, fat, or handicap. Yes, most of it is because they are looking for a sugar daddy.
I'm an Asian dude so when I go to Asian countries they don't look at me as a foreigner, just another local dude. The moment they see a different racial group their eye's start to wander in lust over them. lol Maybe they just know they are easy targets for money.

The best advice I got when I was in my first 2 weeks here was from an expat who had lived here 23 years by the time he was in his late 40's. He told me "You're an expat now. Stop acting like a tourist". He was actually speaking about tipping too much but that wisdom stuck with me. The temptations here can be a challenge to some guys. Married now so not hanging around bars and keep a healthy and active daily routine. Finally, if you have problems at home, loneliness, money, the drink etc., they will be worse here.

Tipping 20 baht as a flat rate is the standard..

    • @mikeyboy3054
      @mikeyboy3054 10 місяців тому +14

@KingBrew187 In Canada tipping has increased to the point that 18-20% is the norm in restaurants. The gentleman I spoke to back then said an 800 baht bill he tipped 20 baht. I tipped 200 baht on that bill. He told me guys like me made it hard on long term expats like him. I just let my wife handle the day to day payments at restaurants etc. Sometimes she doesn't tip.

I went to Bangkok and Pattaya a few times twenty years ago while separating from my then-wife. The trip saved my life, breaking the desire to return to her and be miserable. I stayed at a very nice hotel in Pattaya where my view was of the famous giant Buddha on the hill. During that stay in Bangkok and Pattaya, I had lovely bargirls and freelancers and took a long time, to dinner and two lovely Thai girls to a Thai dance show in a wonderful traditional Thai restaurant. I returned to New York, divorced my wife, and never looked back. I will return to Bangkok and Pattaya after twenty years in eight weeks to enjoy myself again and thank Thailand for saving my life twenty years ago.

I don’t go out that much and when I do people always say I haven’t seen you in a while. That’s because I stay away from the alcohol and girls as much as possible and just focus on peace which is way more important to me.

A as resident of pattaya of over 17 years.
Pattaya City is nothing like you have ever seen before.
Number 1 rule use your brain not you head below before making a decision with a thai lady.
Do not buy gold for them.
If your coming just to have fun with thai lady use the 3 day rule.
This means only stay with lady no longer than 3 days then change to new lady.
Bar ladies are professional at getting your money they will say they love you and make you feel like a king but after 3 days then they will start to tell you that moms is in hospital sick and needs money and 100 other stories do not believe that
3 day rule is number 1
      No longer
Also once you have taken lady from bar do not ho back after 3 time s or try to take am other lady from same bar.
There are thousands of dollars bars find new in different bar.
Most pattaya girls have many forienger customer's and will say they just come to pattaya first time but not true

I was fortunate enough to make a lot of money and I’m looking to live frugally in a country such as Thailand to not only experience a complete 360 but also live a healthy lifestyle.

Buy a condo in your name.
You can own a condo in your name and if you get in thai relationship do not pay monthly salary to lady

A LOT of good gems in this one. Honestly, if it wasn't for meetings with Americans late at night I would be up to all sorts lol Work has saved me here in Bangkok. My advice to people moving here is to move outside the city center so you're not so tempted. Many great areas like Udom Suk, Bang Na, Bang Kapi, Bang Sue, Talat Phlu and many others. Most YTers don't show you these areas but these areas are where the locals are and where you're more likely to meet regular girls. Not to mention some of the best food and bars. Honestly the sooner you realize Bangkok isn't just Asoke, Nana and Sukhumvit the better off you'll be lol

So true. If you are not retired, coming here to work is not like being in a Western country. I actually met an English guy in his 30's, he had like $30,000 and told me he was going to stay in Thailand the rest of his life. OMG. If you are not interested in getting married, it is so much easier, to control your spending and do what you want and be happy.
He met a bar girl, you know what comes next, only if you are stupid. He spent $20,000 to buy a girl (he just met) a house upcountry. Then he complained that living in a small village was boring. Plus a lot of the Brits seem to drink a lot, in my experience. They come from a "Pub Culture". All he seemed to do was go to every British Pub in Bangkok. Be smart, take care of yourself.

It wasn't so much the drinking and the Thai and farang people I met were nice, it was that the culture is so addictive! The 'Sabai, sabai' lifestyle and the genuine kindness of Thais got me hooked! Also, it was tough to manage socializing as you guys stated.
Everything you guys mentioned, I absolutely, 1000% agree and relate to! I was trying to settle but it proved to be tough. I think if I found a nice thai girl with a job, maybe that would have changed me.
You guys are doing it Right!!

It can definitely get expensive; people who haven’t done anything beyond 7eleven beers and street food can’t believe that a few drink and some nachos at Skybar at sunset for 2 can easily set you back over 7500 baht. Even without ‘professional companionship’ it can add up quickly.

When I went to Pattaya Beach Thailand back in 1992 as a mid 30's sailor from the USS Okinawa LPH-03, I didn't go into the fun bars too much with the dancing girls. (I did see some acts some of the bar girls did inside and it was unbelievable). I stayed at the hotels and made sure I didn't stay out late. I loved the hotels that we got and it was nice ones at the time. I kept it neat/clean and never got too wasted like so many young sailors did; they were the USS Okinawa LPH-03 sailors like me and we were on our last 2 months of our deployment. I seen too much debauchary and most of the silly drunkeness were mostly young sailors in their teens and early 20's. I was so ashamed when they were so drunk and demanded this/that from the locals when I walked by on the streets so many times in Pattaya beach. I went around like a behaved tourist and tried to see more of the locals than the fun nightlife. It was sort of similar to the Philippines but different religion they follow. It was a hot and humid climate and spent most of my afternoons sweaty and had a nice time there; sampling their local cuisine. I came out of it thinking of living but from these videos, I'm hearing attacks on single men from local Thai guys so I'm going to only visit places away from the fun bars when I plan to visit Thailand again in the mid 2020's as a mature man. Keep up with these videos.

I am down in Pattaya. Very true about temptations and so, so many guys destroy themselves financially, physically and emotionally with bars, girls and alcohol. You need to pull the reigns and live normally. Budget, exercise frequently, other hobbies. Keep away from those damned money sucking bars, avoid bar girls. I restrict to going out once a week at the most. It's hard as once you know people and socialise, there's always birthday parties and other invitations always going on. Plus friends from out of town.
Meeting a good girl here is close to impossible as even women in regular jobs end up befriending bargirls and other women cheating on guys with multiple sponsors. It's so normalized here to betray and cheat on farangs. 99% of women here in Pattaya are to be avoided. But there is a way to live a normal, budget based life here, with discipline. Many guys just cannot do it though.

    • @tyvid
      @tyvid 9 місяців тому

@@jetpark3743 believe it or not but you can have a relatively normal life here. It is one of the cheapest expat places to live in Thailand. Cheap rent. It has infrastructure such as many shopping malls, fitness centres, medical services, etc. It's on the beach so that's a plus. Night markets are great. Lots of restaurants and cheap eateries. Heaps of nice cafes. Temperature is less than Bangkok and pollution is much lower. The streets that are filled with bars are not the only thing going for this place. And only 1.5 hours from Bangkok airport/s.

Starting a business in Thailand is a very difficult prospect to be honest, only those who are the best at what they do survive. I am not talking about online workers. Best thing to do is learn Thai and try and integrate as much as you can. Also, if you are an online worker, you REALLLLLLY shouldn't be telling anyone, as you are liable to be deported because there is no way that with whatever visa you have, working remotely from Canada, that you are authorized to work in Thailand....Also, I recommend that you don't go "looking to make friends" that is usually a recipe for disaster, friendships will manifest themselves organically, don't try and force them, it never works out that way.

Your friend Marc gave very wise advice about not falling into the trap of the bar girl scene but instead find a nice girl working in a respectable job who provides good companionship. Heard and seen so many men experience financial and emotional distress due to delusional decisions related to a beautiful woman with an “ugly” heart and selfish motives. Men need to protect themselves from the allure of such “snakes”.

People are not so much chewed up and spat out. For quite a few deceades, they have been coming here and living like they are on vacation for many years, and run out of money. Then they compalin and talk as if they have been done wrong. Many buy homes in their "girlfriend's" name and lose it all. Many will open a businesses with the idea that they can earn near to their prior foreign income from customers earning Thai income or cheap retirees or cheap expats. It is often a very bad decision.
And limiting the number of friends is important, plus having friends who work here, not simply live here, is very important.
It is really best to have an income not related to Thailand.

I wonder how many people REALLY know Pattaya. They seem to identify Pattaya with the bars and think it's the only thing there is. At a 2 hour drive from Bangkok you have EVERYTHING you could wish for, also for families: the most beautiful beaches (no, not Central Pattaya beach but Wongamat, Asia Beach, Papa Beach, Bamboo Beach), a beautiful tropical island (Koh Larn), world-class attractions (Nong Nooch gardens, Sanctuary of Truth, the largest water parks in South East Asia), fantastic shopping paradises (Central Festival, Terminal 21), the most chic restaurants (Castello Di Bellagio, 3 Mermaids, The Sky Gallery), beautiful hotels with fantastic rooftops (Hilton, Siam Siam, the Space hotel) and so on. I have traveled ALL of Thailand from South to North and everything in between and of course find Krabi, Chiang Mai, Sukhotai etc... also very beautiful but nowhere else than in Pattaya you will find everything you could wish for (plus the best nightlife yes with mega discotheques such as The Hollywood, Insomnia, Myst...) in a limited area and so easily accessible if you have just landed in Suvarnabhumi. I've been coming there for 22 years and then you start to know it a bit, sorry.
